Worthless piece of S***!!!
20 January 2005
This is a movie about a guy trying to make a movie. His marriage has just ended so he comes up with the idea to make a movie about him dating 20 different girls. And if he's lucky, he gets to do his movie and find true love at the same time.

With this synopsis and Tia Carrere at the box cover, I figured "this movie could be OK". Trust me, it isn't!

Maybe I totally missed the point, but amongst a lot of pointless movies out there - this is the absolutely WORST movie I have EVER seen!!! I bought the DVD for 10 SEK (=$1.40) and I want my money back... enough said.

This film is about the relationship between two boys growing up together in a small town in the north of Sweden. Their nickname for the town is "Vittula" (roughly translated: The P*ssy fields).

The movie contains violence, sex, nudity and rough language without having any of those ingredients taking away focus from the actual story. In my opinion, it's also rare for a movie to successfully combine comedy and drama. Here the two parts are well balanced and will give you both laughter and sadness.

However, the movie have two weak spots.

1. Since I haven't read the book, I found myself filling in blanks in the story. It isn't always clear what event follows another. Sometimes it's almost like a highlight reel of events taking place in no specific order. Maybe this is how the director intended it to be or maybe how the book is written, but this was kind of annoying for me.

2. Some actors change their accent from scene to scene, which of course take away a lot of credibility from their character. If an actor can't fake a typical northern accent of Swedish for the full lenght of the movie, it would be better if they just stick with their natural accent.

Most people I have spoken to seems to have enjoyed this movie in one way or another, maybe because the story is set so close to home and feels somewhat familiar. (I hope that this movie will be appreciated by people in Finland and in the southern parts of Sweden as well.)

Cast and crew worth to mention are: Director Reza Bagher for taking the initiative to start this project which turned out to be a nice movie (even though some of the scenes don't fit especially well into the storyline, as I mentioned before). Actors Jarmo Mäkinen, Björn Kjellman and Lennart Jähkel for great acting performances.

I rate this movie 6/10.

The Village (2004)

No surprise - SPOILERS
20 September 2004
Warning: Spoilers
If the movie would have been directed by anyone but M Night, perhaps the movie would have had a completely different impact on me. Since I saw the great "Sixth Sense" for the first time I haven't seen another movie that have fooled me in the same way it did. M Night Shyamalans other films (Unbreakable, Signs) were trash! It seems to me that he tries to use the same kind of twists and turn in every movie he does.

When I saw the trailer for "The Village" I suspected that the twist would be that they are living in present time but hoped that M Night had something up his sleeve that could fool me as he did in "Sixth Sense". But unfortunately "The Village" failed to deliver something new. Still, I rate this movie 6/10 thanks to great acting performances by Phoenix and Howard along with nice camera-work.

Finland - The land of melancholy...

A nice little movie about relationships.

Good actor performances except for Eva Röse. Her character comes out totally without depth. She looks nice though, but the movie benefits from the fact that she's not appearing in too many scenes.

If you want to see something that totally deviate from the Hollywood Plastic-Fantastic formula, this movie gives a fairly accurate picture of life in Finland. Worth taking the time to see it...

The Evil Dead (1981)
10/10
It's all about the gloom and doom.
21 March 2003
The plot itself for Evil Dead is not very good. It's kind of bad actually. I believe that if anyone today tried to do a remake, it would even surpass the awful 'Psycho'-remake from 1998 on the list of pathetic movies.

What makes Evil Dead one of the best horrorfilms ever, is the way it's presented. It has the same kind of feeling you get when you listen to the early 70's Black Sabbath. Very, very doomy and gloomy.

I'm not a big fan of the "Zombie" genre. Evil Dead is a great movie, but 90% of similar movies really sucks. It's a thin line between success and failure.
