Lawmen: Bass Reeves (2023)
Too slow dragging. They should have made a movie instead
I love a good western with character build and story. I love the idea of a black marshall. The actors in this series all play well and the scenery is great and decent traditional filmed. The only problem, like with so many tv (mini)series is that there is just not enough story to tell for a mini-series. And that is why this mini-series goes to wast. It starts promisiing but with each episode and minute ticking away it gets slower and slower to the point it is just dragging on to get the time by. In addition the makers create strange time jumps and not telling some parts where there could have been a (character building) story. My guess is that the writing is just poor. Such a wast of money and talent. If it only was cut down to the essentials and a quicker pase. But then it would have had the length of a normal movie and nobody makes money then right?
Shrinking (2023)
Fresh new different and incredible funny
What a great great new series. It is all talk but the well played characters are absolutely great. Great writing and so well played. It is not often something fresh and good comes out these days. I had never heard of Jessica Williams before this but this woman is incredible funny. Her timing is so freaking perfect. I have to say all characters, even Harrison Fords, are all so perfect for the situation. They all unmatched each other so well. In a way it almost feels like the vibe you get from the series: Friends. All characters are strong but different personalities and somehow they become friends. Together they make this series really great. I cannot wait for the next season. I already watched series 1 three times.
Silo (2023)
Anothe poor attempt to recreate Logan's run
What is wrong with the creators these days. Is it so hard to write something new or fresh? Is it that the companies only believe in old successful stuff? This series is a stupid slow and very boring attempt to make another Logan's Run story. The Island was already one but in a better direction. This is just plane going nowhere and it is so slow and dragging. I am sure the writers busted their heads to drag this longer then they could think of. They could not even find enough new stuff to make it at least going on. The only tool thy had was slowing everything down. Logan's run was great and still is and that is from 1971. Can you imagine that a movie from 1971 feels faster then this Silo series.?
Rabbit Hole (2023)
A good thriller or suspence does not arise from keep telling us nothing
The series is so freaking boring and cheap. It just is made of strange events that tells the viewer nothing nad just hopes we keep looking because nothing gets in a direction and only more questions are pushed in. It all makes no sense but it is done in a way every highschool student can write this. There is no thin line. It is blatent telling nothing and only trying to keep uthe viewer in with a clifhanger to more unclear mystery. What a waste of time. Most stupid build up of a tv series in the last decade. The acting is good but another absolute cheap trick is the flashbacks to the main character its youth in which, again, nothing is told logically. Only more lose ends and questions. It is going nowhere and I am sure suddenly things are given away to fill us in. No logic, no good story, just keep the viewer in the dark and hope he/she is so curious he/she wants to stick on. Well I won't. After three episodes of the same crap I ended it.
No Hard Feelings (2023)
Great actors, bad flow, not representative trailer
The film is really not good enough to have great actors like Jennifer Lawrence, Andrew Barth Feldman and Matthew Broderick in it. The acting by everyone in the movie is good but really nothing special. But that has nothing to do with the actors capabilities. I blame their agents for letting them participate in this film. The movie starts promising and funny like the trailer showed us. The turn from shy withholding to confident happy was totally wrong and to short cut and that was the first thing that went wrong in the movie. Then it slowly turned into a totally predictable drama with less and less comedy. Sometimes it drags and then it cuts short. Like the director or screenplay writer was drunk while he/she created the film. The whole flow of the movie is off and the photography is also just safe textbook. Not cinematography prices to win here. The movie gets worse while it goes and it never recovers. Really the only good choice was to not put Jennifer nudity at a love scene. The only amazing thing in the movie was the man-eater piano scene This scene was of another level. I just cannot understand why this movie was such a mess with such talents on board.
Snowpiercer: Setting Itself Right (2022)
Too much depending on a new cliff hanger
While this episode was better then previous episode disaster, it still was boring and stretching. They just invented a new dilemma and a way to get through it. Clearly another case of writers have no clue what to do to stretch this series. But what I hated most is trying to hook the viewers by giving a huge cliff hanger at the end. You can only use the cliff hanger card a few times before I ditch the whole series. Season 1 and 2 were good but now it is gets to stretching to get the money in. No tv-series or movie without good story lasts. No matter how much snow and ice you put into it.
The Nevers (2021)
Slow, boring, failing to built atmosphere because of wrong pace
I had so much hope for this tv series. The scenery and images are beautiful but even on that part it is not "The alienist". But from the start you have to drag yourself through an atmosphere build up that takes way way too long. Nothing happens and not much is told other then what the era is. Then snippets of totally not place-able conversations start of which the one between two guys in the morning is so boring I almost switched off there. There suddenly is some action but before you know it, everything is back to long long boring conversations. At some new boring long point my wife and I looked at each other and we saw in our eyes that we could not bare any longer. Man even "The Remains of the day" from 1993 had a faster pace and better connection. Maybe this series appeals to real old people who doze off constantly?
Promise (2021)
Bad script, bad acting, bad paste
The movie is a genuine B movie of the worst kind. The script and the acting is so bad, it is impossible to watch. The slow speaking and slow paste is unbelievable and utterly causing boredom. This has nothing to do with a movie. Even as a todays standard school project it would not be acceptable. It is like there was nobody in the team criticizing during the process. Did investors commit suicide after seeing it?
Maryland (2015)
Unwatchable due to shaking camera
There is kewl acting or tough guy acting and there is flat emotionless acting. Matthias Schoenaerts does not work for me. I simply do not believe him. But the reason I had to stop the movie within 15 minuten is the overuse of camera shaking. This so called: "documentary style" filming is an insult to news and documentary camera men who can prevent their camera's from shaking much better then this. It seemed the camera people in this movie were drunk all the time. If shaking camera is needed to give a movie more action then you you know you made a bad movie. Unwatchable.
Ozark (2017)
I wanted to like it because I like the characters Jason Bateman usually plays
I stopped after getting too bored in the middle of episode 7 of the first season. The pilt episode was promising but it got bored and slow after that rather quickly. I really wanted to love this series becasue I like the charcters Jason Bateman usually plays. I tried but the feeling of forced too many storylines with not really anything happening and no likeable characters made me lose interest somewhere in the fifth episode. I forced myself to keep watching and hoping but hafl way episode 7 of the first season I gave up. Sorry Jason, better luck next time
Gone Are the Days (2018)
Another unwatchable shaking camera movie
The story is slow but ok. Non typical western and good acting. Still I never finished the film as for me the shaking camera effect can't keep me in the film. A good filmmaker would not need this extra "trick" to get the movie more interesting or wake up any emotion. Maybe it was done to get people sleeping woke up again. For me the shaking camera trick brings only irritation towards the director.
Battle: Los Angeles (2011)
Terrible shaking camera
The story is very promising and I was so happy when I finally found the time to watch the movie. I am a fan of actor Aaron Eckhart. I am so sorry I could not watch the complete movie. If one cannot get enough interesting acting, texts or action in a movie, the remedy these days is shake the cam even more at even worse appropriate moments. This movie is, to my modest opinion, an example of this. The worst camera using of 2011. I hope Jonathan Liebesman notices the widespread critics about misusing the "shaking camera" effect before he does his next movie. Maybe actors should also be held responsible for agreeing the usage of unneeded camera movements but then again I could no longer be an Aaron Eckhart fan so I am not too sure about this :)
Ulvepigen Tinke (2002)
Amazing great movie
The last few years I try to watch more European movies. Usually they are no match and I still think the U.S.A. makes the best movies. (I am from The Netherlands Europe) However, once in a while a little pearl surfaces and this movie struck me full. Incredible touching acting by this little girl who struck me at first site and hold me in, during the complete movie. The story, cinematography, rhythm and great acting by the other characters did the rest. A lot of the story comes over without the need of text. It is all so natural, one really forgets watching a peace from the past. I even sometimes forgot to read the subtitles even though I can't understand a word Danish. I understood without understanding the language. If one likes strong character little big movies without tricks, this is one not to miss. Thank you Morten Køhlert, Bo Tengberg, editors, actors and the rest of the team, for this peace of art.
