The Woodsman (2004)
Interesting approach
This movie does a very nice job of portraying the development of Walter, the paedophiliac protagonist who is on parole after 12 years of prison for molesting little girls. I especially like how he is disgusted by his own feelings, and struggles to shake them off. I would have liked to see more of his further progression (if it took part). For example, I kind of hoped to see some more "heroic" acts which proof his improvement (like beating up 'Candy'), especially regarding his relationship with Robin, and also with his sister. "It takes time", like his therapist said, but I didn't find the plot to thick anyway, so I think it wouldn't have hurt to show some more in this direction. It's quite possible though that this would have taken some of the film's mystery.
7 out of 10 for the open ending and the rather small amount of story. Definitely worth watching.
Die Scheinheiligen (2001)
Bavarian intrigues - like seen in real life :)
Well, I think it would be more appropriate if I'd write in German, but after all, this is an English site, so... :)
I watched this movie yesterday night, and I had very much fun doing so. Though it's starring only unknown actors (most of them only played in this very movie - exception is of course Maria Singer as Magdalena Trenner), they seem like made for this role. You could think they play themselves in a film that is just a cut out copy of real life :)
The movie is called "Die Scheinheiligen" - "The Hypocrites"; and that's exactly like those people are: hypocritical.
The mayor with his "bigger plan" for the city (which stands above all). The policemen with their certain "asshole on duty" behaviour. The vicar with his "be Christly and do what I say" way of life. And so on, just see for yourself! I really have troubles expressing what I think about this movie. It's just the disgust about the "bad guys" and at the same time the laughter about the way the "good guys" through them a club in the way, that's what makes one enjoy this movie so much. A MUST for Bavarians, for all others still very recommended!
