This movie is awful
10 April 2006
I really liked Benigni in all Jim Jarmusch movies, and i am a great fan of Tom Waits. But this movie just sucks! Its the same story Benigni is telling in all of his movies, just in another place and time. This time it is set in Iraq, during the invasion of the US, i still wonder which sick mind thought of that kind of crap. The movie is so totally predictable, its not even fun trying to guess whats gonna happen, cause its too easy. What cannot be missed in an Italian movie is of course a lot of advertisement by Fiat, but also by IKEA and Nokia - this gets kinda annoying. Benigni keeps making his average jokes, which you just cannot bare anymore after you have seen him in a few of his movies, and in this one you will be bored of it after about 10 minutes. His wife once again shows, that she is all but a good actress, Benigni really should stop casting her for his movies. I'm not in generally hating lovestorys, this one just is so cheesy, crappily developed and weird in a very boring way. Don't WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS!

Berlin Blues (2003)

extremely crappy movie
13 March 2006
I totally don't see why people would like this movie, or give it good votes. The acting is extremely poor, the storyline is very boring, and even though the director "tried" to put the movie to a higher level, by putting in some weird scenes, he just makes it all chaotic and totally annoying.

Except for Detlev Buck, who is doing OK IMHO, every single person in this movie seems to never have attended acting classes. The actors are so crap that it is really starting to annoy right when the movie starts.

The movie is also full of surreptitious advertising made by Becks. Without counting it i would guess there are about 50 Beck's bottles shown in the movie, often with the camera on those bottles instead of the actors.

I voted 2/10, giving credit to some ideas which might have been nice, if they were executed properly.

This movies sucks bigtime
14 April 2004
Extremely boring, no innovations, german moviemakers obviously are just as bad as hollywood ones! They just proofed, that everyone is able to produce a cheap movie with a standard plot that has been filmed thousands of times. The only reason for me rating this movie "2" instead of "1" is some stupid, permanently stoned guy who really made me laugh once. They really just took the worst actors from the cheapest TV-soaps and put them alltogether, the outcome was as bad as expected. This was definitely the last time, i went to the cinema, without knowing which movie is going to be shown.

quite a strange but not bad one

Well it starts like a typical Hollywood teen movie located in a typical university. But it soon gets quite weird and tragical, and i liked the cuts, the backshifts in time and the sickness of our society, that is quite well shown by this movie. I was very positively surprised by James Van der Beek as Sean Bateman, I can't tell if he is a good actor or not by just one movie, but he really fits into his role and plays it superb.
