Worth Watching!
18 January 2006
Propaganda? Yes. Some preposterous scenes? Yes. Entertaining? Very. Think "Hogan's Heros", with a Keystone Kops chase scene.

It is easy to imagine folks in theaters in 1942 cheering loudly as the GIs outwit the thick headed Germans in one escapade after another. Just when it appears they have escaped capture, they are surrounded by the enemy again, with no apparent chance to escape this time.

It is easy to find fault with many films, and this one is no exception. However, imperfect films can still be very entertaining if we allow them to be!

Not currently out on VHS or DVD - but look for it on Turner Classics.

An Early Astaire Classic!
16 November 2003
This was a great entertaining musical film - not meant to be taken seriously for sure, but just plain entertainment! I can't understand anyone voting this film a "1" or "2" -- but everyone is entitled to their opinion!

In my case, anytime a movie has a small airplane carrying a piano in the cockpit, and bathing beauties dancing on the wings, I know I've found a winner!

This movie actually had Fred and Ginger cast in supporting roles, but their magic caught on and they received top billing in all their next appearances together.

This and other Astaire films are now out on DVD, as well as appearing from time to time on Turner Classics. Also check out "Top Hat", "Swingtime", Gay Divorcé".

Absolutely Fabulous (1992–2012)
Ab Fab is Ab Fab, Sweetie

This series appeals to old & young, male & female, gay & straight -- each episode needs to be watched several times (at least by me) to get all the hilarious bits of business. There was a "New York" episode on Comedy Central a month or so back, not sure if it was a special or season 5?? Anyway, any episode is sure to please....

Great Action Romantic Adventure

OK, so it's not Academy Award material -- but I found this film to be very enjoyable to watch -- sort of a throwback to the swashbuckling days of old Hollywood. Also has a great John Barry score, and Robert Morley is priceless in this film. If you can enjoy a movie for what it is, without looking around every propeller for nits to pick, give this one a look.

Shirley Maclaine Is Perfect For This Film
1 April 2003
Great Sets, choreography, music, cast. "If They Could See Me Now" is worth the price of admission. "I'm A Brass Band" is also a highlight. Somewhat depressing story line makes this a happy/unhappy experience. But if you haven't seen it, give it a whirl. I hear the DVD has an alternate ending, which may be a good idea!
