The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let's Do the Time Warp Again (2016)
Sort of what I expected...
Let me begin by saying that I have been a huge Rocky Horror fan (The play, the film and it's related projects) for many years. When I first heard about this project, I decided to go into it with an open mind.
It was not, nor will it ever be even close to what the original was. It is campy but it feels cheap. Not in a good way. The cuts to the audience participation were awkward and random. Casting needed some major reconsideration. I did not go into watching this as a fan of Ms. Cox's. She actually surprised me and did pretty well. All in all, stick to the original.
What I liked: Ivy Levan as the Usherette Christina Milian as Magenta Victoria Justice as Janet The costuming. The actors using their own vocal styles (it should not be like they are impersonating the original actors, they are playing the characters). The Grace Jones feel to Ms. Cox's look.
What I did not like: Lavern Cox's attempt at using a British accent very randomly in certain phrases and songs. The cuts to audience participation. Lack of cameos. The mainstream "feel". RH is and should be anything except mainstream. The casting, not including the ones I liked above, needed a lot more consideration.
Slash Dance (1989)
Slash Dance 80's Horror/Camp Fun!
I watched this film as a child originally. It was one of many films that created my interest in bad horror/comedy movies. I recently re-watched it because I realized that several of the ladies from GLOW (Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling) starred and were featured. America from GLOW is in the lead role with supporting roles by GLOW Characters Matilda The Hun and Beastie. Do not expect a regular cheap horror movie with this one. It was made to be a combination horror/comedy film and is purposely campy.
