Mr Inbetween (2018)
So much unhappiness
Something is wrong. Of course, it is. We have become accustomed to meaningless violence. Ray, the main character, is a broken human being. The "catch" in this show that attempts to make it interesting is that he also has people in his life, like the little girl, that he treats well and with consideration, while acting like a sociopath with others.
Is this a good script? No. Good acting? Hmmm? No. What does a show like this do for any of us? It leaves a person feeling unwell. So much unhappiness bought to us trying to be darkly creative. Our societies need something that is not this type of show.
Darby and the Dead (2022)
Deadly insightful fun!
I was delighted with this movie. Whereas it could have been silly and trite, it came across with believable insight and heart. Riele Downs did a terrific job acting the lead female role. She is lovely and pulled off this "Ghost Whisperer" like character with ease. One could ask what the target audience for "Darby and the Dead" would be. Well, I am in my seventies and found this movie interesting, charming, comedic and with a touch of romance. How is it possible for a Daniel Craig, Liam Neeson, Jason Statham fan to enjoy a light teen movie? No one is shot. No car chases. No sex. Well, it is well written deadly insightful fun!
Love, Death & Robots (2019)
Gratuitous violence and sex
If a person were like a male teen, without a moral code, without appreciation for true values, having social adjustment issues, then maybe comments about how well the animation is done are understandable, because the rest of it was so pitiful and dark that it overwhelms any attempt at art here. The medium was well done. The content was so vapid that a rating of 2 was hardly justifiable.
Free Guy (2021)
Free Man and the Avatar
What is behind what appears to be? That which is apparent is only apparent in appearance. That which enlivens lives on and on and on. The forms of manifestation appear and disappear, apparently changing, while the timeless One behind this all is always the same One, knowing all and loving all. What is an individual? What is life? Repetition of the the ancient question that began it all. Who awakens one to the finding the answer, maybe even gradually. The Awakener.
Love Hard (2021)
Surprise! It's fun!
Just relax. Lovehard/Die Hard. Let go and enjoy this delightful, silly, fun movie. The characters are unexpected in their roles, and "love actually" happens in this romantic, punny story.

IT WAS SO GOOD
What could have been so bad, was so good!
Franco was amazing, making me believe his character was real. Sarah Gadon, my gosh, so beautiful and convincing in this role, providing a wonderful counterbalance to Franco. The final episode was more than could have been anticipated. Often, writers must find it so difficult to bring a tense, dramatic story to a close. Here, it was done beautifully. What could have been so bad, was so good!
Westworld (2016)
That which sustains all
Something may have clever, well crafted , creative, imaginative parts with famous actors, yet fail because that which inspires and sustains all is absent.
Westworld, first season, lacks what is most important.
The Midnight Sky (2020)
the journey, the awakening
"thus, though he begins by seeking something utterly new, he really arrives at a new understanding of something ancient. The spiritual journey does not consist of arriving at a new destination where a person gains what he did not have or becomes what he was not. It consists of the dissipation of his ignorance concerning himself and life, and the gradual growth of that understanding that begins with spiritual awakening. The finding of God is a coming to one's own Self." Meher Baba
This movie is a well done portrayal of a part of the greater drama, the unfolding of the Divine Game. Aloneness, interconnectedness, love. The temporariness of what we cling to, yet the ongoing stream of life towards what appears to be an unknown goal.
Extraction (2020)
Unbelievably low class, sorry, bad
Come on folks, really?
This is so bad, it does not deserve a review.
