Gretel & Hansel (2020)
Brilliant and beautiful
I'm unsure of why everyone seems to dislike it so much. I went in with a solid knowledge of the old fairytale, and came out loving the version so much more. This movie is visually one of the most stunning things I have ever seen, and it is full of great dialogue as well. It's moderately scary, not terrifying or anything. I loved it and will probably end up seeing it again before it leaves theatres.
BoJack Horseman: Escape from L.A. (2015)
Crazy, depressing, and genius
Without a doubt, this is the best episode of Bojack Horseman yet. This is the episode that will shock the audience, and this is the episode that drives home some of the worst parts of Bojack. It shows his bad side, his vulnerable side, and what one can only assume is his rock bottom.
Of course, like any other episode, there are some very funny parts. Like usual, there are some great, smart jokes. It is also visually beautiful, which isn't rare in this show but it's always appreciated. This is also a great emotional episode, as it shows many of Bojack's problems and deep emotions before the big, bad moment even happens.
BoJack Horseman (2014)
Hilarious, reflective, deep, and dark
When I started watching Bojack Horseman on Netflix, I assumed it was just going to be another silly cartoon with no real purpose beyond a few laughs, a distraction from real life for half an hour at a time... I was wrong!
This is a rare show, something that you watch because you're bored one night, but you end up binge watching it all in a week. And you're hooked, and you rewatch it, because there's always a joke that you missed, a funny detail, or an easter egg.
This show is incredibly deep, and it achieves this in an interesting way, by using animals. It can touch on sad, painful parts of life, ways of living, and emotions, because viewers don't have to watch a human go through all of this. However, these animal characters are very relatable. You start the show emotionally detached, laughing at the funny animals, but by the end of the second season, you've already related to most (if not all) of the characters on a deep level at least once.
Sure, the events that take place in the show are often crazy and impossible. But the underlying ideas remain logical and realistic, and that's what's so beautiful about this show. You watch it, enjoy the insanity and the humour, but then you start to understand exactly what is going on. This show makes you think, but it doesn't slap you in the face with the ideas, it lets you figure it out by yourself.
I wish I had something bad to say about it, but I really don't. I wish that Netflix in general didn't drop a bunch of episodes once a year, because I have no self control so I binge watch for a week and have to wait a year for a new season... But that's my fault.
This show has some moments that are hard to watch, but that's why it's deep and emotional. These moments may shock you, but that's why this show is so smart. You watch these characters do crazy things, and struggle with emotions, but it's all real. The underlying points are always true, and the show may shock some truth into you.
Over all, Bojack Horseman is hilarious, interesting, emotional, and smart. I can't wait until the next season comes out! If I had to make a list of 3 shows I'd recommend that everyone watches, this would be on it. Parks and Rec would also be on that list, because I see a lot of similarities, as they're both funny but have realistic emotional points to make.
Fugget About It (2012)
Fugget About It: Surprisingly Funny
Fugget About It is actually very funny, which is quite a surprise. I've been watching it since it premièred and it has successfully entertained me. It tells a story well and has quite a few very funny moments in every episode.
It basically just shows the humour of living in Canada, being from an extravagant family, and so on.
Of course, the humour is very Canadian, so if you're not from Canada you may not enjoy it as much as a Canadian would. Some of the humour is very specific, such as when they make fun of Toronto.
Definitely worth watching, sit through at least one episode because in the end you'll probably like it.
