Mugabe and the White African (2009)
A feeling of great sadness.
I always hold dear the memories of visiting my grandparents as a child and taking early morning walks through the Great Zimbabwe Ruins, it was majestic to say the least. To see the state Zimbabwe is in today is so sad considering it used to be such a great country.
This documentary did a fantastic job of creating awareness, the real truths behind the (m)ugabe regime. You cannot help feel a deep sadness for the individuals' involved, especially noting that children are the also the victims of this outrageous regime.
A realisation that a brain washed/racist state is the order of the day, every day in Zimbabwe. The White Farmers are providing for 100's of workers livelihoods and they're the bad guys. The whole concept on which Mugabe bases his Dictatorship is one big Contradiction. As they say, every dog has its day.
Valhalla Rising (2009)
An earthly experience.
I have to say I was very impressed by this film. Let it be said that this is not everyone's cup of tea, especially not if your in to the fast paced action packed type film, however, if you're looking for something visually appealing and strangely captivating, this is the film for you.
Its so barbaric and real, and different in its approach. This film is testament to those who create film to harness 'to-the-core' story telling. It takes you on a journey of man and in the end makes you contemplate the very essence of our being.
The attention to detail in every shot is phenomenal, be patient with this film, it really is a work of art.
Three words: Brutal/Dark/Detail.
8/10.
Su Qi-er (2010)
Absolutely Superb!
I found this to be one of the most entertaining films I've seen in a long time. I loved the whole concept of the film, it was booming with creativity and not to mention the fight sequences were bloody brilliant.
The story line is actually very consuming once you become endeared by the characters, whom I might add are supremely crafted. I mean how can you not think the 'God of Wushu' is not cool.
As a fan of the genre, I really rate this film up there with the best of them. It certainly deserves more attention, which I hope it gets.
10/10.
