Faith Like Potatoes (2006)
From a "movie" perspective
I have no doubt that Faith Like Potatoes changed many lives in South Africa (I would like to believe for the good). From a (Christian) spiritual perspective, the movie was a huge success. The intention of the movie was to change lives and I think it greatly achieved that. My Vote for Value: 10/10
However, it is still a movie. And there I give it a 4/10. I was not impressed with the screenplay. 1) It was too long. I would completely cut the part where the boy was killed. Yes, it was a major event in the character's lives, but it killed the movie.
2) There were many senseless scenes. For example, in one scene Angus' wife was sitting at night, painting. They had the perfect suspense- building scene. She heard a sound. A savage? Murderer? No! One of the farm workers just came to tell her that her husband's a good man. No sense in having that scene.
Acting was mediocre to very bad, not convincing.
Shutter Island (2010)
I believed him all the way.
Up to the end I was waiting for the "real truth" to be revealed. I knew there was something fishy about the island - the head of the island was definitely a bad guy - it was obvious. And when the real Rachel was revealed I was disgusted at how horrible the people in charge of the island was. And then the end happened. I was waiting for the real truth to be revealed. I was shocked and disoriented when I learned that MY truth was not THE truth. I was angry. I wanted to cry out: "This is dumbest movie I've ever seen!". But then I realized - they succeeded in making me experience all the emotions Teddy experienced in the movie. I did not have sympathy with the main character, I "was" the main character.
I am not qualified to judge the technical aspects, but I loved the story, the screenplay and the acting was incredible.
