Black Sunday (1977)
Superb Filming
Yes this was a great story, but the way this movie was filmed is remarkable. You'll never see a film made today where the actors were filmed in the middle of the biggest game of the year The Super Bowl. And filming real teams and real players. You have to look into the director's work and what he accomplished to get the movie done. The 70's was a time where you could get close to the players and the stars without the annoying security of police and secret service we are inconvenienced by today. Post 911 will never allow a director to get away with making a movie like this ever again. I would like nothing more than to see a sequel but that's impossible since the teams would fictitious along with penned names. My father in law Jack Adams worked for Wilson Sporting Goods back in this era and walked directly in to the 1972 undefeated Miami Dolphins locker room unscathed where every player including Bob Griese himself signed a football for him.
Bailout: The Age of Greed (2013)
Best was saved for last
Basic every day life for Americans through 2007 to 2010 economic times. I'm upset with what the star did in the film in the same manner anyone can. We just don't cross that line. To get off track...here...listen; I know folks out there beating the system who live out of their cars and working full time. There are ways around this system of renting apartments or paying mortgages. You can live out of your car rent free which is a 90% savings. Killing stock brokers and bankers is not the answer. If everyone finds a way to avoid rent and using a 24 hour gym membership to shower and shave we can end that rich get richer poor get poorer thing. Watch this movie with a closed mind.
Now You See Me (2013)
So good I can see a part 3
The story is fantastic. The actors were perfect for their roles. The framing was a little too much; meaning vengeance could have been played out differently. I really dig the love scene towards the end; never thought they'd hit it off. Part 2 should be a good one too. I can't wait to see if Danny boy gets it on with magic hottie. Is it possible for Lionel to fake his death for part 2? The chemistry is so smooth that I even see a part 3 that could work. Here's a little magic for the future tip: Abbra Cadabbera (spell check) you keep making great films I keep buying great tickets! Is there really a place in Paris where you can go to lock away secrets? If so I have to go. ......I'm ready for the next trick...........1...........2..........
The Ghost Writer (2010)
Bad weather
I've thoroughly enjoyed the film. The quality was not so great. Could use some color----why was the weather so nasty? This was just a basic film about a writer hired to help a British Prime Minister publish a book. Unfortunately, trouble aroused in the midst of things resulting in tragedy for both men. The wimpy, but down-to-earth ghostwriter seemed to never be able to pull himself out of trouble; from sleeping with married women, ticking off the wrong kind of people and to not keeping his damn mouth shut. He shouldn't of got what was coming to him. Poor guy. The architecture in this film was phenomenal, although the house was not real the oil paintings of abstract were wonderful; not to mention the furniture. The landscaping was atrocious; terrible for a beach house in Massachusetts. I think Adam Lang worked out a lot to find time away from his dangerous spouse. I doubt the book would have become a best seller if it wasn't for the best story of all----the lunatic sniper who went berserk over his son dying at war. The film was an original though. There's been nothing really like it and the actors shown were the perfect choice. I would have liked to see more of the two icon actors from the beginning. No sequel...I doubt the bad guys in the film will ever be caught.
Assassins (1995)
Sneaky, eerie, and heartless
This is the film you hit the theatre watching and go home asking yourself one question: What if? The movie completely casts an aurora of non-fiction techniques that any top Navy Seal or Special forces recruit can pull off. Everything in this film is possible. Only one part in the beginning; after the police apprehend their suspect they'd have him in the squad car for hours until they complete their graveyard murder investigation----witnesses would be brought over to the police car to positively I.D. the suspect. And assassins are psychopathic. They never change. So no, the one assassin would never go from high-paid contract killer to choir boy. There should be a sequel to this film too. I love these assassin movies; like Michael Mann's Collateral. I want more!
Jack the Giant Slayer (2013)
Jack and the Beanstalk modern classic
I can't think of a better story for modern times to bring back one of my favorite childhood stories to television. This film is phenomenal. I can't get over the quality and realism the director crafted into this masterpiece. The story is so unique; yet sticking to the original classic. Some scenes had me hiding under my sheets. Sometimes made me say, "ewwwww!" But nothing too far overboard. Plenty of giants, plenty of action and more---- it just gets better as it goes. I lost track of how many times I've watched it. Now, at 43 I feel like I did when I was 7. That should confirm that this movie is sensational. ...to the creators of this film...Thank you!
White House Down (2013)
Bummer!
This film could have been better. Why did Jamie Fox's role reflect off our current president? Why not be different and have the president in this film be a female? White House tours ended way over a decade ago. And if my cell phone fails to get a signal in the casino I bet anything I would not be able to use it in the White House. Can we watch a movie without being reminded about racism? One of the terrorists shot up a post office for hiring too many African Americans? Should have called the film White Supremacy at 1600. The news media would never release a hostage's information on live television and risk losing millions on wrongful death suits. A lot of common sense made most of the scenes look ridiculous. The interior of the White House was right on cue. And finally, fighter jets drop those bombs from so high up that no anti - bomb protesters would be seen waving flags. Perfect film for viewers under 13.
Breakfast on Pluto (2005)
Irish talent at its finest
I can't recall a film with more extreme acting than this one. Murphy is an extraordinary actor. Johnny Depp is said to maybe one day prove to be the best diversified actor of all time by taking on the character of Michael Jackson, but after seeing Murphy on film these two guys leave me in question. Although I'm irish myself, I have to go with my irish boy Cillian Murphy to take the cake. Johnny from my home town of Broward County, Florida is a nearby icon. But...There is always a butt...Red Eye was a nail biting thriller. Breakfast on Pluto was a skirt lifting blower. I know that Murphy lives a simple life, but I hope there are no plans for him to retire quite yet. I must see more.
Iron Man Three (2013)
Fantastic.
I was an extra in this film. They shot for two days in Dania Beach, Florida. Unfortunately I don't recall a second of it used in the movie. It was raining hard all day long and with free lunch and an arm's reach away from the stars I can't complain. I love the movie. Shane Black formulated a billion dollar box office smash. I hear there will not be a part four because the Avengers will be taking over. I would like to see more work from Mr. Black. I kind of wish the film came out in 3D. The Air Force 1 scene was a classic. Perhaps Mr. Black could also surprise us with another comic book hero in the future with even more compact action.
Collateral (2004)
Sequel?
Michael Mann never fails when it comes to action films. The quality of this film is phenomenal. The palm trees seen perfectly in the dark night. The film earned enough collateral for a sequel. There were unnatural scenes where the cab driver had plenty of opportunities to escape. Vincent had a brilliant disguise. And Max was a smooth pay check to pay check...underpaid American with a dream like all of us have...to better ourselves which we mostly all fail to achieve. His limo business would likely fail, felt he was too poor for the hot black girl that likes him, motivation, etc. Jason from the beginning would be great in a sequel. Who was he? What's his story? He bumps into Vincent handing him a briefcase full of goodies...sequel, please.
The Hunter (2011)
Brokeback Mountain again
No..., not a love story but rather a nature story. Brokeback Mountain holds the best nature filming by far. I wasn't interested in neither story but I love the nature scenes of both these films. The story could have been different like a hunter following a lost friend's will to find this extinct animal and perhaps ending the film with photography evidence. Killing something doesn't work. The film could have used a little more action. Did the hunter kill seals, polar bears or any type of marine animals? Always think of a possible sequel to a story; therefore you'll have a great film to begin with. Has the hunter ever killed a man before? He seems to have no regret for killing his hostage taker. The end seems like the hunter tossed in the towel on hunting.
The A-Team (2010)
Remarkable can't describe it.
Who would imaging flying a tank in mid air? This movie deserves to be credited the "movie of the year." I can only hope it receives the earnings it deserves. As a die hard fan of the A-Team series I was surprised to see a movie with completely diffeent cast pull off the impossible----bringing back that childhood relish. What this movie just brought back is a feeling I have not experienced in more than thirty years. I haven't seen so many people cheer with rejoice since the Death Star exploded in Star Wars. I can't encourage the parents enough to take their children to see this film. There is not much blood, sex or swearing. Completely nude free. Great romance scenes with complete respect to the younger viewers. I am so happy that my childhood series finally made it to the box office. Gotta' go, I'm off to see it a the big screen again.
Jumper (2008)
Can't stop watching Jumper
I thought the movie was great. Fantastic flavor of characters too. I hope there will be a part two which could be as great as the first. Will Roland Cox survive where he left off? Who will cut Griffin down? Millie Harris was interesting and will she return? Oh yeah, I almost forgot David Rice----the star. I'm sure 'ol David, David, David who's enjoying Key West now and Easter Island in the next fifteen seconds will return as well to the sequel. The Bourne Identity was really good, but let's jump here to JUMPER. I regret not seeing it at the box office which explains why such a great film went unnoticed until I saw it on HBO. A little more advertising this time around will bring me to the box office for part two.
