Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead (1991)
A Very Decent 90's Kid flick
From the being of the movie, I had a hard time of following this movie. But, as the first five minutes went by and we got to the babysitter 's death. Which I thought it was going to be committed by the kids and was thankful that they didn't. I love how shocked the women got freaked out by all the stuff in the house. I love all the typical 90's kid flicks clichés like the tomboy girl refusing to dress more like a girl or the funny little montage. I didn't enjoy the teen-aged brother using drugs and felt the movie should have gotten a PG-13 rating. But,I love how he changed from that to nice,cleaned-up, young man and taking responsibility. Anyways, I thought fashion show was funny for the idea for uniforms even though I can't imagine any school taking them up. But, however, I loved it for how the kids pulled it and grew up. It was nice to see mature teen film that doesn't deal with the search for sex. And the I will leave off on one note about the music, I would have to say the music was decent but, forgettable.
Dream a Little Dream (1989)
A really decent 80's teen movie
I just finished watching this movie on my account with Hulu. At first, it was very confusing with the constant switching over to the old couple to the kid. But, finally clicked when we got to the scene with the house covered in toilet paper. Just to warn you it had some weird surreal imagery and some violence involving a gun. I thought the part where they were dealing with serious scenes like when they got to the fight scene with the abusive the key love interest's previous was a little after- school special. But, overall it was one of the best 80's teen movie. I really enjoy in-school dance done with the main character and love-interest. The music was classic and fun. I love the whole thing. I would watch it again if I did not have to go to bed in an hour. So,do yourself a favor and see this movie. You will not be disappointed.
After.Life (2009)
Afterlife?
That Darn Cat, Afterlife, Speed Racer, and both of the Addams Family movies. Though vastly different, these movies have one thing or person in common. Yep, they all star Christina Ricci. She is my favorite actress because of her roles as Wednesday Addams in Addams Family Values and Patty in That Darn Cat. She plays such severe, yet sassy characters as well as light-hearted characters like Penelope the pig-nosed girl in Penelope and Katrina Van Tassel in The Sleepy Hollow. Now, do they shock anyone any less or make her any less of an actress? No, she should open up her repertoire. But, it is kind of hard to watch her play these sweetheart roles any less? Heck Yes!!! As I promised, I sat through Afterlife and now I am going to write you about it. Basically, the story is about an elementary school teacher named Anna Taylor who has for some reason has become very distant in life. Probably, it could be her ice- her-veins mother or maybe she is dead. I, mean all be it if you awake up in a morgue and yet you can breathe. You can also see by her ability to move and talk that she must be dead. Well, it couldn't be her looks those have be there since birth, people. They are not going away. Sorry about that Christina Ricci. Anyways, it starts when Ana Taylor and her boyfriend, Paul Coleman played by Justin Long, are together in bed and some reason Ana jumps out of bed and runs right into the shower. They have a discussion about him not being enough for each other and Ana says that she is fine. Later that day, Anna and Paul go out to dinner at a real posh restaurant. And before Paul could make a proposal, Anna takes off in her car and gets in a car crash. Then, she wakes up in a morgue staring up at the local morgue director who tells her that she is dead while he injects her with some kind of muscle relaxer. Well, I guess I will try to remember that the next time I need a shot when I'm dead. He keeps repeating over and over again "just because a person is born, they are alive." Well, that isn't the exact quote. But, this is a kid's site as well and I got family members reading this as well. But, as the movie goes on, Paul starts to consider that Anna isn't dead. This is well after she figures it out for herself and killed by the morgue director. Anyways, he goes off and rescues her from to only be killed by the Morgue Director. Yeah, I guess that was a real shocker. The monster gets away with it ending. Okay, it was good movie, even Pan's Labyrinth worthy even. It was just this one time; I could not get Christina Ricci actually playing a victim's part.
Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989)
Delightfully Dumb
When I first got the idea to see this movie was when I caught the end of it on Comedy Central. Which gave me doubts about the quality of the show. But, It turned out to be much better than excepted. I enjoy the over-the- top dumbness that this movie had to offer. One example is how Bill and Ted talk. They talk just like regular slackers. I also enjoy how they have Joan Of Arc be the leader of a exercise group. Another thing is the friendship that they share is perfectly done and the jokes were hilarious. It was funny that George Carlin,a man known for being a cussing comedian, stayed very quiet. And anyways overall the movie was "Excellent" and it even got me hooked on the animated series that you can find on hulu.com Well, Be excellent to each other and party on Dudes.
The Witches of Eastwick (1987)
A weird chick flick
I decided to get this movie because the other movie I got ,A Goofy Movie, made me uneasy remembering how long ago it's been since I've seen it. But, it turns out I was wrong. A Goofy Movie, a kid flick, was better than this movie. But, don't get me wrong or anything. But, this movie was weird and funny at some points. While it failed in some other places and made me feel like I was watching the adult version of Twilight. Though, I do like the two church scenes. The first one being where the woman starts screaming about whores and how she knows what the three women are doing. The second scene I liked was when Van Horne was vomiting up cherries. Overall, it was a good film and I would recommend it to someone who enjoys these old campy 80's movies. Otherwise, I would pass this movie up.
A Goofy Movie (1995)
A great underrated kid movie classic
When I picked this movie all I could think of all the great memories that came along with it. Starting off with the great music that was in it. The catchy lyrics from "After Today" and "I2I". I also still loved how maturity that could be found in this most simple parts. An example being with how Goofy reacts to finding out that Max, his son, lied to him. I love the way the worked in some light fourth wall jokes like having Donald Duck and Mickey join in on the song," All in All" while being lost in the middle of the highway to The little Mermaid light switch. I also enjoyed how the growth of relationship between Max and Goofy. Overall I loved this movie and hope it becomes a real Disney Classic. I also enjoyed the music video with Lou Bega doing the cleaned up verison of Mambo No. 5. In short,a great movie and wonderful DVD release to boot!
Gekijôban Poketto Monsutâ Maboroshi no Pokemon Rugia Bakutan (1999)
Pokemon 2000 ushers in the Millennium
I have always enjoyed pokemon from the animated series to anything else. So as you can guess, this movie was ,for me and maybe many others, really great. The movie starts out with a typical mini-movie starring Pika chu and some of the pokemon he is friends with. And in this adventure, the whole poke-gang(as I will call them for now) end up falling down some giant hole in order to rescue their friend, Togpei. Anyways, we see bunch of new pokemon that have yet to be seen and some real cute dance scene performed by the Bellossom and other accompanying pokemon. Then, finally the group finds the lost togepi with a nest of exeggcute who have become very attached to him and won't let him go. Then suddenly tragedy hits as a huge eletrical storm breaks out and the pokemon must work together to keep the exeggcute nest safe. Finally, the storm ends and it's time for our poke-gang to go home. But, before that we get to see the lost brother from the exeggscute nest be returned by a random Chansey and they evolve into Exeggutor. (Yep, get it exeggcute = execute, exeggutor= executor) Well, I will admit this part of the movie is nice and cute. But, I will have to admit not having the narrator like they do in most of these mini-movies is kind of nice. it allows the pokemon to speak for themselves through their actions.
Now for the actual movie, I personally loved the majority of the movie despite how bad the jokes were. I love seeing Ash at age ten being a strong and impetuous braggart that he can be still pull off actually saving the world. And yes, I know that Misty can be very bland even for a female character. But, I love seeing a likable female character. She may not scream girl power per se. But, she is the ten year old girl in all of us. In this movie, she does the typical female protagonist thing where she hides her true feelings from the male antagonist. I like the part where she says "He is a boy, and he is my friend. But, he is not my boyfriend". But, she does change towards the end and goes to help Ash when the other female co-star offers to do it. Next the members of team Rocket, I like them in this movie because they do actually help and was funny how they actually get some recognition compared to the other movies. Even though, they do supply the majority of the bad jokes. Now,my rating for this movie was a seven because I could see how hard they worked to get the sheer awesomeness in the artwork and the music was great. And I have to admit that seeing movie that was not CGI or had a bunch of adult innuendos put in it was nice. Now, my only complaint I had with it was the generic anime style action to it. It was the power of oneness to all of it. And the message was kind of confusing. It was between the environmental message and the the power of one. And it kind of seemed the movie was making a decision between whether of the two go with. And finally what was with having the collector make that statement toward as if we were going to see him again. Well that it for this week. See ya!
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (1995)
An Nice Night Of Nostaglia
I remembered seeing this show as a kid and hating it for it's bizarre characters and over-the-top cheesiness. (This coming from someone who liked to watch shows like Captain Planet and the Planeteers.) Anyways,I still remembered seeing this movie and just had to pick it up again. I like to do to gauge how things have changed and see if movies like this still hold up to ones now.
The movie was just like the show just longer and zero commercials. However, I did enjoy seeing Bulk and Skull and their witticism. I also thought the movie had great cinematography and the characters were well-done. But, I do have some questions like why does Ivan Ooze make one of the parent zombie dance? To me, this is kind of unnecessary. But, that's Power Rangers. Anyways, a part that I liked a lot was with warrior girl. Even in a cheesy show such as this,She was completely a kick-butt, karate-fighting girl and I love her for it. Girl Power! Now, for another part that unnerved me was with the kid that showed at the beginning of the movie gave this nice, tender, speech to all the kids to convince them to save their parents from Ivan Ooze. Is it me or would you just kind of ignore this speech.
Overall, I thought this movie was still awesome with the nice easy- to-dance music and some kick-butt,girl power. I still dislike the Power rangers show, but at least the movie was good and gave me a nice night of old nostalgia. So, it earns a 6 out of 10 from me.
She's the Man (2006)
Amanda Bynes's Coming out Movie.
From the time I saw Amanda Bynes on shows like All that and Amanda show to movies like Big Fat Liar and Syndey White,I have come to enjoy the ditzy, yet sassiness that seems to be the embodiment of Amanda Bynes. So, I enjoyed it big time in this movie, especially after seeing her Easy A. I liked seeing her play much more mature role and seeing her be more sincere. A certain moment that I saw this was the beginning with the coach explaining how girls couldn't play sports or the intensity you could see her eyes when her boyfriend had taken back that "She could play soccer as well as any guy." I thought this scene was well dramatized enough. Now onto the rest of the review, A few other parts I liked were with the girl who wore the eye glasses and headgear by the name of Eunice. I thought she played the kid who tries at getting some and gets nothing part well. She was great at the scene in diner and well towards the toward the ending scene on the field. What I appreciated about this film was they made the parents a little bit more in the know than that of the ones in Easy A. Why I liked this is because in a teen movie, yes, the teen needs to be smart. But, so do the parents. This way the teen is more amazing in comparison and not just getting way with stuff. A few other things I want to mention about the movie are soundtrack and clothing. I enjoyed almost all the songs in this movie. I liked Veronicas the most. Now the clothing, no offense but what was going on with the cheerleading uniforms toward the end of the movie? Anyways ending of review and please, if you are reading this Amanda Bynes, please come back! That is all and good night.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001)
A Magical Movie to be had
Now, when I first saw this movie, I didn't read the book despite the pushing and prodding of my fellow peers. But, I really enjoyed this movie. So much so,that I actually read the book. Anyways, the things I enjoyed the most in this movie was how despite how bookish it looked I could still feel the feelings that the characters or actors were feelings. Another thing was,as all kids do, was the dialogue. I will always have the phrases "pertificus totalus", " Now if I could remember what I have forgotten", and "how can you be nearly headless" engraved in my own mind forever. I also enjoyed parts like with Professor Quirrell and meeting Harry or the ending with Voldemort. There was a huge intensity that could not be denied. I also loved Sorting Hat and Norbert, the baby dragon. The Sorting Hat was awesome with the deep and knowledgeable voice. And I have always had a deep tenderness for any reptile. Anyways, All I can says this was an magical triumph for Chris Columbus and J.K. Columbus. And thank you to the both from me for the best book made into a movie film I've ever seen.
Titan A.E. (2000)
Don Bluth's Last Stand
Ah, Titan A.E.,this is can be one of Don Bluth's best movies. First for all the dark imagery and sci-fi wonder that was interwoven into it. Second for being a movie that even Disney wanted to rip off of. Not ruin neither Treasure Planet or Atlantis for anyone, but yes they are both kind of rip offs of this movie. But, they are both essentially unique and different plots and ideas. The next thing, I enjoyed of this movie, of which I enjoy of any movie, is the music. I loved the all the songs because they used my favorite band, Lit. I also want to say I liked the female character. I kind of like the fact that she isn't some flighty little thing like all the other girl in his movies. Overall, not a bad film.
Treasure Planet (2002)
Couldn't Stop Watching it!!!
This movie was the best of the Disney Movies to come out in the 2000's. I, myself, have watched this movie at least over 10 times and can repeat every line in it. It was the perfect marriage of Fantasy and Science Fiction. I love how they represented the relationship between Jim and Silver. And even now, I still love that song. This was definitely John Rzeznik at his best. Though, I have notice a lot of similaraties to Titan A.E. after I seeing it. But, I still like it as much as that Don Bluth film and still feel it should be Disney Classic. I know that it didn't do well and will be one of the many underrated Disney movies. I still think of it as the best movies ever and should be seen. So, please make the effort to see it!
