Terrifier 2 (2022)
Tiberius Films strikes again - but not in a good way
It's not even the worst that the movie only consists of nonsensical needless gore without any sense or context. You could rather watch a local butcher do his job in your hometown and it would acquire the same excitement.
The worst are the actors (excluding the clown, that actor did a fabulous job), the poor dialogues ("why are you not listening me and blaming me?!" - "because!" ???) and the unnecessary long scenes. Every single scene could've been cut by a few seconds or even minutes and then, maybe, the movie wouldnt give you the same feeling as watching your boomer mother searching for the space bar on the computer keyboard. Maybe, and only maybe, then the movie would've had a chance to build the slightest tension that otherwise you were searching for unsuccessfully.
We finally walked out of the cinema when after 40 minutes the plot (and the gore/splatter) still hadn't really developed but instead only some school children and a clown had played with an already dead opposum and its rotten maggot infested insides for over 10 minutes straight.
Save your money and your time, this movie ain't worth it.
Nanny (2022)
Magnificently played out by Anna Diop
What I do want to critic is the usual stereotypical and archetypical fears that are perpetrated by this movie: the stereotype of the stranger woman from another country, another continent, another culture and skin color is to be feared for she could be unpredictable, dangerous and crazy, the stereotypical notion that Africans suspectably rather seek help in voodoo and witchcraft than mental health which makes them even more to be feared and ostracized and the stereotype of mentally ill people that they as well are not just suffering but again unstable, impulsive, unpredictable and foremost violent. None of this is true of course but it's just another movie that cements these kind of stereotypes, which I do find very problematic.
Nonethess absolutely do watch the movie because Anna Diop gives, in my opinion, an Oscar worthy performance and outshined everyone else in this movie.
The ending of the movie gives it a well rounded well needed close.
It's absolutely not a real horror movie but rather a thriller drama. I love this movie and absolutely recommend to watch it.
Mok-gyeok-ja (2018)
TOP NOTCH PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER
Don't listen to the overall rating of 6.5 the movie deserves so much more.
The movies is brutally thrilling and captivating, at the same time playing a psychological mind game. I was at the edge of my seat until the end. Throughout the movie there were several small plot twists.
10/10 can recommend.
Little Women (2019)
I don't understand the hype
Have people forgotten how to tell a story or how to direct movies?
The characters were cliché, the scenes messy and the movie a chaotic mess.
The Visit (2015)
Who the duck ever decided the found-footage thing was a thing
I freaking hate found-footage movies.
The only time it ever really worked was in the Blair witch project and after its success everyone decided they needed to do it.
This movie was solid but the freaking "hurr durr the character in the movie is filming a movie that has nothing to do with the actual movie and somehow we coincidentally found the material" destroyed all joy for it.
Red Line (2013)
Captivating
It only moving objects, fast action scenes and exploding items for 2 hours can excite you, this movie is not for you.
If you're otherwise interested in a captivating movie with an interesting story line and plot twists you will definitely not regret watching it.
Fear of Rain (2021)
Intense but left of lot of chances
It was intense and I was captivated by what is real and what isn't but I'm rather disappointed of where the movie didn't go.
Caleb mentioned they're both odd, but never goes into detail, although in one scene (in the car during the rain) you can clearly see a semicolon on his wrist (symbol for mental illness and suicidal thoughts or attempts).
Why her supposed mother killed herself and what's going on with some of her hallucinations. For example in the hospital she had this fantasy or memory of walking towards a painting of a girl which looks like herself who tells her to save her and get her out of there. Also when she is in the attic there is a blonde little girl there telling her to save her which turns out to be her and not to be real. When Caleb and her researched missing kids in one scene they scrolled over a girl that looks just like the girl in the painting and looks like her. Why is she so obsessed with saving a kidnapped child? Why is her dead mother in her hallucinations sitting over baby photographs crying her eyes out and why is she saying "it's your fault, I killed myself because of you"?
One possible explanation could've been that rain herself was kidnapped as a child after the couple's child died in childhood not being able to deal with the loss. The loss of her child and the guilt of having kidnapped another child drove the mother insane and having or developing mental illness herself she confused the kidnapped rain with the real rain and means her dead child by saying "I killed myself because of you", because the unbearable grief caused her to commit suicide. This would also explain the confusion by rain not being able to tell what's real and what's not, as a child trying to surpress her real personality and fitting in as the couple's child, telling her father he's constantly confusing her, possibly manipulating her, him being as aggressive as a kidnapper could be, also for every real memory being told it's not real and just imagination.
Nevertheless, the ending doesn't appear coherent to me, like the movie was supposed to go in 5 different directions but not going anywhere fully leaving us with a half-cooked teenage romance.
Still worth watching and also the actresses of rain and the female neighbor were quite good.
London Has Fallen (2016)
Extremely good action movie
This one had me on the edge of my seat. The action scenes and the acting, by the main actors as well as the stunt scenes were formidable and well executed. Although the overall ending was foreseeable a lot of the plot and fight scenes were not. I enjoyed the story and was drawn in my the characters so 9/10 can recommend.
Sputnik (2020)
Hidden gem behind an unjustified 6.4 rating
Way matter than the rating although I didn't like the "oh she's a woman so she is emotional and has a romantic approach".
Don't know when she fell in love because there was actually no reason and also not really enough time for that.
The ending falls a little flat and I missed a hidden second movie plot (as in the creature hiding in the woman only to be transferred to his son who shares 50% of DNA).
Songbird (2020)
Coronavirus deniers are voting the movie down
Otherwise it cannot be explained why this movie has such a low rating. I think if they called the virus any other name, the movie would have something around 7-8, which it deserves. And I don't care about that Apa guy.
I watch a lot of disaster and pandemic movies and this one was really a good solid one. It got me extra creeps because of the story line that tells us "what could be in the future" regarding coronavirus - kinda, I won't go into detail how realistical this case is. nevertheless the movie has a good plot, a good tension and although maybe altogether a little cheesy with the dramatic teenage romance, absolutely recommendable.
The App (2019)
wasted too much time of my life with this
Nothing made sense, abrupt out of the blue conversation without any depth and stereotypical phrases just filling the time.
also animal abuse, that pure snake :'(
State of Emergency (2011)
Absolutely worth watching
Thrilling scenery, brilliant jump scare and a well elaborated story.
Kokoro ga sakebitagatterunda. (2015)
heartwarming story
I coincidentally fell in love with this movie. it has a heartwarming story and the lovely ending that made me cry. the music it's simple but lovely.
American Poltergeist (2015)
Is it a horror satire? Is it a film student movie? Nobody knows.
It's the kind of movie Netflix puts in their offer because it's super cheap or maybe actually for free and makes the list of movies appear bigger than it actually is.
the movie seems like someone at college was bored in the summer and decided it was a good idea to make a movie at their home with their mom and friends as actors without actually knowing anything about movies, costumes, dialogues, audio or any kind of human interaction whatsoever.
Midnight Sun (2018)
Didnt grew to its potential
I was very disappointed by this movie. First off, I didnt watch a trailer beforehand so I thought this was a cute little romantic feel good movie for date night with my girlfriend. Wrong.
Wanting to have a good time and then have you girlfriend suffocating while sobbing is not cool. lol.
Although this really did happen, the movie is not at fault. Well, well.
I thought the movie couldve been so much more, like.. instead of just dying off, she couldve become a music star of some level, with freaky concerts because the sun can never shine and telling the world about XP. Or at least playing a real concert once. But no, boom and dead. Wow. Not even a death scene. Only the Schwarzenegger sun shortly mourning by staring passionately on the ocean. ...?
After she died the movie went downhill. For godsake the girl just died and the dad is ... well just like before? But... her song is in the radio... so that's cool, right? ...
It had quite potential but the filmmakers didnt take it.
The music was also a little disappointing. Although it was emotional due to the scenery I really, really didnt like the songs.
Wild Wild Country (2018)
Both sides of the story
I was born in 1987 so naturally I have never heard of Baghwan or the Rajneesh movement. I may have heard the name Osho once or twice, but Ive never new something about it.
It's fascinating to watch this documentary. I feel both sides are portayed equally. There are interviewed a lot of people directly connected to the cult, but also as well those who were against it in the 80s. It is breathtaking to watch from episode to episode what went on. Netflix also managed to keep it exciting, going from step to step, year to year, with interviews, pictures, old video footages, old news coverages, while never sugar-coating, nor demonizing it.
I can absolutely recommend to watch it.
Queer Eye (2018)
It's a feel good show
At times the show can get a little cheesy, but it makes me so absolutely feel good about myself and about people and the world and humanity as a whole.
And the guys who get makeovers are sooo sympathetic. Neal for example, i laughed my ass off over his jokes and comments.
All in all, well done, worth watching, 10/10 can recommend.
Mother! (2017)
Just left the cinema: 2 hours of lifetime wasted I'm never getting back
I just feel the urge to request my money back. 30 Minutes before the end of the movie, I contemplated leaving and I've never done that before. But I endured this horrible movie, because I'm a very curious person. Let's say without curiosity I could've left without missing out.
Ladies and gentlemen, "A Serbian film" is no longer the worst movie ever produced. "Mother!" kicked it of its throne.
PS: Personally I feel movies (and books, paintings, poems, just any art) are like jokes, regarding: if you need to explain it to be understood, it's not possible for it to be good. That's mutually exclusive.
Hurricane Bianca (2016)
Try to survive the first 23 Minutes... after that it's going to be ~ FAB ~ U ~ LOUS ~ !
Well whoever decided on the screenplay...
I didn't know Bianca before that, but I knew RuPauls Drag Race. So idk what they did with the first ~20 minutes of the film, they shouldve cut that part short to like 5 minutes.
Bianca del Rio is the full 110 % bitches, but you just notice how uncomfortable she is without her drag. She's just born to sissy. And she is perfect with that.
After 23 Minutes the whole movie turns and becomes awesome and fabulous.
