Skavlan (2009–2021)

Excellent Widefawning talk show
3 November 2013
I have seen 4 episodes October 2013. Very impressed of the hosts' ability to make very different people coming from all over the world tell their story and the speak with each other. I am usually a very momentary visitor at this kind of show because I am not interested in the hosts who are usually the main subject. Skavlan is keeping a low profile and seems to establish a surrounding that makes the guest feel confidence and then speak out without very much restraint. The guests I have encountered here are among others: Malala and her father, Bianca Jagger and "Morsan", an eightieths woman who for 17 years has taken care of Swedish and foreign prostitutes around Malmskillnadsgatan i Stockholm. Very much worth watching!!

Very disappointing!

Very disappointing! A school example of how a hilarious, funny and moving book can be made into an incoherent collection of sound and music. More or less everything is wrong: character description, portrait of the specific era, soundtrack, narrator's role, casting except for a few very good ones, setting etc etc. There is no flow and nothing keeping the project together. It is like watching a long series of sketches with a few good ones thrown in but a lot of cinematic junk food in between. The best scenes are definitely the darker ones which also stand out more prominent than in the book, whereas the funny and warm side is almost completely missing, just being referred to without any enthusiasm. Read the book instead.

A great tour de force
8 April 2004
This is a very funny, hilarious, absolutely respectless and politically uncorrect Xmas calendar in 24 parts. A great tour de force from Anden but unlikely to have any chance with anybody not familiar with danish language and present social and political conditions. Story is of course completely unlikely but allows some very harsh satirical punches against the prevailing climate in the Danish discussion about Nationality/Globalization and general tolerance. Music/Songs are very good. Anders Matthesen has actually succeeded in transforming parts of his standup show and radio shows into a very seeable miniserie. I give it 9/10.

Breathtaking masterpiece
20 April 2003
Unlike some of the previous commentators who cannot see the movie but only a hideous fascist prop for "strongest man makes the best ruler, I find this movie to be the best legend of old times in pictures and sound that I have seen for a very long time. As a movie it is simply outstanding!

I was in fact very sceptical about the story before I saw it, but from my point of view it makes beautiful good sense comparing the art of the sword to that of the calligraphic pen and the bottom line being strongly opposed to war and violence while advocating for the power of the mind
