Feel Good (2020–2021)
Nice first season, but what the heck in the second?
21 June 2021
I enjoyed the first season, it was not perfect but interesting enough, and I thought the two main actresses were good. As it commonly happens, there was something different in the style of the second season, as soon as it started. I can't quite describe it, mainly because I only watched 1 episode and a half. It won't be a popular opinion, maybe, but I lost all interest in the series in the scene where Mae is throwing lots of eggs towards a building. What a stupid scene, full of wrong acts. I mean, really? If you can't see that wasting food (even worse, food produced by exploiting animals) is not something fun, something "to do in the name of art", something to film a "cool scene", then whatever... I'm not interested in your show anymore. Whoever wrote the scene and was OK with filming it, c'mon... I think the same effect could be reached without Mae wasting food, or making a mess of a building.

Love, Simon (2018)

Not so great, and even worse if you have read the book
2 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Tldr: The film is mediocre, and if you read the book (which is great), you will notice it even more. Simon and the rest of the characters are very well written in the book, and there's no room for tropes like the "Easily Forgiven" or "Karma Houdini" ones, unlike in the film.

So I watched this film like 2 years ago or so, and I thought it was okeish. I initially gave it a 7, conscious that I was being very generous simply because it was a movie with LGBTQ+ thematic, and hence, I felt I had to support projects like this. But no, the film is not that great per se. The story is not very deep, and the characters are not so interesting. Mainly, the protagonist, Simon, is not a nice person. He is not a good example or a hero. He manipulates his friends, putting at risk their feelings and relationships - their happiness - all for egoistical interests. But all is forgiven at the end, because after all Simon is supposed to be a good guy that just took some "small" wrong decisions under pressure and, more importantly, did everything in the name of love. Awful message, common place, the contrary of what people need to believe is correct and good. You name it.

Just yesterday I finished reading the book "Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda" for the first time, and I loved it. The book is so good for many reasons, for example it is a good example for teenagers of how to act when you encounter certain emotional problematics. I watched the film again, today, thinking "Why I don't remember this film as good one...?" Well, turns out the film has small to do with the book, really. Simon, in the books, is an awesome person. He is not perfect, but no way he would manipulate his friends. The only thing he does in the book is inviting Martin to some activities that include Abby, nothing more. That's not the only difference between book-Simon and movie-Simon, but that's the one that annoyed me the most. And to be honest, all the characters in the film have very small connections (other than the names and a few details) to the characters in the book. The film and its characters are way two-dimensional, when the book is so rich. Martin is a joke in the film, when in the book he has motivations; he is not totally unlikeable, there's no room to enjoy how he fails and puts himself in ridicule (not that the scene even exists in the book). By the end of the book most of us can probably empathize with Martin feelings, at least a bit. And that's how you really write a good character.

It's a shame this book was made into a film, where time is a problem and so much needs to be cut... But changing the characters that way, I really can't understand that, especially with Simon's case. Now the series "Love, Victor" is being made... And even if it's not as interesting as "Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda", at least there is more depth and the characters are not that flat. I wish they had made a series about Simon and Blue's story instead of this film.

If you really want to know about this story, please read the book. It really deserves attention. But please, forget about this film.

Ok first season, then some bad dark comedy arrived
20 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
For some reason in the second season the writers thought it would be cool to include some dark "comedy"... Or I don't know what they tried to do. In episode 4 of that season, the ending joke involves violence against a bird... After that I didn't feel like watching the series anymore, but as season one was alright I gave it one more chance. Next episode stars talking about a murderer that ate people. I don't know why they saw the need to change the style of humour from season one. And more reasons why season 2 is bad? Episode 4 also sends a very weird message about having to do your job even if you desagree morally with part of it (like selling guns). More? in the second episode of this season, a character decides to ignore the fact that a girl is a transphobe just because she's hot. The first season wasn't brilliant, but was ok and funny enough... But in just 5 episodes of season 2 they include so many wrong things making this series unwatchable, at least if you are a person that can't ignore this type of content that I mentioned.

Very poorly written
11 December 2020
Many reviews say the series is bad because of the plot twist, but to me it's bad from the very first episode. There are things not explained or poorly explained from the beginning, and many boring scenes as well. The main problem seems to be the script, but also the directors and the editors didn't do a good job at all. It's a shame because the series can look promising at first, the setting is good, very nice locations, not bad stage and costume design. I don't even find actors bad as other are saying... but with a poor script and a bad directions, they can't pull out miracles out of nothing.

I watched the full series only because my partner wanted to see if it was going to get better. Spoiler alert: it doesn't.

Started interesting, then it was just meh
11 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The first few episodes I thought it was a cute series with some promising ideas, considering it was focused on teen romance. It seemed that this series was going to be more balanced between being cheesy and an attempt of portraying teens with a more introspective point of view. But at the end the writers didn't seem to know how to write the last episodes, even though is a short series.

I was hoping this was not another fiction where starting a relationship equals happiness. I was expecting for the characters to meet mid season, and see more realistic problematic related to the start of a loving relationship. But well, nope... Writers chose the easy and cheesy... These kids won't be together until the very end, and that's a happy ending. It's so unrealistic and kind of boring.

The whole story felt rushed and very often cringy, but the last 3 episodes are the worse. The editing also gets bad by the end, with some voice over obviously added to some scenes to make us think characters are having conversations. Very unpolished. Actors were good in my opinion. I have seen worse, that's for sure. Maybe the characters could have been written better? Sure. Maybe the story should have been about kids in their 18s instead of teens? Probably, but then, apparently, the writers wouldn't know how to write something dramatic without having ridiculous plots to get to the climax.
