The Other Side of the Tracks (2008)
Stuck in the Middle
As stated in my title, I'm "stuck in the middle" with the movie. It is a very haunting piece. Given the film's ending, I decided to watch this again to take the lines and characters in once more. Having certain religious beliefs, I don't condone the story's plot at all, but I am a definite fan of Fehr. I must say that the cinematography/photography is absolutely STUNNING. Watching a second time gave me a chance to notice the individual raindrops on the "Tracks'" windows, the glorious colors of the flowers, and the overall arrangement of the scenes. When the movie is shown, I flip to another channel. It is very thought provoking but if you are of a particular faith, this movie will not set well with you. I gave this movie a 9 out of 10 due to its overall picturesque appeal......
The English Patient (1996)
Very Serious and Melancholy Film - Fiennes at his best
If you are in love with Ralph Fiennes as I am, this is the film for you. Even though a vast majority of the film is in flashback mode as he lies in a bed dying, he will completely steal your heart once again as you see this movie unfold. I will not try to tackle the historical background of this film because that is just not me. This review is based on my feelings alone. Every time I see Fiennes in this film, I cry. He is just beautiful. He reluctantly begins a love affair with a gorgeous married woman in the desert. They soon become very involved with each other, hiding their affair from her husband (Colin Firth). The love scenes between the two in this film are so passionate and overwhelming that one must hold one's breath and watch several times to take the emotional ecstasy in. I also cry during the parts of the film when his nurse is taking care of him and ultimately over medicates him so he can die in peace. She is beautiful too. I believe she has great love for him and also for what he has lost. She is in love with the mystery of the man dying on his sick bed. The scene where Fiennes carries his lover out of the cave after she has passed is just devastating. He goes through a personal hell to try and save her only to find that she has expired after his return. This film is riveting during every second. I'm glad I didn't see this in a theater. I would never have made it out. A dear friend of mine gave me a VHS, and I subsequently bought it on DVD. I generally watch it every Friday night! This is a must see - - - Fiennes at his personal best! (The beautiful man)
Interlude (1968)
Haunting Love Story
I was given a copy of this movie by a very dear friend of mine - no actually he is more than a dear friend~~~What a beautiful story line. To me, this movie represents how quickly two people can become so attached during various times in their lives. Oskar Werner gives a superb performance as a major orchestra conductor; then, there is Barbara Ferris who arrives on the scene as a naive reporter (much younger). The two bond quickly and begin sharing various passions as Werner's wife remains in the background. Then, there is "the lamp." To me, the saddest part of this movie is the ending when the two meet for the last time after their break up. It is a portrait of what might have been, and it is very difficult to watch. I agree with my friend who said that it is very hard to watch especially if you have experienced a break up and know that the person still loves you as you do them.
