My husband and i Both felt very jarred by the huge chunks of missing movie and nonsensical cuts.
One example of them is when the mother drinks the blue juice in a cave with a bunch of only women, she's in a flowy gown, she falls to the ground seizing. Smash cut to her out in the desert with paul, she's in an entirely different outfit (now in the black leather desert warrior suit) and they Are surrounded by all the freman men and women. Huh?!
There are about ten of these, conservatively.
Even in the big hand to hand fight at the end. Paul was stabbed in the lower side. Then the bad dude is pushing his knife in to Paul's chest area. Paul grabs it with his hand (not sure it's a smart thing to do to cut one's hand off but it's cinematic) and then The bad dude suddenly had a knife in his chest and paul Has one in his shoulder (not in his side). Huh?
It's endlessly jarring
Also....the screenplay changed the books in ways that made it worse. The sister was born and kileld The Barron. Why change that??
The Channing romance was also more important in the book-why change that??
Also the filming is so stylized. The harkonins are filmed in black and white. But when bad dude cousin is not in the Harkonin world he's filmed in color, and actually Has skin tone. Too much! Not needed!
The sound track was distracting.
Too much all around. Way too much. Just tell the story! Style over substance!
Shogun is a recent adaptation and its So much better in this regard-in every regard.
This one Gilds the Lilly endlessly. The harkonin actors are written one note.
First Dune movie was better.
Why option book and then Change it???
Not sure why everyone is raving. Disappointing.
