The Mule (2018)
Enjoyable
I really enjoyed this film. Clint's performance was, as usual, right there. I found myself chuckling throughout especially his comments on "people today." He surrounds himself with some terrific actors to help make a hard-to-believe story believable. Oh yes, it was loosely based on a true story.
Mary Poppins Returns (2018)
Strictly for Mary Poppins Fanatics
A nice little movie, but a bit dull. The special effects were excellent, especially the cartoon-sequence, but the movie dragged a bit for me. It was basically a remake of the original flick in a different time period. If you loved the original Poppins (I didn't), you'll love Mary Poppins Returns.
Pixels (2015)
Simply awful!
My favorite part of this movie was the product placement shot of Dan Akyrod's vodka. Other than that, I can't say anything good about this film. The visual effects were ho-hum. Sandler phoned this one in (and this is a guy who can act as seen in "Punch Drunk Love") and that's being nice. The best performance was by the kid who played the young Adam Sandler. The only way I was able to sit through this film was to phony laugh at all the "jokes." With so many good sci-fi choices in theaters right now, stay away from Pixels. I wanted to like this film as I enjoyed the games featured when I was a kid, but I couldn't. This one should sweep the Razzies.
America: Imagine the World Without Her (2014)
Awesome Movie that Confirms the Liberal Agenda
This film rocks! Interviews with liberal stalwarts like Noam Choamsky make this movie a must-see for all Americans! D'Souza tells it likes it is. America committed numerous crimes in influencing other countries elections, slavery, and the Native American genocide. He is includes numerous inspiring messages from President Obama. Forget what conservatives tell you about American history, D'Souza nails it and isn't afraid of any repercussions. He goes out on a limb to challenge capitalism. He takes a nostalgic look back on his life in India and wonders, "Why did I move to America?" Very powerful movie. All my liberal friends love this movie. He makes Michael Moore look like Rush Limbaugh...in my book.
They Only Kill Their Masters (1972)
James Garner at his best!
I saw this movie when I was ten-years-old with my cousin Johnny. My memory is a bit fuzzy, but I remember liking it. It seems that Dobermans were capturing the imaginations of Americans from Los Angeles to New York, and this film reflects that craze. Does anyone remember that crazy movie about a group of Dobermans that were trained to commit crime. It's odd how certain dogs become really popular, then aren't very popular at all. That said, I decided to watch this film again...and you know what, it's a really good movie filled with veteran actors who know how to act. Not fast-paced, but a darn good whodunit that will leave you guessing until it is all revealed. A must for James Garner fans. Quite possibly his best, if you don't include the "Great Escape" or "Support Your Local Gunfighter."
The Streetsweeper (2002)
Real Italian-Americans for a change!
Just let me tell you how happy I was to see a film that featured Italian- Americans that weren't gun-crazed New York mobsters, slick Vegas casino bosses, or Jersey kids that spend their nights at discos. I can only imagine how the everyday Italian-American feels going to movies to see only stereotypical images of themselves over and over again. That's only one reason that I thoroughly enjoyed "The Streetsweeper." It was about real Italian-Americans, the type you might meet at a market in San Diego's Little Italy (where this film was shot); welcoming, warmhearted folks. If you're Italian-American, I urge you to see this film. You will not be disappointed! PS I'm Irish-American!
Sex and the City (2008)
Terrible!
I actually enjoy the television show...this movie, however, was terrible. There was so much stuffed into it and much of it wasn't very interesting. I couldn't stand the fashion montages that seemed to drag on forever. Even worse were the cliché shots like the cell phone falling in slow motion. And her assistant! How cliché was she? This movie just meanders along until you feel like crying. Not because you care about any of the characters (they just love to shop and eat at great restaurants...don't they?), because the movie just won't end. I was hoping for some drama or excitement. A murder, a mugging, meaningful conversation...something! If the LAPD ever needs to get someone to confess to a crime, forget about hitting them with a phone book...just show the suspect this awful film.
