Tell (2012)
Tell
As a fan of Ryan Connolly's internet web series' Film Riot and Film State, I had been waiting for Tell to finally arrive since they first talked about it. When it finally was uploaded to Youtube, there was no disappointment, there was just awe. The fact that this short was able to be pulled off on the small budget it had is amazing. This is proof that films don't need millions of dollars to work. All they need is the right cast and crew. Mr. Connolly knocked it out of the park in terms of the style for this film. Todd Bruno.. well... he needs to get more jobs because he also knocked it out of the park. In fact, all of the cast did a great job, there wasn't one weak character. The cinematography is beautiful, even for such a dark film. The pacing is perfect and the suspense is, well... suspenseful. This short that I had been waiting for so long to see lived up to my expectations and then exceeded them. I can't wait to see where Ryan Connolly's and everyone else involved with this film's careers go. Help them out! Tell your friends about Tell.
Jackass 3D (2010)
The most fun film of 2010.
First of all, if you are not a Jackass fan, then this film is not for you. It is full of crude and disgusting stunts, profanity, and shots of male genitalia. If that's not for you, then you won't like it. I, for one, happen to be a Jackass fan. Over the years of watching these guys beat themselves up for money, it almost feels like they became my friends. So, Jackass 3D was like a reunion. Hanging out with old friends in 3D. (The 3D definitely sold the film.) It starts off with a bang and doesn't let up until the very end. I haven't laughed so hard in a long time, and I didn't want it to end. A worthy installment in the Jackass series, and the most fun at a film this year. Sheer stupid fun. So, if you like watching nut-shots and "poo cocktail supreme's," then definitely check out Jackass 3D in theaters. See it with friends. And see it in 3D.
Fight Club (1999)
Fight Club
Going into Fight Club for the first time, everyone is expecting a film about, well, fighting. They're expecting Rocky or Never Back Down. Something along those lines. The truth is, of all the various plot lines in Fight Club, the fighting portion is probably the most brief. Fight Club is about fighting, but not physically. It is about fighting against society. What people tell you to do. Who they tell you to be. What to eat. How to sleep. Where to go. These are all things society tells us. Fight Club strikes a place in my heart with these ideas. I understand, and I agree. Fight Club is the most relate-able film I have ever watched, and will always be one of my favorites. David Fincher is quite possibly the most talented director of his time, and it definitely shows with Fight Club. The cast is also astounding. Every casting choice was spot-on in my opinion, especially Edward Norton's. I can't imagine anyone else playing that part. Of course the twist-ending shocked me, and also rewards repeat viewings, as you can find clues throughout the rest of the film. Over all Fight Club is and will always be one of my favorite films, and will get slightly better with each viewing.
