Knock at the Cabin (2023)
One time watch... if you're bored.
Just like similar reviews here, M. Night dropped the ball on this in every way possible.
I seen no reason to have Rupert Grint not be his native English self, accent included. He could have just as well been from England getting his visions, as anyone here in the US.
No back story on why the "Four Horsemen" were involved as there were only tales of old from the characters they are as people... much less bringers of the apocalypse.
Spoilers:
The "events" that occured after humanity is being judged one decision at a time, was so unbelievably weak. The characters in the film get to "see" what's happening, when they should have actually been affected by it. They seemed to have been protected by what's going on around the globe, so yeah, they didn't believe what was happening to be true. That's just typical human behavior, regardless of who the parents are, or their backgrounds.
It has its entertaining moments. But just that... a moment here and there. It's a book to be read knowing that the chapters that include the really exciting, nail biting reads have been left out on purpose.
Zomboat! (2019)
Very enjoyable...
Although I would agree, that zombie humor can sometimes be best left to a movie.. comedy TV shows can be more difficult to keep the ride going.
Zombieland failed miserably at that attempt... however, seeing as a sequel to Shaun of the Dead wasn't going to happen, or even sequels to other great zombie comedy films such as Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse or Cockneys vs. Zombies.. this show fills in quite nicely. Pretty much like ZNation; even when there's a serious situation, you have the "Doc" like humor to keep everything in check.
I grew up on British humor.. and that's a must if your'e going to get the underlying theme of what's considered hilarious in the U.K.
To me, this is what Shaun of the Dead would have been like in reverse, and as a TV show. Strong female leads and the conflicts from a different vantage point.
Give it a try. Sure beats the endless story lines of other shows that just keep repeating themselves.
Black Summer (2019)
It's Fear the Walkin......... Z Nation.
This is supposed to be Z Nation's answer to FTWD.
It isn't.
Like Z Nation, and if you haven't seen it.. you're going to be lost a bit trying to catch up to how badass this virus is. A few episodes in, and I can truly say this one will stand on it's own. Going to be a bit of character development going on, which can be boring at times, but this isn't a movie.
For those comparing this to any other show, truly is not a Z Nation fan. I just hope after eight episodes, it's enough to break open this series into it's own. Just like we're clinging to hope that Netflix picks up Z for Season 6.
The Orville: A Happy Refrain (2019)
Following footsteps...
In light of Star Trek Generation's "In Theory" episode.. we see once again, what happens when a human falls in love with a machine.
Only this time.. it's hilarious!
A job well done. It only missed a perfect 10 from me, because of how close the story line was/is to STG. Other than that, S2 is warming up to be well worth watching.
Charmed (2018)
When you have to hate, something new...
Unlike the failed, and miserable attempt at bringing Zombieland to TV.. which even I had to vote that one down, this is an entirely different show.
I am a fan of Charmed. Have been since it's inception, and even my children grew up watching it. It's on Netflix right as I'm typing this.. (which reminded me of the 0/1 star reviews I was reading earlier).
We don't live in 1990 any more, folks. These sisters are Charmed for all different reasons, different lives, different styles.. and yet, so much judgment over a single episode. I mentioned Zombieland's disaster, because they tried to continue where the movie left off, with a huge gap in time, story, love life between two characters now dead with no wrap up..actors that did a piss poor job of portraying their characters.. etc. But this isn't that show.
There's too many shows, or movie franchises to list here, where the first wasn't the best they had to offer. Time will tell if this show belongs in the archives along with anything else you have already chosen. It's entertainment. It's not supposed to be a political rally cry for a single community... even the original series had it's stances on social behavior. Hey.. it's perfectly OK for witches to break rules because of love, but now.. it's not OK because we have a sister who isn't good for the show because people think it's an LGBTQ shout out?
I for one, look forward to seeing where they take the show.. and it will only stand on it's own, if it doesn't share everything from the original series.
