Shanghai (2012)
8/10
Tarantino, step aside; we have DB!
8 June 2012
Dibakar Banerjee, Abhay Deol and Emraan Hashmi. There cannot be any better reason to watch this movie and well, it's worth the expectations. Shanghai, the Desi adaption of Z by Vassilis Vassilikos is a fine thriller.

First things first, you can feel the Dibakar Banerjee style in each and every frame of this around two hour movie. In first ten minutes itself, the culprits are revealed and there is no whodunit feeling in first half, but thanks to brilliantly panned screenplay (courtesy Urmi Juvekar and DB), the tension builds on in a continuum till the climax and climax pays it off.

The power of Shanghai lies in its characters and subplots. Director leaves much upon the imagination of viewers but, still it is amazing to witness such a powerful cinema with a short and simple story. Abhay, Emraan and Kalki play their milestone characters and they play with such an ease that it is impossible to picture any actors in their shoes. Prosenjit Chatterjee, though plays a cameo, makes his presence felt throughout the movie, which is incredible.

Shanghai could have been a loud political thriller with grungy background score and over the top acting, but DB chooses the path less traveled. Like his last three films he chooses his own subtle and proportionately dramatic storytelling that makes it a standalone from clichéd and crass political thrillers. In order to keep the intensity of such a mature subject, Dibakar has deliberately avoided soulful songs like Khudaya and Dua, and placed situational tracks like Bharat Mata Ki and Imported Kamariya, which is a courageous effort.

The negatives? First half takes a bit more of time to create the situations and subplots making the movie a bit drag occasionally. Apart from this, I can't find out any other loopholes in this movie.

Watch it or not? If you are a fan of "the real powerful cinema", do go for it.

Agent Vinod (2012)

Shriram is India's Tarantino and AV is India's answer to Hollywood!
23 March 2012
First things first, is this movie an Indian answer to Bourne series or Bond series? Hell, yeah!

I frankly don't realize why many the so called critics are criticizing this flick, but neither they, nor do I have the ability to judge the director Mr. Raghavan ( I feel like writing a whole article on his style of direction).

The only backdrop of this movie was the Bollywood touch given to the flick considering the mass appeal (a couple of unwanted songs, and a couple of illogical scenes like pre-climax one). Minus them, this movie is a reference source for aspiring directors.

Saif is a star and he plays his layered character with an astonishing ease! The protagonist is a complex man; he is tough, cunning, flirt and funny. Kareena's character on the other hand was a bit undeveloped but still Kareena carries herself well on the screen.

A kick-start opening, a sudden interval and an unusual end; the movie is a real thriller. Dialogues are just perfect; never get too melodramatic or heroic.

Many people are complaining about the complex narrative that the director has chosen to represent a relatively simple plot. If the narrative had not been complex, film would have got boring, but due to the complex narrative (which I personally did not find complex), the film remains interesting from start to end.

The songs, which are otherwise okay, sounds good in the film (especially title track). Background score by Daniel B George is peppy; the retro feel at places makes the movie entertaining.

What's more? Brilliant performances, Stylized (in true means, unlike some movies which declare themselves stylish) action sequences, razor sharp editing and super paced screenplay.

Sriram Raghavan is Indian Tarantino! Full marks for direction.

Final Verdict: I can have a word of mouth with those critic who rate Don 2 the ultimate thriller and rate Ra One almost perfect; this movie, for god's sake, is the real action thriller deal.

Gautam Menon, you have just lost a loyal fan of yours!
17 February 2012
First of all, I heartily apologize to all the people (my friends, colleagues and blog mates) for seriously recommending you the movie; I did it just because I thought (like every Tollywood fan) that the movie is a remake of Tamil super hit "Vinnaaithandi Vaaruvaayaa". To my utter disappointment, the movie is actually remake of Telugu semi hit "Ye Maaya Chesaave".

To all those who have no idea about VTV or YMC, let me clear the clouds. Gautam Menon directed VTV (Vinnaithandi Varuvaayaa), starring Silambarasan and Trisha. The movie due to its unusual climax is considered to be a classic love story. Next, Gautam directed the same movie in Telugu language with Nag Chaitanya (on recommendation by his father Nagarjuna) and Samantha, with exactly opposite ending than the Tamil one. YMC received an average response from public as well as critics.

Now, Gautam Menon has selected the conventional climax of Ye Maaya Chesaave, rather than VTV, and that is what will make this film a sure deserved flop! I personally did not like YMC at all, and this Hindi movie is actually a remake of YMC! I am feeling cheated Mr. Menon!

It takes a lifetime of a filmmaker to deliver a masterpiece movie. But if the filmmaker himself doesn't cherish about it, then it seems that the movie was a masterpiece rather by fluke.

I am not even interested to review this movie further, but I will do it just for the sake of formality.

Cast: Prateik Babbar excels as Sachin, the lesser said about Ammy Jackson is better. Manu Rishi is noteworthy.

Story And Screenplay: Nothing new in "this" version of movie and the screenplay is extremely weak with no subplots and overdose of songs.

Editing And Cinematography: Editing is poor, cinematography is first rate.

Music And Background Score: I chose not to review EDT's music as I can't move on from VTV and YMC's music. Background Score is remastered and is brilliant.

Direction: Sorry Mr. Menon, you have just lost a loyal fan!

Verdict:Please avoid this film.Period.

Agneepath (2012)
7/10
Agneepath, Agneepath, Agneepath!
26 January 2012
Agneepath (1990) to begin with, is remembered majorly for Mr Amitabh Bachchan as Vijay Deenanath Chauhan. Agneepath (2012), however, will be remembered for Sanjay Datt as Kancha Cheena and Rishi Kapoor as Rauf Lala.

First half of movie, is racy, compelling and entertaining equally, thanks to brilliantly shot sequences, tight screenplay, heart-throbbing background score and power packed performances. Sanjay Datt excels throughout the movie, this is probably his milestone performance. Rishi Kapoor on the other hand, after showing brilliance in Do Dooni Chaar, again proves that a star remains a star! How about Hrithik?

Hrithik chooses expressions rather than words. He may not have mass - appealing dialogues but his expressions works like wonder! If you compare Hrithik directly with Amitabh Bachchan, he has, still, done a commendable job.

So where this movie lags? Post interval. Movie misses the thrill that it creates prior to interval, slows down its pace to focus on sub plots, which rather adds melodrama that is unneeded. Film seems dragged a bit too. Story, predictable and yet entertaining, somewhere challenges your logic. Climax, which seems to be written for justifying Sanjay's role, is not grand.

Music is good, background score is really thrilling.

Overall, a deserved watch for sure, but somehow keeps you longing for more.

Aazaan (2011)

Things are quite simple : Best Cinematography, Best Background Score; Worst Acting, Worst Screenplay!
14 October 2011
Azaan is an attempt to make a spy action thriller of Hollywood echelon and makers have partly succeeded in their job. The movie is shot exotically, and seems polished but misses out the real thrill element of an action thriller. Thanks to very poor screenplay, a viewer is never connected with the movie, and thus enjoys this stylish odyssey at a superficial level only.

Sachin Joshi isn't apt choice for this movie. The actor, who is also the producer of the movie, is unfortunately, a big letdown. If he would have casted some veteran actor of Bollywood and invested good amount in publicity and marketing, and the movie would have turned a money making machine for him.

Unfortunately, one of the most expensive movies of Bollywood (precisely 180 crores) will flop without notice of the people.

I can easily summarize my experience of Azaan as follows.

Good: Cinematography (arguably, the best that Bollywood has even seen) Background Score (Undoubtedly, the best that Bollywood has heard this year till date) Novel theme (biological warfare and undercover agent concept)

Bad: Sachin Joshi's performance (and strictly okay performances from veterans like Dilip Tahil and Sajid Hassan due to scare scope) Scattered screenplay (probably the worst one for such a tight-edited movie)

Nevertheless, I will watch this movie again, just to hear the background score by Salim – Sulaiman.

Soundtrack (I) (2011)
8/10
Highly recommended!
9 October 2011
In recent times, Bollywood has witnessed many melodramatic remakes (most of them, remade from South Indian movies). Soundtrack, though a remake of Canadian movie It's all Gone Pete Tong (officially mentioned in the end credits of the movie), is thankfully not over-the-top.

Rajeev Khandelwal as Raunak Kaul is just marvelous. He is thoroughly in sync with his character and he has proved his versatility with this movie. He transits well from a DJ hunk to a deaf musician. Mrinalini Sharma is unbelievably hot. Soha Ali Khan acts well (yes, you read it right). Both the ladies represent contradictions in Rajeev's character. Mrinalini makes you go high in first half and Soha makes you feel dry in second.

Soundtrack, has very good music but the background score of the movie sounds a bit pale. Two songs, Naina Lagey and Banao are placed wrongly in background score, which can't be digested in a musical drama. The "Johnny Joker" element added to make it a bit artistic movie, is appreciative, but not needed.

Camera works is fancy. Cinematography is brilliant.Dialogues are fresh, crisp and hap devoid of any melodrama, which is commendable. Direction is good, not excellent.

The movie could have been narrated in a heroic way but the director chooses a subtle and documentary kind(not to misinterpret as a mediocre way) of narration giving it an artistic touch rather than commercial appeal.

Don't trust the reviewers that rate Bodyguard as first class, and do go for this movie. You won't be disappointed.

If one can go for bodyguard due to Salman, one can also go for MBKD due to Katrina
9 September 2011
The director Ali Abbas Zafar (has no connection with Ali Zafar) works upon the common Bollywood formula of a love triangle but sadly, the movie fails to maintain a balance between love and humor quotient.

The movie sparkles for about first half an hour, and as a viewer, you feel delighted. But gradually, the movie centers to the same old story with some added Masala in it.

The messed up screenplay and ordinary performances are something to blame a big time. There are unnecessary comic scenes and over-the-top performances, due to which, the movie fails to create an emotional under current.

The movie has many references of Bollywood movies (or say spoof), which somehow keeps you glued on the seat. But the main thing in a rom-com, the flavor of romance is missing here.

The songs, in fact boosted the movie, which was supposed to be the role of screenplay writer.

Imran Khan is as usual in the role of a chocolate boy, and his sweet image does trick for him. Katrina Kaif looks uncomfortable on the screen, she tries too hard to fit in her character and she somehow, fails to do so. Ali Zafar (though in a small role) has delivered a brilliant performance again. I want to see him more often. Tina D'Sousa is remarkable.

Some scenes like the Chat show scene and Dabbang spoof are genuinely funny and scenes like Katrina's confession about love to Imran are touchy.

Ali A. Zafar as a director has done a good job but Ali A. Zafar as a screenplay writer has a long way to go.

Bodyguard (I) (2011)

A love story which happens to be a masala movie.
1 September 2011
After Dabbang and Ready, this film is going to be third consecutive feather in Salman's cap.

I felt a little disappointed with the treatment of the movie. The screenplay rushed at an odd pace. The first half was intriguing and speedy, but the second half stammers a bit. Again, in the last 20 minutes, we see a hurricane of emotions.

The movie has all the proportionate elements of a Masala Movie, but I seriously felt a letdown in the humor quotient of the movie. The so- called "Tsunami Singh" was a high disappointment, rather than him, his T Shirts looked funny. The dialogues were above average.

A die-hard Salman fan might get disappointed, but it was a pleasure seeing Salman in a romantic movie; that too; was totally unexpected. Music boosted the movie, due to which, the faulty screenplay gets sidelined.

Salman Khan is in top notch here. Kareena is back in the form. Mahesh Manjrekar, Aditya Pancholi, Raj Babbar are remarkable. Rajat Rawail as Tsunami is a letdown. He acts well sans comic timing.

Editing by Sanjay Sankla is good, he manages to keep the movie on track in spite of futile screenplay. Cinematography by Sejal Shah is marvelous.

Himesh Reshammiya has lived up to the expectations from the fans. Background score from Sandeep Shirodkar is top class.

After watching this one, my recent favorites from Salman goes in the following order. 1. Dabbang 2. Bodyguard 3. Wanted 4. Ready

Finally, watch it! Even if you are not a Salman Khan fan, you wont regret watching this one.

A candy floss cinema for a perfect weekend.
4 August 2011
TANU WEDS MANU is a feel good movie with its own pros and flaws.

The movie starts off well with a typical start like a rom com movie added a Punjabi funk and flavor to it.

The film manages to hook you with its sheer atmospherics. The director creates an extremely busy and colorful canvas brimming with characters who are anything but cardboard cut-outs.

If Madhavan fleshes out a heart-tugging, oh-so-lonely and acutely Desi NRI, winning you over with his shy smiles and well-mannered chutzpah, then Kangna Ranaut's wild cat rebel is endearing too.The feel good attitude of the film is what it makes a worth watch.

The story by Himashu Sharma is good but nothing new.The factor that keeps you engaged is the unpredictability.Dialogues are catchy and witty at the same time.Good score here. But the screenplay is okay.

The editing by Hemal Kothari is lousy. The film could have been tightened post interval. The ups and downs in the rom com could have been elaborated slightly better.Kangna's transformation from wild cat to Susy etches.Cinematography by Chitranjan Das is good.

Music is a complete surprise. Debutant Krsna takes a good start here. Background score is good and it complements the movie.

Aanand L. Rai after a good start with "Strangers" looks promising here.He has managed well to differentiate an ordinary rom com with this one.

TANU WEDS MANU deserves to be a different cinema in its genre due to directions.Minus few Hiccups in story section, the director has managed well the overall flow of the movie.

A gem that will be cherished in my mind for a long time, Thanks Stanley!
4 August 2011
The film as its subtitle says is a small film with a big heart. It is the true family entertainer. A kind of film that school kids should see to find themselves on the screen and grown ups should see for nostalgic feeling of school days.

The film, according to me is a gem because it doesn't try to be extra - ordinary or path breaking. The film remains simple, realistic and naive. The film is just like a new born baby.No lime lights or publicity stunts were done to promote the film and thats why I love it even more.

The director "Amole Gupte" (deserves the respect I have for him) has his own good story to tell which is funny (or witty) but really impulses you in the end when a simple message is conveyed in the most beautiful way!

Beautiful is the word to describe the performances. The kiddo is already a star.Amole Gupte has proved it once again that he is in the same league of Naseeruddin Shah or Irfan Khan, and he has his own place in the heart of Bollywood.

Story is simple yet touchy.Looks as if all the emotions of a school kid are portrayed beautifully on a celluloid.Screenplay is strong and never distracts us from the main track despite of many strong sub plots.

Music is very good and suits the movie. Background score thumps the movie and helps in making it a heartthrob movie.

The film deserves a 5* but it would be a quite heavy tag to carry for a simple and innocent movie.A gracious 4.5* will be suitable. But above all, this film should not be missed at any condition!

I am glad that the movie is not Taare Zameen Par kind of film. Here is no dirty game of snatching credits and above all, no stars try to super- impose over each other ( yes main stream actors like Amole Gupte and Divya Datta are present).

The film will be cherished in my mind for a long time, Thanks Stanley!

Have a puff darling, the movie will blow you!
4 August 2011
There was so much of antagonistic vibes about the movie prior to the release.People were more sort of afraid rather than reluctant to see Junior AB in the action after his utter fail "Game". Personally speaking, my mates even bullied me as a goose like die hard fan of Abhishek (Some even felt that I watched premier due to Dipeeka's number, perverts!).

Let me clarify in the beginning only that a film cant work on sheer style (eg. Tashan) or sheer story (eg. Salaam - E - Ishq / Dus Kahaniyaan). A film should be okay in all the fields of cinema and brilliant in some of them. Here the movie is brilliant in direction, script and star cast.

Jr AB as cop, Rana as DJ, Pratiek-Anaitha as teen lover all are perfect.Bipasha lacks edge.Aditya Pancholi is good.Rest are okay.

Screenplay is good. Dialogues are crisp and witty at the same time entertaining.

Cinematography by Amit Roy is brilliant. Camera angles have never been more slick.

Music by Prittam is a mixed bag.BGM by MIDIval Punditz is mind blowing. Almost Rahmanic! (They are Telefon Tel Aviv for Indians!)

A very well directed movie by Rohan Sippy. Full of style and sensibility. This is the third consecutive film of his with Jr AB (Kuch Naa Kaho and Bluffmaster) and the co ordination is clearly visible.

So take a puff darling and enjoy this stylish flick!

Goa was never so splendorous! Looked as if I was watching Rio De Janeiro. By the time when movie ends, you are smiling.

F.A.L.T.U (2011)

NOT a FALTU movie!
4 August 2011
F.A.L.T.U. as obvious from the promos is very much inspired by Accepted (2006, I remember the movie tickled my funny bones). The movie marks the debut of Remo as a bollywood director.(He has a Bengali film in his bag as director).I had quite low expectations from the movie though the music was awesome.

But I must say i under rated Remo. The movie is total-fun. The first half of the movie is as smooth as the original one. Funny dialogues, rich cinematography and sizzling star cast (yes the actress is charmer).

The problem starts in the second half. The movie loses its pace here.Screenplay gets quirky. Some meaningless melodrama here and some unwanted sequences(the film could have been tighter by 10 minutes).

By the mid of second half I thought that the attempt is not honest. The sudden transformation of genre from comedy to drama is a bit jerky. But all this complains came to an end as soon as the climax arrived( thanks to the ace choreography by Remo, something world class!). In last 10 minutes you feel that the effort by Remo is honest and honest enough to overtake the original movie. You cant manage but smile in the end when you leave the theater.

Not to forget the tremendous audience response at the theaters(commendable as the world cup fever is on). If the world cup trivia and more hyped (GAME) was not the hurdle, the movie would have been a super hit for sure.Lets see how far it can go now.

Frankly the concept(though copied) is better than 3 Idiots (I personally find the movie over ratted). One should see it for sure.

Almost Flawless!
4 August 2011
Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi is a hard - hitting saga of love, politics, rebellion youths. Rebellion for life , love and country. The movie challenges you to handle all of it in a span of two hours. And believe me, after two hours you feel something worth of your good time.

The theme of movie is very clear and apt to the title. And the title , for which i would rate it a perfect ten is an adaption from Ghalib's couplet.

Shiny Ahuja is apt here making balances from underplaying role as a lover and an aggressive businessman.Kay Kay Menon is in top form here. The actress Chitrangadha Singh is the modern Smita Patil in true sense.

Ram Kapoor,Saurabh Shukla,Dibyendu Bhattacharya and Yashpal Sharma are notable.

The story by Sudhir Mishra,Ruchi Narain and Shiv Kumar Subramaniam is a sheer gem.To include so many sub-plots one needs to be a prolific writer. And the writer's desk is of top notch here.Even the plot of the movie is so powerful and appealing itself.

The editing by Catherine D'Hoir(who is good at sound department in Hollywood) is tight and strong. The film is engaging right from the beginning till the end.Cinematography is a pleasure. Contrasts of urban and rural India are well shot.

Probably the only area where the film drops back.Apart from classical songs like Man Baawra and Baawraa Man Shantanu Moitra fails to captivate ears. Background Score is okay.

The movie is surely one of the best we have ever seen from Sudhir Mishra's bag.

Haunted - 3D (2011)
5/10
Did not haunt me.
4 August 2011
Let me clarify in the beginning itself, the movie is a disaster. After all 3 D gimmicks and many more publicity stunts, the film is nothing more than a headache.

Performance from the lead looks wooden.Tia (or Twinkle or whatever) is a little better than Mimoh (or Mahakshay or whatever).Story and screenplay (the only good thing) is adapted from the English movie 'The Entity'.

Yes there are some good shots as well.Like the one in which a dead caretaker character wreaks much havoc like leaping out of a forest to attack the protagonists, and walking sideways down a tree to scare them. But rather than that, horror looks like the slapstick comedy.

3D effect is observant in some scenes only and so there was no need to make it in 3D!

The otherwise good songs creates an irritation in the movie. You cant expect some dance sequence before the climax scene of the movie.

The movie is a one time watch in 3D and strictly avoidable in 2D.

Ragini MMS (2011)
7/10
Horror Sex aur Dhokha
4 August 2011
To begin with, I am a little disappointed with Ragini MMS in terms of originality. The film has a little resemblance with paranormal activity (as it was seen in movie trailer). However makers have added the Desi spices to the movie by some Indianized dialogues (or say abuses) and strong story and sub-plots.

The genre of the movie is a winner itself. The combination of sex and horror (which was used indirectly in Bhatt's movies is the stream line here). Intentions of the film makers are very clear here.Just two elements horror and sex, no melodrama or Bollywood masala.

Rajpal is very influential on screen. His screen presence and comic timing is bang on!Kainaz has improved a lot after her bubbly role in Wake Up Sid.Explicit scenes are done comfortably by the lead and their chemistry is extra ordinary.

Story is straight without any twists and turns.Screenplay is tight and tangling.Dialouges are surprisingly fresh, witty and sultry. The dialogues (and slang) gives a good flavor to the horror movie.

Background score is a mile stone for horror movies considering the fact that high pitched digital sound and scorching guitars are used for score in an Indian horror movie.

Minus some originality and faulty editing, the movie is the scariest date movie of India till date.

I will definitely not have Luv ka the end!
4 August 2011
The first film by youth dept. of Yashraj film "yfilms" is in a way youthful. But the film is a half baked attempt at anti-romantic comedy.

The film has a clear plot in the story. But again, it is not unique. It is an adaption from "John Tucker Must Die" but the film is never so fresh or so funny like the original.

This is the directorial debut of the Roadies director "Bumpy". But sadly, he has not that spark to create an interesting movie as he did in the case of Roadies.

Movie at times looks like some American weekly soap being telecast irrespective of its poor humor quotient and much needed style statement in a youth film.

Shraddha Kapoor again fits into her shoes after Teen Patti. But yet she has a long way to go. Taha Shaah and rests are okay.Shehnaz Treasurywala is good.

Editing is poor. Cinematography is okay. Not much to talk about these aspects.

Music is good and peppy. Background score is okay. The Mutton song is unconventionally funny.

If you like some High School Musical kind of series or some American daily soap trying to be cool or funny, you will love this. But overall the movie is strictly a one time watch for rom-com lovers and an avoidable stuff for the rest.

Chalo Dilli (2011)
6/10
A descent entertainer from the start till the end.
2 August 2011
This is the first venture of Lara Dutta as a producer (She looks dead- drop gorgeous in the movie).

The so called road movie is inspired from many English flicks like "Changing Lanes" and many more. So the movie, frankly is not original unlike the last venture of director Dasvidaniya.

This is a kind of movie which is better to be enjoyed on weekends on DVD players.A good entertainer with its own loop holes (and huge loop holes).

The best thing about the movie is its star cast.Vinay is witty and Lara is a chick!Cameo by a superstar is good!

The movie fails to focus on any one track and keeps on struggling to catch your attention. Film starts well but falls flat by the interval and is never picked up.The humor quotient much needed for a road movie is less.

Editing is poor. Cinematography is brilliant. Nikos Andritsakis has successfully captured spices of Rajasthan and Delhi.

Challo Dilli never tries to be out of the box or extravagant. The movie remains a descent entertainer from the start till the end.

Overall an above average movie.

A ride full of fun and thrill.
2 August 2011
The movie is a cock-tale of three stories simultaneously taking place in Mumbai within the span of 11 days of Ganesh Chaturthi. The narration consists of three different class and tastes having different background struggling in one or the other way to get a place in the heart of India.

Let me mention one name first of all, Pitobash Tripathy. I remember him right from the 3 Idiots. I knew the man has got the talent and he has accorded himself very well in the character. He brings in the gags in each and every scene he is featured.

The film has got one of the strongest end credits and all thanks to the brilliant scene in the end credit.

Rensil has a descent debut and is same with Preeti Desai.

Stories, though simple, are well narrated. Screenplay is engaging.Writing team comprising Raj Nidimoru, Krishna D.K., Sita Menon has done a good job.

Editing is good. The track fails to show the third story connecting with the other two in the end. Tusshaar Kapoor's track could have been chopped a little.

Music is unconventional. All songs are used in the background score which boosts the movie in a positive way.

In the end, this "Shor" is a must watch!

Ready (2011)

Ready Ft. Salman As Indian Rajnikant and I love it!
2 August 2011
Ready is a baby of two showmen, Salman and Anees Bazmi. The movie has all Anees Bazmi elements like slap stick jokes (sometimes PJ), vibrant colors, great locations and song picturesqueness. And the movie has all Salman Khan elements like his typical dancing style, dialogue delivery, and comic timing.

The movie is well supported by efficient star cast (Paresh Rawal's chemistry with Salman is more appealing than Asin and Salman).Regular dose of songs and humor helps to scroll down the movie in a smooth way. No doubt, first half is clumsy, but film picks up the pace in the second half. And as soon as the movie ends, a Salman Khan fan is sure to get a good smile.

Such movies are never meant to be logical or extraordinary, so wasting your time in observing loop holes in the movie is no smart thing.

Cameos by many stars are totally successful in making Ready an another extravagant movie.

If you love Salman, you will love Ready. If you want to enjoy some popcorn and candy floss along with friends for a weekend, Ready is ready for you.

Singham roars!!
25 July 2011
"Ajay Devgn , Prakash Raj, Rohit Shetty, Aave Singham, Kajal Aggarwal, Majja Satkeli, Gotya…" These are some phrases that keep rolling onto your mind as soon as you leave the theater. While you are inside the theater, movie never gives you a chance to halt for a second; it's a helluva fun ride.

Say it a Masala Movie, Family Entertainer, Paisa Vasool Movie or South Indian remake, I absolutely love this movie. I saw the portrayal of Pure India, Young India and Beautiful India in this movie unlike some movies which tend to show harsh realities and stuff.

Ajay Devgn ( People say Salman is a Mass Actor, But I have never seen people in PVR Cinema cheering and clapping so much in any Salman Khan movie like they did for Singham ). He is undoubtedly a Hero. And Singham is all about his heroic portrayal done brilliantly by Rohit Shetty. Prakash Raj is one of the best (apart from remakes) that we have imported from Tollywood. He is a perfect goon, the tag which I would give to Amrish Puri or Amjad Khan or Prem Chopra.

Direction by Rohit Shetty is awesome! Cinematography by Dudely is breezy and spirited (thanks to brilliantly shot action sequences.Who cares even if it is larger than life!) Screenplay by Yunus Sajawal is zippy. If these aspects would not have been better, than movie would have been high on style and low on content; which I am glad is not the case with Singham.

Bunch of Marathi Actors and Kajal Aggarwal are takeaways too. The later looks as sweet as candy floss. Background Score (mostly made up from its title track) is up roaring and plays a major role behind Singham's coolness.

The movie is made to make you feel good. And does it? Hell yeah!!

vagabond of emotions;this road movie is a trip to remember

"Seize the day", is the whole and soul of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. I was actually quite low on expectations with this movie. But this movie has turned out to be a vagabond of friendship, love, adventure, emotions and above all, LIFE.

I always believed that Farhan Akhtar is a good showman. Right from Rock On!!, Luck By Chance and the duh Kartik Calling Kartik. But this movie has proved it that he has all the elements that are needed in an actor. He can dance, can cry (can sing of course) and now, he can make you laugh. Abhay – Farhan – Hrithik are the three mesquiteers.

Zoya Akhtar is one more reason to watch this movie. The way she directed Luck By Chance was not all serendipitous, and she has proved it. ZNMD is all her baby. The male bonding penned and filmed by her is pleasant.

The Spanish locations are exotic. Dialogues (By Farhan Akhtar) are real and spontaneous. Movie runs with its own good slow pace, which is very much needed for the road movies.

Many scenes halt the heart and literally put you on an adventure mode.

Movie would have been a way better if songs were good. Editing needed a bit more stitch. I have no complaints regarding the length of the movie, as I can watch this Spanish odyssey for more than two hours with a tub of pop corn and a coke.

Overall, this road movie is a trip to remember.

Murder 2 (2011)
7/10
Edgy, chilling and spicy
9 July 2011
Murder 1 was inspired from "Unfaithful" and now this one, from "Chaser", It's awful to see Mahesh Bhatt replicating the English movies.

Now, talking about the movie, the makers have chosen a very smart way of banking the brand "Murder". The sequel is not at all the sequel. Nothing apart from the makers are same in this movie. But in order to create some hype and sensation, screenplay and story are hampered and unnecessary sex scenes are mixed in an uncanny way.

Emraan Hashmi and Prashant Narayan (I loved him in Yeh Saali Zindagi) were just splendid! Jacqueline is supposed to be the eye candy and she does it well. She adds more spice than Mallika Sherawat.

Music is a plus point of the movie. Aye Khuda is shot in a brilliant way (Mohit Suri did the same thing in Awarapan). Haal – E – Dil sounds good too. Background score by Raju Singh is okay.

The fault with the movie is in its screenplay. Due to the urge to mix up erotica with thriller, Shagufta Rafique messes with the flow of the movie. Dialogues are crisp. The actions and visuals were dark and intense, apt to the theme.

Overall, Mohit Suri had his heart and mind on the correct track while making the movie, but if the story and screenplay were better (or should I say logical); the movie would have worked wonders. A worth watch anyways!

Shaitan (2011)

New age cinema
10 June 2011
The movie as I guessed earlier, is a revamped version of Anurag Kashyap directorial debut (which is still in the claws of Indian Censor Board) "Paanch" starring Kay Kay Menon. And now after almost a decade of his first yet unreleased movie, Anurag Kashyap producing this movie and getting it through the censor board without any cuts is a good slam to the Indian Censor Board. Clearly the movie is more intense and dark than Paanch. The movie is a way more profane with mild to severe abuses, implicit sex and nudity, and explicit violent scenes. And yet the movie has passed without a cut (showing a fact that censorship has improved a lot).

The movie is almost perfect on cinematic aspects. Casting and Direction is flawless.Cinematography is something best I have seen so far. Every scene is shot in the ultra stylish way leading to a brilliant story telling.Music and background score adds a new dimension to the movie.

First half of the movie is extremely engaging and entertaining, the second half lacks a bit by predictable turns and twists.

All the subplots of the movie like their characters are very strong take it as subtle love story of Rajeev Khandelwal (So graceful on the screen) or the one with Amy's mother, every character has its own story to tell and they tell it in their own ultra stylish way.

The "Shubhu" cameo (By someone who has done commendable job in AK's last produced movie) and Nikhil Chinnapa add the surprise factor to the movie.

Yet again a brilliant piece of cinema by Anurag Kashyap Production and kudos to Bijoy Nambiar.
