Blood Out (2011)
Not an awful action movie.
After reading through the reviews I was in 2 minds about whether to even bother with this film. However, although I wasn't blown away by this film I wasn't completely bored either.
Luke Goss didn't do an awful job at playing a bereaved brother who wanted revenge and his fight scenes were pretty good despite the fact he wasn't particularly muscular. Vinnie Jones is as you would expect, a foul mouthed heartless crook which fitted nicely with the storyline. I was very surprised to see AnnaLynne McCord and again she played her part fairly well. Although 50 Cent seemed to get a lot of trailer screen time you only see him twice in this film.
There is nothing new about this film but all in all it isn't an awful action movie.
The Hurt Locker (2008)
If boredom was a film.
I can only assume this film got such high rating due to the fact it is a war film and nobody dare criticize that.
As far as I could tell there was no storyline and nothing really made sense, although I may have fell asleep at some point. I felt nothing for any of the characters and the only reason I can think of that they cast a little boy is for the shock factor, which wasn't shocking at all and it was pretty obvious what his fate would be from the moment you saw him. The camera work seemed amateur, and the whole thing doesn't seem true to life in the army. I tried extremely hard to see how the film won so many awards but I have drawn a complete blank.
Don't waste your time or money as you will be extremely disappointed.
Halloween (2007)
Possibly greater than the original.
I have always been a fan of the Halloween franchise and a huge fan of Rob Zombie so I had high expectations of this film and I was not disappointed.
For me, what makes this film such a success is the fact, it isn't just another mystery masked killer running around slaughtering anyone who get in his way without any real reason to do so. Rob creates a monster out of abused little boy, you understand where his anger has come from and why he is going after the people he does. I love that this film has delved into the psychological side of things, it isn't just brutal killing (although there is a lot) it shows you how a "monster" is created. Sheri Moon Zombie is brilliant, which I have to admit shocked me slightly as although I love her acting it was hard to imagine her being able to pull of such a role. She plays the heart broken mother who refuses to give up on her son even in death amazingly. If I'm honest there is not one actor in this film I can criticise.
The Experiment (2010)
Slow moving film with a rushed ending.
I am a huge fan of Forest Whitaker and given the right script he excels at playing the villain, however I do not believe that this script was right for him. The movie for me, was extremely slow moving right up until the last 15 minutes. I also felt the ending was rushed and left no explanation of why exactly this particular experiment had taken place or why it was allowed to continue so long after breaking the rules given by the scientists. This being said if you enjoy films that aren't overly thought provoking with over the top violence, you won't lose anything by watching this. For this film to rate higher for me I would have enjoyed a little more depth into the psychological meaning and exactly why certain characters personalities changed almost immediately within a prison environment. Also to have the characters backgrounds explored a little more as the only actor I really felt for was the comic geek.
