The Bleeder (2016)
The bleeder needed a band aid but didn't die because of its injuries
As a former boxer, an aficionado of boxing movies wanted to like this movie more than I did. That said, the overall story, the acting, the angle was actually very very very good. The biggest problem I had was the soundtrack trying to ground it as a period piece that too often not only overshadowed the actors but worse, drowned them out. This movie was about the nuance's of Chuck Wepner's life that shaped him. That was a great build in telling a realistic story and not making the character too villainous nor too sympathetic. Basically human. Those drowned out nuances unfortunately for me diluted the potential strength the film could have provided.
The Incident (1967)
Many thumbs up
Considering the story telling approach of movies in the 60's (in my opinion, often borderline campy), this movie does not fail on its ability to deliver an escalating powerful story, superbly acted, and in large timeless. My favorite aspect however is the delivery of the understory and how's tragically/traumatically catalyzed via the auspices of two hoodlums. Tony Musante delivers an Oscar level performance, with no lessor performances by Martin Sheen in his debut role (I believe it may have been Tony's also) and superb performances from all supporting actors performing beyond believability to a point where their characters are tragically relate-able. Ranks up there as one of my all time favorites.
