Mysterious Ways (2009)
Pretty good effort, not what you think!
I nearly turned the movie off part way into it but i am glad i didn't. I don't know anything about the people who put it put but will be looking into it.
Firdt off, it had the look and feel of a first try at a Christian based, low budget movie. I dont say that in a bad way at all. This is my genre and i have watched many of all budget sizes and enjoyed most all. So if anything, this is a compliment from me.
It attempted to appeal to both those in Christian and general society genres in that the dialogue language and innuendo was not really necessary. Again, i was continually trying to work out if this was a Christian film.
This battle within my mind continued throughout the movie, especially when the intruder enters the scene. Things then get a bit dark and the ending is most unexpected, even for me.
I look forward to the next film amd to see how the team further develop their ideas and into which genre they go with. If it is the Christian genre, i think they have a good solid start.
I would love to hear from them, to see what is next etc. :)
Comfort (2016)
Refreshing!!
This hopeless romantic who also enjoys wholesome movies absolutely LOVED this story. The actors were brilliant and natural, the storyline realistic, full of heart and strength of character. The movies strongpoints were those very things most modern movies leave out....decent, real, innocent humanity and love.
I was so touched by this movie and fèlt the need to write this review and pray that those involved with the movie would see it, and consider a follow-up movie. The firm foundation is there to show how lasting relationships are built and maintained by really getting to know and understand another.
I have no pride, PLEASE write part 2!!!!
Thank you so much for such a delightful, heartfelt, loving and respectful movie!!!
The Entitled (2011)
Well done!
What happens when spoiled rich kids go to uni and make enemies? Watch and see! This movie is not a run of the mill rehash like so many put out today. This psychological thriller kept me on the edge of my seat for its entirety. It tells the story of an average young man and his family struggles. It also shows a bit behind the veil of students with low/no self esteem, as well as the effects of various social stressors such a financial difficulty, jealousy, and the effects of being a social outcast due to antisocial traits. Hence it provides a plausible explanation for the genesis of such evil acts. The plot twist is not one you will see coming! I must admit that the scary part of this movie is in its similarity to real life! Well worth the time to watch this flick.
The Grace Card (2010)
Worth a watch!
I came across this movie quite by accident, or maybe divine intervention. I say that because this movie come to me at a time where it 's message helped me. This movie may suffer in ratings as mainstream people tend to shy away from 'religious movies' as they're called. This movie does not preach. Instead it uses a good storyline to teach a valuable lesson. Mainly we learn to put things in context, and that many people out there who are mean, or horrible to others are themselves hurt. The walking wounded who become bitter and set on a path of destruction. If we can see the other person's hurt, we can understand where they are coming from and possibly meet them half way. Instead of hating them, we need to love them. The movie itself tells of the strained family relations after a devastating accident, how the even changes the family members individually and how one person't faith can indeed make a difference. It's a story about grief, growth, healing, family, and salvation. There is one part of the movie that warrants being written down and remembered; I know I did that! I am very thankful for this movie and think that like minded and open minded people will enjoy it. Happy viewing.
Uninhabited (2010)
Good effort!
I am a fan of Aussie flicks and would like to see more offerings!
This movie is set on Masthead Island in the Great Barrier Reef. A marine biologist and her boyfriend are on a 10 day holiday, on a beautiful deserted island....or so they think. Strange events begin to take place leading to a shocking discovery of a sad event. Soon the two lovebirds are not alone and their new neighbours clash. However the new neighbours don't last long.
The movie is minimalist like the Saw franchise. There are only 6 characters but that is enough. If you like homegrown flicks, then definitely give this one a go. At the very least the scenery is breath taking : ) Enjoy
The Help (2011)
Brilliant!
This movie is one that chronicles intimate relationships between children and maids. These children were raised by maids and developed a sense of right and wrong in a time where these loving replacement mothers were nothing more than servants. It's a story about a young woman raised by such a loving woman who goes against the grain to do what is right in an attempt to change the status quo. It's an act that is dangerous to all involved. There is some historical information as well as lots of laughs and some tears. This movie is deep, complex and has the ability to evoke emotion across the spectrum. We need more uplifting movies like this. I say a hearty THANK YOU to Kathryn Stockette for having the courage to write this book on which the movie was based. Well done!
Dead Wrong: How Psychiatric Drugs Can Kill Your Child (2010)
Well made story that will educate parents.
I believe the former review to be very judgmental and biased and actually attacking. At no place is there reference to religion in this film. And as someone who enjoys theology, I can say that there are numerous denominations that prefer not to use medications. With that said I shall get onto the movie.
This movie is a mother's story of losing a child after they were prescribed psychiatric medications. Suicides of individuals on such drugs have been well documented over the years. This mother is simply telling her story and trying to find out how this happened. It is an attempt at closure and at educating other parents.
As a mental health professional, I know these medications are very powerful and used inappropriately or lightly can contribute to devastating circumstances. Just because I work in this specialty does not mean I think this treatment is appropriate for everyone, including children. There are some people who indeed need these medications but this movie is not about that. It looks at children and young adults and the inappropriate assessment in various settings with and without parental permission to do so. This is pretty bad when school nurses cannot give out Tylenol/Panadol without permission!
This is a very slippery slope. Children are learning and growing. It is not fashionable to be on prescription medication as a child. This mother is saying listen to your children, and to get a second opinion and to look at other causes of behaviour such as comprehension, diet etc. All of which is well documented also.
This is a very well done documentary which educates the average person and presents avenues to take before settling on medication. I definitely recommend this movie.
