Quantum Leap: A Leap to Di for (2009)
Nice Try, but.........
You can view this film on YouTube and this is what I would recommend. The story is solid and it's always fun to see Quantum Leap back in any form, but the acting is substandard on all levels. This fan base film has some decent special effects and the heart and soul of Quantum Leap is there, but that's about it. In these hard times, save the money and watch the four parts on YouTube. If you are expecting the old series, you will be greatly disappointed. The only character that comes from the old series is Deborah Pratt who was married to the creator at the time the series was introduced. Too bad she couldn't talk him into returning for another run.
A Dirty Shame (2004)
Welcome Home John
"A Dirty Shame" is a very welcome return for John Waters to the world of the sexually weird. What has been missing since his "Pink Flamingos" / "Female Trouble" days has returned in a blazing triumph. With Mink Stole in place and Tracy Ulman leading, this film takes the viewers into a world that only John Waters could create. Having watched the NC-17 version on DVD, Waters creates the misadventures of a group of sexual fiends that are awakened by a blow to the head. It's actually sex without the sex, but you would have to see it to believe it. Watch for a cameo by the one and only David Hasselhoff. The real "Dirty Shame" is that Devine was not alive to see it (or be in it).
Narc (2002)
Worthy of more than one look...
When I first set down to watch NARC I was expecting another run of the mill good cop / bad cop film with two A-list actors doing a B film. What I got was one AAA film done with such reality that it was worth watching twice more. Ray Liota's turn as the suspected cop gone bad and Jason Patric (who more than redeems himself for such career killers as SPEED 2) as his discredited partner are both oscar worthy performances. Liota has even packed on at least another 50 pounds for his character. This film has more plot twists than a texas twister with a slam dunk ending (featuring Busta Rhymes in a role that should get him talked about even more than FINDING FORRESTER) that will leave the whole audience saying WOW.
