Incoherent, underacted and generally awful
11 November 2016
The acting in this is truly terrible, it goes back to the style of those cookie cutter direct to video productions of the 80's. Under or over emotion in all the wrong places.

This has Steven Segal all over it, poor plot line, pacing all over the place and B grade to bone. Do not go here, you will actually be a worse human at the end of this.

This is supposed to be post-government lockdown - quest for rebellion thing but it just doesn't gel at all. Writing problems in the script which led to character development problems and a basket case of a movie.

Very real, very moving

Showcases a washed out dry Perth as the backdrop for a great tale of end times. Good use of a radio announcer voice-over and well cut characters. Distinctly Australian locations and characters but conveying universal themes of family, love, redemption, societal collapse and unthinkable decisions. The child character does a really great job at the confusion, sorrow and understanding aspects of her character. Some of the crazies are a bit over done, too much crazy becomes slapstick unfortunately. I suspect the ability to convey crazy with menace rather than crazy goofy is delicately nuanced. A bit rough on the sex and violence at some points, but this is an end of the world movie about societal collapse, a bit unrealistic to think it would be Disney material. Really worth the watch.

An abomination against all that is art
4 November 2014
This is a terrible movie and everyone involved, from actors to directors should be ashamed of themselves. This movie involved people who were in Reservoir Dogs, Lethal Weapon, Kill Bill but this movie is nothing like any of these. This movie is less interesting than the credits of these movies. This movie is terrible, the acting is trash, the plot is incoherent, the props were done by the high school art class and the director was obviously drunk most of the time. There are some good actors in this movie, or rather actors who have done good work in their careers. This is not that good work. I don't know how they became involved in this, guess everyone has to pay the bills. Seriously, don't go here. It is as entertaining as a drunk in an alleyway and smells worse.

Truly terrible

I'm not sure where to begin, this is B Grade with extra B. The acting is probably the worst part but the cinematography and writing must take some of the fault. This is a lot like a high school drama production where the IT guys got roped in to provide some special effects. It's similar in theme to movies such as Constantine but as interpreted by someone who only had a couple of thousand dollars to make it and blew most of that on Danny Trejo rather than production values. Even if you like B grade schlock (which I don't) this one may be too painful to live through. I went through to the end in the vain hope there was some redemption for this but there was not. An over-long cheesy knock off of The Exorcist to open and a sputtering finish that looks like they ran out of money. Nothing worth waking up for.

Not good, just not good

The Serbian English in this makes the whole thing clumsy with the plot and dialog getting slowed down and stilted. There may have been a half decent movie in here but you just can't plow through the stilted language.

The American actors are B Grade and the Serbian actors are forcing their English. The Serbian setting is atmospheric but not enough to redeem the failure of the direction.

The sub-plot with about obsession with duty is a steaming pile of counter productive

This is not an original or even exciting production. The girls are pretty and the zombies ugly but apart from that it has very little to redeem it. Give this one a miss.

Virtuality (2009 TV Movie)

Looks and feels like a TV pilot
22 April 2011
There is a quirk in the virtual reality simulation system of a long duration space craft which seems to be attacking the crew.

This is a sci-fi with quality production values and a solid cast but it never gets where it needs to go. There is a lot of time developing the characters and scene setting but the story arc is utterly incomplete. I think some of the other reviews have mentioned that this was supposed to act as a pilot for a TV series that never got picked up and it really feels that way because nothing gets resolved. There is a bunch of questions on the table at the end but no resolution, which is immensely frustrating.

This is nice to watch and not badly acted but in the end leaves a very sour taste for the incompleteness and lack of resolution.

Not going to the Oscars with this one

A convicted felon is used as a substitute for a drug dealer by law enforcement in an attempt to trade for an undercover officer being held by a drug baron. All the clichés are there, crooked cops, clueless felon, hairy bikers, sociopath drug baron, innocent child victim, Judas friend and a bad girl seeking redemption. This one has the whole lineup.

Not particularly believable story with a plot line that does not really hang together particularly well and really lacks substance. Not a bad movie that I would ridicule people for participating in but it is definitely a straight to DVD B-Grader.

How the mighty have fallen, from the Matrix to this for Laurence Fishburne, who would have to recognize he is on the way down if he is taking on projects of this caliber.

Olivia Wilde on the other hand is stunning, although more than a little lacking in emotive range and is hopefully using this as a vehicle on the way up as she develops.

I am beginning to suspect Paul Walker only has one character in his range and I just hope he makes enough money off that before the gravy train derails.

This is worth watching but set the bar low before you start, and savor Olivia Wilde's eyes because that is about the best thing that is going to happen on screen in this piece of cinema.

Not deep but not bad
21 April 2011
A fast living city lawyer gets press ganged into being the Circuit Judge in the backwater State he originated from. This brings the opportunity to search for the killer of his family.

Not a profound or deep movie I felt there was a lot of opportunity missed in the development of some characters and situations. It seemed the director could not work out what the main point of the movie was, John Goodnight finding himself through representing law in tiny rural communities or the quest to avenge the death of his family. The result is a slightly disconnect piece where it does not run smoothly.

Lara Gilchrist puts in a respectable performance as the female lead in the second half and Luke Perry does a reasonable lead. It is a lightweight Western which will appeal to fans of the genre but probably not excite wider audiences. Worth watching but not destined to become anything beyond an unmemorable Saturday night in.

An abomination against horror and movie production in general
21 April 2011
This has got to be the worst, most disconnected, poorly edited and shockingly acted piece of cinema I have ever had the misfortune to stumble across. There may have been a plot-line but it was lost somewhere in the jarring transitions, poorly timed music and generally bad direction. I appreciate B-grade and I understand special effects on a budget but there is no excuse for this sort of thing outside high school drama class and YouTube. Do not go near this unless your purpose is to make out with the person you see it with and you don't want to miss anything worth watching. Even then it probably won't make for decent background noise.
