Elementary (2012)
Just another detective series...
This attempt at spin off of sherlock with changing characters and trying to americanize sherlock is a hit or miss in terms of its episodes at least for first three seasons. I could not go on watching it after that, as it started getting mostly predictable and Sherlock started becoming extremely insufferable. A series on sherlock holmes should have focused on his witty work as a detective and not tried to make it some sort emotional drama with inexplicable turns and twists. It started feeling like writers took too much of liberty to spin the plot in any direction they felt like.
Many episodes were predictable and boring. The wrap-ups were too short it's like 40 minutes of who done it and next one minute sherlock and Joan coming up with some weird, incoherent logic taking some story plots into inexplicable territory, and bye bye, episode over. Moriarty was another disappointment. The twist was almost expected and not even a good twist at that.
Also, last but not least, the lead character playing sherlock himself doesn't carry the same charisma as that of Benedict Cumberbatch or Robert Downey Jr. , not to mention the fact that changing John Watson to Joan Watson and James Moriarty to Jamie Moriarty was example of lazy writing. While Lucy Liu was good in her acting, the writing itself was all over the place and couldn't really develop any meaningful depth to the character itself. Jamie Moriarty was utter disappointment. Whoever came up with that idea should have been fired.
There are any number of good detective tv shows, The Mentalist, despite as bad the 6th and 7th season were, is still much better TV show than this.
A Time to Kill (1996)
Many cringe moments, bad courtroom drama
It's rather slow for a courtroom drama, many moments are there where the dialogues and scenes are downright cringy. Granted the time shown in movie was that of racial injustice, but instead of reasoning movie resorts to emotional pleas, and racial basis for arguments. There was no reason to set the lead character free for crippling a cop who had nothing to do with his daughters rape. Yet it's somehow justified in movie. The 2 stars are just for the acting by lead characters. The courtroom drama relies on emotional pleas than clever arguments. It's rather boring in its pacing too. Movie could have been 20 minutes shorter in length.
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011)
An average entertainer
I just didn't get the hype surrounding this movie when i watched it. May be the age when you watch is would have mattered, had i seen it 10 years ago it could have been a different feeling for me, watching it in 2021 in my early thirties, was rather disappointing, mainly because of higher expectation based on rave reviews. Hrithik as in many of his movie is completely artificial in his expressions and acting. Abhay deol did manage to play the role well, so did Farhan. The whole movie is about europe tourism. It's really not more than that. The supposed to be suspense can be seen from mile ahead coming your way (Farhan's father). The message of movie is to enjoy life you must go to Europe and do it as you only get one life. The characters were not relatable at all neither their background stories. In the end i was wondering is this it? People got impressed by travel vlog of europe? Anyways, seems i am in the minority , so i'll end my review here.
The Invisible Man (2020)
Run of the mill thriller
Ther were some good moments in the movie but it overall lacked the mystery factor, the pace is good, story is average, and predictability is 100%. Overall it will hold your attention if you are new to thriller genre but nothing special to garner praise.
La casa de papel (2017)
Ridiculous, comical heist, Bloated, exhausting and stretched out Drama
In a nutshell, it's an overrated series with neither good drama nor good heist. I couldn't sit through even season 1 completely. The lowered expectations of audience for a good series are clearly visible from the ridiculously high ratings for what the series offers, I went as far as episode 9 before my head started exploding with sheer boredom of drama, lack of lovable characters despite the overwhelming focus on their backstory and sheer amount of WTF moments during heist. These are robbers who are described as Pro/expert criminals who want to pull off a virtually impossible looking heist, all the while indulging in unbelievable levels of stupidity like Robbers falling in love with hostages, hostages falling in love with robbers, robbers performing surgeries, robbers committing amateur level mistakes and fooling collective intelligence of entire nation's security forces while doing this is something I cannot really find believable. There were few moments of brilliance with detailed planning but everything else going on there during heist was a juxtaposition to that brilliance. I read the detailed plot from 10th episode onwards to the end of second season and was glad i save myself some time and frustration. People who expect some logical explanation, some believable level of professionalism in a heist like this and in general expect some basic level of realism to the plot are going to be disappointed if they watch this series.
Gisaengchung (2019)
Slightly overrated movie.
I watched this movie after reading a lot of rave reviews about it, so that may have played into my impression about the movie. I think it's definitely a good movie in fact one of the memorable ones of 2019, but i still feel the praise this is garnering is slightly overrated for what it offers. The concept is nice. I don't know how the dialogues are in Korean but the English subtitle translation was average and didn't have the comic nature many times. The build up was slow but the movie picks up pace pretty quickly after that. After some shenanigans by the family, the real chaos which is at the heart of the story starts. The frantic events at the end didn't make a lot of sense. I think the end kind of soured overall impression of movie for me, for the sake of keeping review spoiler free I would not say which event exactly but you'd know when you watch it.
Another problem I found was that movie tried to be a lot than what story could have allowed it to be. Comedy thriller would be perfect description but then there are attempts at being a drama movie too and they feel less coherent to the movie... The acting was good by almost every character for the most part. Overall I would say it was a good watch and it is memorable for the uniqueness of the story.
Dear Zindagi (2016)
Good concept, poor screenplay, bad story, bad humor and overacting
To sum it up in first line, It was a loss of 2 and half hours of my life. The movie has nothing for its plot, so the heavy lifting should have been done by strong characters, good acting and engaging screenplay but you get none of that.
It's story of a girl who has relationship issues and you get to know the reason by the end of it, so it's essential for you to feel sympathy for the lead character or at least like her to the extent of caring about her issues no matter how artificial they might look on the outset, instead Aalia is shown as a completely unlikable, extremely entitled, self absorbed and arrogant girl who doesn't even have common decency. Every friend/relative of hers tolerates her rudeness for reasons that are known only to god and Gauri Shinde, instead of sympathy you feel that she deserves lot less than what world is giving her. Her overacting in many scenes doesn't help the cause either. For a change, in a long time, it wasn't Shahrukh who overacted, rather he was good in his acting.
Whatever attempted humor movie has is poor, some of the jokes are outright pathetic.
The screenplay is too long for what story has on offer and by the time it actually comes to the grand reveal of Alia's issues, you'd couldn't care less. The sheer boredom of that journey makes you wonder was it even worth to endure the movie to that point. The reason in itself is so ridiculous and superficial that it doesn't make any sense at all to justify all the bratty-ness of the lead character. People are grateful for much less from their parents than what Aalia hates her parents for. The reason is so hollow that it had me rolling my eyes. I hate to give this movie 1 star, because the concept was very nice, but that got overpowered by sheer dumbness, boredom of the screenplay and story and lackluster performance by lead character.
Captain Marvel (2019)
A generic Marvel movie
The movie is quite bland in terms of design and never really makes you care for the superhero character. Brie Larson mostly lacks emotions and acting skills to pull off swagger or show emotional side of the character. For the most powerful superhero of the marvel universe the movie never really gives any wow feels. The back story of the character isn't present at all. Overall, the movie is uninspiring and forgettable though the cat kind of proves little bit of saving grace for the movie :).

Delhi Belly (2011)
Not as great as hyped but still good to watch
It is a well directed movie. Imran khan hasn't acted well but other characters have played their part, nothing extraordinary in acting department. The humour is adult and situational. The screenplay is awesome, dialogues aren't that great. All in all, it is a good one time watch.
Ek Daav Dhobhipachhad (2008)
Thoroughly Hilarious Marathi Language movie
This is a very pleasant comedy and completely targeted towards Marathi speaking audience. Brilliant performances by Ashok Saraf, Mukta Barve, Prasad Oak, Subodh Bhave and pushkar shrotri. Timing of the comedy is great for Ashok Saraf, Pushkar Shrotri and Prasad Oak. Dada Dandke(Played by Ashok Saraf) is a goon and he has lot of respect in his town. He is never married after his break from Kishori Shahane. Kishori Shahane tries to promote education in Ashok Saraf's town with a municipal school and faces lot of rage and opposition from goons of Dada Dandke (Ashok Saraf) but when Ashok Saraf discovers that the woman who is trying to build up a municipal school is nothing but his ex-beau or lover Kishori Shahane. He then tries to win her back but she call him a goon who is still illiterate and also opposes education and asks him if he could ever be a gentleman she loved and refuses to discuss any further on their break-up. He decides to quit his illegal businesses, decides to become educated and promote education and be completely a gentleman again. But as it turns out it is not so easy for him. With all the tangles and mix of beautifully crafted comedy with good timing, the plot swiftly moves ahead and the movie is all @ the transformation and chaos created as a result of his transformation to a gentleman.
A must watch movie for any Marathi speaking person. With subtitles even non-Marathi people can watch this and still enjoy thoroughly.
