Tower Heist (2011)
A Very Entertaining Way to Pass the Time
I didn't expect too much from this movie after watching the trailer. Judging from the cast and the trailer I thought that it would be at the very least a little entertaining or just an okay movie. It is actually very entertaining and the performances from the entire cast are solid. I laughed a lot and more than I expected. It also has quite a few twists and turns which I wasn't expecting and which should keep you interested. The chemistry between Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy is very good too and they both provide a couple of very memorable scenes. If you are looking for something to pass the time this movie would be a very good choice.
Cowboys & Aliens (2011)
It's Not Bad
It's not a bad movie but I think it could have been so much better. On the whole it is entertaining. Although the story is a little thin the performances from the whole cast are solid. Having said that for a movie with Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Sam Rockwell, etc., you'd expect something that is at the very least very good. Near the end I did start to feel for the characters but I just never felt really connected to them throughout the movie. It is already two hours long but maybe it would have been better if it had been a little longer so that there would have been a little more development in the characters. At the end of the movie I felt entertained but I wanted more and felt that the movie could have given more than it did. Not a bad movie but it could have been so much better.
Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)
Not just a great superhero movie but a great movie!
Considering all the recent superhero movies have varied from bad to very good but not great I wasn't sure about this one. The cast on paper was very good but I wasn't sure if a movie set in World War 2 would be relevant in the present day. Well, Capatain Amercia: The First Avenger works and is easily one of the best movies of the year. The cast is outstanding and the story should keep you riveted. The movie has just about everything for everyone action, romance, drama, etc., which is something I think the other recent superhero movies may have lacked. Hopefully, The Avengers and the following sequels, if there are any, are just as good or better.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011)
Great Prequel!
Simply put Rise of the Planet of the Apes is a great prequel to this Planet of the Apes reboot. Great pace and the story is solid. The entire cast are solid as well including the CGI apes. I wasn't sure about the CGI apes when I first heard about it, but it is so well done that I forgot they are CGI. There was something about the original and about real actors wearing ape suits but the CGI apes definitely work and depending on how the sequels go could be even better than their original counterparts. One more thing to add, even though it is a reboot there are bits in it that pay homage to the original and fans of the original should find these enjoyable.
Dong feng po (2010)
Very inspiring and touching
I really enjoyed this film. The pace is a little slow but it's the perfect pace for this film. Nora Miao's outstanding performance is one of the many highlights of the latest work of Yan Yan Mak and Clement Cheng. Actually, strong performances can be found in each member of the entire cast. Notably, Ella Koon gives a fine performance in her first lead role in a feature film and slips in and out of her roles of Merry and Young Eva seemingly effortlessly. These performances, a strong story, a beautiful soundtrack, along with talented directors Yan Yan Mak and Clement Cheng behind the camera make for a very inspiring and touching film.
