The Last Hope (2020)
Camera Work Ruined This Film
I was prepared to give this film a go, as I don't mind a good low-budget zombie movie now and again, but I couldn't get past the horrible camera work. I can handle unintentional shakiness, but this was like it was done on purpose, and BADLY. I had to shut the film off after 5 minutes.Too bad really.
Ascension (2014)
Fake reviews abound...
Once again I feel the need to post a review for the sole purpose of trying to help offset some of the blatantly fake reviews here. Clearly some people really want to see this show become a full blown series so they can keep working.
The show is complete tripe. Not much in the way of science fiction at all... the show could easily take place on an island, a boat, or a hippie commune, it doesn't matter because it's just another episode of CSI but in SPAAAAAAAAACE!!! (SPOILER) Actually, we don't even get that!
Syfy needs to fire the chumps coming up with this kind of stuff. It reminds me of that horrible Battlestar Galactica spin-off, Caprica. Where the heck is Battlestar Galactia: Blood and Chrome?? I mean seriously, Galactica was the best thing Syfy has had since Farscape was cancelled (don't get me started) and you think THIS show is on par? REALLY?? THIS is what you pour money into?!
It makes me sad. Byby Syfy.
Exit Humanity (2011)
A movie less about zombies and more about a man's journey...
Someone mentioned in a previous review that there are over 700 zombie films out there. Well, this is one of the better ones.
To be honest the zombies are just a background element to the story. The real story is in the relationship of the characters and their interaction.
The special effects may not be top notch (I believe they only had a $300k budget), but the acting in superb. At no point was I taken out of the story by a poorly delivered line or unbelievably stupid plot device or action on the part of the characters. And, as low key as it was, even the setting was believable. I'm sure only a true Civil War enthusiast would find any fault.
Truly an entertaining film. A real rose amongst the thorns.
Zookeeper (2011)
Much better movie then a lot of reviewers give it credit...
After reading some of the unfair reviews this film has received I felt compelled to add my two cents. Yes it's a formula film, yes we've all seen it before, yes you can see the plot coming a mile away.
Honestly, I expected to hate this film... I'm not a big fan of the lead and I normally do not like these types of films, but 30 minutes in I was won over (maybe it was all the animals). This is a light-hearted family film and should be taken for what it is. If you have kids, they will absolutely love it.
The big name actors voicing the animals was a pleasant surprise and the animal animation and "acting" was very believable.
A very enjoyable film.
Tomorrow, When the War Began (2010)
Did everyone else watch a different movie?
I felt it was necessary to sign up for an IMDb account to offset the skewed reviews this film is getting... it's current 6.9 rating is baffling to say the least.
I started watching this film with an open mind. The premise wasn't original (see Red Dawn) but I like Australian films and since it got such high reviews here, it would be worth a watch. I was sadly mistaken.
It's starts off well, establishing the main characters, but quickly falls off the rails once the kids return from their camping trip. I know I'm not the target audience for this type of film, but once you get past the teens and their budding crushes/relationships, this film makes little sense. I won't get into too much detail, but even a non-military person like myself knows that the way the "invaders" take over and police the town is completely implausible and impractical. And don't get me started on using gasoline as a high explosive, which is used as a plot device not once, but twice.
When the main characters start musing on the current situation and how their lives were before the "war" (an hour or two after returning to town no less), it comes across as wooden and silly. Maybe if I was a 14 year old girl I'd be more forgiving, but I'm not.
To top it all off, the movies doesn't have an ending. There's no satisfying conclusion to the story and it's blatantly clear they want to start a franchise with many sequels, which hopefully will never be made.
An awful, awful film
Red Dawn did it much better.
