Ginî piggu 2: Chiniku no hana (1985)
Revolting and Terrifying
Me being the gore hound I am, I've been on a quest to find the goriest movies for years. Through my path, I have found great films, and utter s**t.
I just came across this film the other day actually. I've heard many things about the guinea pig movies. I always remember hearing that Flower of Flesh and Blood was the most extreme of them.
So, the movie begins with a woman walking in the streets at night. A car follows her, and a man with a shogun helmet captures her. He takes her to his place, and dismembers her completely, and adds her remains to his collection.
Doesn't sound that original, I know. There's more. The guy who does all of these atrocious acts looks at dismembering the women as blossoming flowers. So, he looks at his victims as pieces of art to add to his collection. Plus, when he is going through the procedure, he updates the viewers on what is going on and what shall come of the act he shall perform.
Besides a neat twist on a simple concept, the special effects and sheer brutality of it all is stomach turning. This is the first gory movie to actually make me feel a little sick to my stomach. It all looks so incredibly realistic.
If you are in search of a movie that will terrify you, disgust you, and leave you speechless at the end, pick this movie up. You can pick up the guinea pig anthology at best buy.
Curse of the Forty-Niner (2002)
One of those horror movies that is so horrible it's hilarious
Seeing the cover of this before I watched it, my expectations weren't high, especially since it was amongst those other crappy horror movies at blockbuster (alongside films like Junior).
Alright, not only does this movie have the brainless stereotypical characters (the rich douche bag, the bitch, the sheriff, the localer that knows what's going wrong in the town, and so forth), but has such god-awful dialogue, acting, directing, and cg effects. The Jeremiah Stone dude was hilarious. (*SPOILER*) I'll never understand why he bit his finger off out of nowhere when he was holding that chick up hostage.
The premise for the movie is just as atrocious as the other flaws. From what I could get from it, Jeremiah Stone was a gold digger during the Gold Rush, and a notorious outlaw. He had a crapload of gold, (*SPOILER*) and put a curse on anyone who went after his gold before he was gunned down by the locals after he killed some girl, but not only did he survive, he bit off his own finger and ran off. So, present day, a group of clueless morons find out about this gold mine, and of course, they are warned by locals about "The Curse of the Forty-Niner". And what do they do? As expected, ignored the warnings and greedily sought for the gold. They get the gold, and all sorts of s**t goes on. Thankfully, (*SPOILER*) the bitch gets her head cut off.
That's about it. Looking at the cover of the film, you can tell what kind of movie it's going to be. It's just so terrible it's hilarious.
1 1/2 stars out of 5.
The Fly (1986)
A Crowning Achievement
Canada's own Horror/Sci-Fi Revolutionary, David Cronenberg, concocted what would be his crowning achievement, The Fly. It revolves around Seth Brundle(Jeff Goldblum), a scientist who has created a teleportation pod that would "change the world". Seth shows his invention to Veronica Quaife(Geena Davis), a woman he falls in love with. The teleportation device would only transport materials, and make a mess of the molecular construction of an organism. Seth finally acheived success with using a human subject. However, there was a slight flaw. A fly had gotten in the teleportation pod along Seth, thus fusing the two. Seth eventually shows his demise as he starts to gain more insect characteristics, and poor Veronica has to deal with all of this. Regardless, her love still remains. The movie ends in a real tear-jerker. Compelling story, character development, directing, and special effects. My Rating- 9.2 / 10.
