Coming 2 America (2021)
Selfaware but not quite there.
I came into the film expecting to suck. Heck even the movie itself joked about how bad sequels are. I found it ironic, very selfaware at that point.
The biggest issue with the film is the writing it feels nothing like the original too much in your face humor too much slapstick. It's more akin to the latest Ghostbusters scenario. It is definitely hard to write a sequel.
What the film got right was the homage to the original cast. I was very much impressed with the patience and dedication to deliver that package.
Let me discuss the original for a quick moment the jokes in the original were "slap stick-ish" but they had weight that carried the plot. Either tying to the character or acted as setup for a follow joke. Even Adam Sandler films have setups. His movies aren't great but they are a proven formula. The most important thing about comedy is acheiving silly yet cerebral. This movie completely missed the target.
Why did it miss the target? It had some of the best comedic professionals ever! The beginning was probably the best written part and as it progressed just got muddied with weird out of place cartoonish characters and by the time it acheived any feelings it was too stupid to care about.
Writing = Bad
Acting = Superb
Cinematography = Okay
Set Design = Great
5.5 / 10
The Mandalorian: Chapter 14: The Tragedy (2020)
Came off cliche and looked ameteur.
Every show has it's pitfalls I think is probably the worst episode in the season. The way the cinematography panned out and the plot holes. It just felt unnatural. Definitely the worst of the rest.
Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors (2018)
Starts out good, gets boring quick.
Like if it was just about Squirrel Girl and Ms Marvel it would've been great. Seems like all of the male characters lacked character or dimension. The confrontation that happens in the story feels like it's written by a couple of teenagers with no veteran experience. But beginning was great!
Batwoman: Pilot (2019)
Very very very bad way to start a show.
You do not put flash backs in a pilot. You do not show all of your plot cards in the pilot. You don't make gender oriented and sexual prefence quips as a protagonist, that's for the witty and funny side characters. Poor execution on great ideas.
Ellen's Game of Games (2017)
Hired cast of contestants.
I was watching the show over the tv and you can tell the cast of contestants is entirely hired. Much of the stuff a contestant of put through are not even legally applicable. So they acquire individuals who sign a non-disclosurer agreement and vetted. These are often individuals who play in commercials or stock photo ads. The stuff asked for questions have as much intelligent reference as People or gossip magazine. You can tell that it's also rigged by the fact the rules are rigged. The last part where individuals line up and asked questions before they fall is so fake because its not fair or balanced way to determine a contestant deserves the prize as it always gives the last contestant the unfair advantage over the rest. All they have to do is survive where as all contestants should be asked one at a time but not sent immediately down until all contestants have been asked questions. However for the sake of entertainment they hire a cast and speed up the results for fast fed media bullshit.
Sense8 (2015)
Very great, but also very bad.
The TV series is about 8 unique individuals experiencing each others' experiences and sharing each others' minds to overcome their own personal ordeals. Some government funded lunatic wants to research and dissect them, who happens to have the very same powers.
Probably one of the best science fiction shows of our time, but also the worst. Great because it plays on a real thrilling concept. Bad because it deludes it with scenes that distract or take away from the building story.
The science of making a film isn't always about the detail, detail is nice. Sometimes too much can delude the content, basically water down the potency or the experience. This show watered down a lot of the experiences with sex scenes and too much unnecessary gore of sorts.
I usually never stand for censorship, but this show could've really used it. Basically it's like leaving little to the imagination of the mind, it's like those really skimpy bikinis. Yes, hot and saucy but tacky.
If this was censored or at least cut back on sex scenes and the display of gore I'd give this show a nine out of ten. As it stands four out of ten.
