77 Sunset Strip: 5: Part 1 (1963)
Brevity was needed
A five-episode series introduction to a newly revamped show? Poor idea. Bailey chases one lead after another getting nowhere fast. It was as if the writer new he had to do five shows and was required to fill air time. Dull? Boring? Yeah.
An army of guest stars paraded before and after each episode cannot make up for the weaknesses in the story. This was so bad I decided not to bother with the remaining episodes of the season. Jack Webb and William Conrad are no longer around to share a clothespin award. Save yourself the trouble and agony of watching this season. It is not worth it.

Happiness Ahead (1934)
Charming movie with a few songs
I would not go so far as to call this a musical, although some might because Dick Powell does do some singing in it. To my way of thinking a musical is simply where the music dominates the telling of a story. That is not so in this case. It is a romantic comedy with a song or two in it. It has the old fashioned boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy marries girl theme in it. The concept of s-e-x is 1934 style, with the two parties barely able to kiss one another until deep in the relationship. If you don't need special effects to tell a story, then you will like this one. The actors all speak like stage trained personnel with emphatic speech typical of the period. Many fine character actors in the cast including Frank McHugh and Allan Jenkins. It is just a classical and entertaining film comedy the way America used to do it. I loved it.
Kingdom (2007)
A great show albeit too short
There are only 18 episodes of this series. I am a bit disappointed with that as the last episode ends with an unresolved cliffhanger. I doubt they are going to go back and add to the series so there are some unknowns that we are left with. :( That being said, the acting is fine and the stories told are refreshingly British. It is a great alternative to USA network television. Those reviewers here who found some of the characters a bit grating are right, but I think that is just a device used to make the Fry character appear patient. They did mellow out Mr. Snegg as the series went on. I guess if you like Doc Martin you'll enjoy Kingdom. The opening sky-high camera shots show how beautiful the scenery is.
