That's Funny (2004)
It's nothing but America's Funniest People clips
This show is nothing but a rehash of America's Funniest People that came on in the early 90's hosted by Dave Coullier and Tawny Kitaen. All of the clips shown on this show are straight from that show. I guess Vin Di Bona owns the rights to all of these clips and decided he could reuse them. I don't know why. America's Funniest People was one of the worst clip shows ever. Even when I was 11 and 12 years old and tried to watch that show, I thought it was crap. The people in the clips are about as funny as a severe stroke. The best thing about this show is to see the high hair and bad fashion that was the early 90's. I'm sure anyone that was unfortunate enough to have been on America's Funniest People and see themselves on this show know wish that they'd never submitted to such grossly poor decision making. Further, I don't know what street they dragged this host in from, but he has no business being on television. In fact, he has no business performing as a clown at children's birthday parties. This show is just awful. If you're looking for bad hair and bad fashion to get a laugh from, it might be your cup of tea . . . but for everyone else, avoid!!!
The Passion of the Christ (2004)
Perfection *spoiler*
This is easily the best movie of the last 20 years. Not only is it the best movie regarding the life of Jesus, it is quite possibly the best film ever. Mel Gibson's portrayal of the final day of Jesus' life comes straight from the scripture. Critics of the film say that the film is too violent. I say that is a bunch of bunk. Jesus' death was a gruelling, painful, intense event. Mel Gibson would have been doing an injustice to all of the viewers of this film if he had tuned down the violence. If you think the death of Jesus wasn't a violent event, than may God have mercy on your soul. To the other critics who claim that this movie was antisemitic, I say fie to you. The Jewish community at the turn of the millennium was responsible for the death of Jesus, but that was only because that was God's plan. No Christian in his right mind would blame the Jews for the death of Jesus, and for the media to assume that Gibson was blaming the Jews is just another sign of the media's contempt for Christians the world over.
Now, to the movie. The portrayal of James Caviezel as Jesus was flawless. Makeup was flawless, the imagery was flawless. I applaud the hair and make up crew for their efforts. While the beatings that Jesus endured in the movie were tough to watch, I'm sure they still do not hold water to the actual beating that the Messiah endured 2000 years ago, but Gibson got as close as I've ever seen. Gibson's idea of the moments immediately following Jesus' death were also top notch. Being able to see an empty Hell following the rising of all the souls in Hell to Heaven was beautiful shot and directed. As an afterthought, the fact that the movie's spoken words were in Latin and ancient Hebrew took nothing away from the movie's power and intensity. Do not let this be a reason for you not to see this film.
Overall, on a scale of 10, this movie is well into the 30's. I would rate is a 33. It is easily the best film of the last twenty years, and the best film on the life of Jesus ever created. I applaud you Mel Gibson. Your film has touched my life.
Deadly Prey (1987)
What's not to love . . .
"Deadly Prey" has to be one of the funniest action movies of all times, and this is not because it is supposed to be. It's hard to pick out a place to start with this movie, so why not from the beginning. This movie is much like "Surviving the Game" but has a much lower budget and much worse production value. Mike Danton is kidnapped by a group of mercenaries that just happen to be headed by his former Special Forces commanding officer, Colonel Hogan. WHAT A PLOT TWIST! What I really don't understand is why Danton killed so many of Hogan's soldiers, removing their automatic weapons from their dead body, but NEVER USING THEM TO KILL THE MERCENARIES TRYING TO KILL HIM!!! For such a great soldier, Danton doesn't show very good judgement.
Besides the typical amputation of a mercenary's arm with a machete, running a twig on through another mercenary's body, and a great movie score, composed of continual 'DUN DUN DUN' sound effects, Deadly Prey is chock full of many surprises, all which will leave you desiring to re-acquire the hour and a half you spent on watching this movie back. 3 out of 10 stars simply for the "Plan 9 From Outer Space" quality it has. I would also recommend "Born Killer" for any fans of "Deadly Prey" Happy watching.
