Digging to China (1997)
An unlikely pair dig their way to true friendship...
I've always thought that there were some people out there who are born with old souls. Now I know it to be a fact because I've just seen this movie called "Digging to China" and now I realize why I had recently so suddenly become enamored with Evan Rachel Wood enough to be drawn to watch each one of her on screen performances in such a short amount of time (5 weeks). What a wonderful mixture of adventure, regrets, discovery, friendship and growing pains! All in all this adds up to be one great movie with a perfect cast and brilliant performances also by Kevin Bacon and Mary Stuart Masterson. All this mixed in with the movie being Timothy Hutton's directorial debut makes this movie one not to be missed!
Die Knickerbocker-Bande: Das sprechende Grab (1995)
Snoopers turns out to be SUPER!
I admit I bought this DVD hoping to be as complete as possible in viewing all the work of one of my favourite actors, Olivia Hallinan. The film had the initial appearance of an over-dubbed German Children's programme. (It's original title was "Das sprechende Grab") I expected this mini Miss Hallinan to be good, as her performances I've seen so far have been that and more. What I didn't expect was her to be Excellent!
It only took 5 minutes to see that plucky spirit that I have become a fan of shine through. I found myself slipping into the normal comfort/sated feeling I get from watching her performance, just as if I was watching "Lark Rise to Candleford" as I have so many times before.
The film itself proved to be adequately exciting with a good solid plot/mystery behind it. If you are in the mood for a 'kid movie' with good child actors, there are lots out there to see, if you want to see a movie with a performance well beyond the that of a 9 year old, watch this and see what a natural born actress is like!
