Greenland (2020)
Nothin New, You've Seen This Film Before
This flick is an amalgam of all the apocalyptic disaster films you've ever seen. Especially those with rocks and ice hurtling from space toward planet Earth. Also a lot of panic and mayhem like in zombie movies. Frankly I was surprised there were no zombies as this film used almost every trope imaginable to create suspense.
Mine (2016)
Seemingly Never Ends
If you enjoy watching for over an hour a person standing still in the desert this film is right up your alley. Otherwise not too much. In fairness could not finish it despite three tries and watching most of it.
Hateship Loveship (2013)
Much Better Than You Would Think
Though it's an almost convoluted story about despise and family relations, it later reverses itself. No disrespect to Hailee but Wiig, Pearce and Nolte are powerful in their roles. Especially Wiig. I've always thought that great comedians also make great actors. Wiig is a prime example.
Historia de un clan (2015)
Great Mini Crime Saga for Single Season Binge Watchers
Many Spoilers. All based on a "true story" which takes place in Argentina during the eighties. English subtitles also for those non Spanish speaking. If the preceding circumstances annoy you, don't watch. The story evolves around a patriarch of Italian descent not quite making it with his corner grocery store. There are debts and a family that desire to be provided. So kidnapping becomes the family business. Some family involved, some not and others looking away. To add to the drama there is a lot of sexual tension with the villain's youngest daughter spicing up every scene. Then another daughter involved in a suspected lesbian relationship with a nun. Argentina's brief answer to the Soprano's.
Shadow Billionaire (2009)
Interesting True Tale of an Eccentric Billionaire's Estate Woes
Larry Hilblom co-founded DHL became wealthy then semi-retired to Saipan where he dabbled in a diverse array of businesses, aviation, and secretly fathering illegitimate children. Lacking a pilot's license and surviving a serious plane crash did not deter Larry from the skies. He figured if you survive one crash then you have a free pass the rest of your life. He figured wrong. Died in a plane crash. His will directed all his monies to be managed by a foundation with the principal beneficiary the University of California. Numerous island mothers from near and far soon came out of the woodwork claiming a piece of Larry's fortune for their son/daughter of Hilblom. And the race was on. Very interesting story, told well.
