Cargo (2009)
Watch Original German Version!
I've watched this in the English dubbed version. It was horrible. The voice actors had no emotion in their voice which made the movie very dull and drawn out. In the English version, the character development was zilch. Be ware of the captioning as well - things like "enjoyable" in the audio become "unpleasant" (so the complete opposite of what the character is saying) in the captioning. You aren't drawn to the characters so you don't really care what happens to them.
The plot was okay but in no means fantastic. If you enjoyed movies like The Matrix and Sunshine (though without the science background in Sunshine) you might enjoy Cargo. Just make sure you watch it in the original German!
Rock Star: INXS (2005)
Best Reality Show To Date
I was very reluctant to watch this show. It seemed to much like "American Idol", with bad singing, and nasty judges. This show is totally different; the contestants have actual talent, and the judges make critical (but not overly ego destroying) comments that help the performers improve their singing.
Each week, a singer chooses a song and then performs in front of a live audience. Once the show is over, the public can vote via text messaging, or Internet voting. Polls are open for four hours, and then next day the bottom three need to perform an INXS song. INXS then decides which of the performers does not suit the band. That person then gets to say goodbye to their fellow contestants, INXS, and Dave Navarro.
There is absolutely no petty bickering, and if there are arguments, they're resolved with maturity. Even though this is a contest, each performer cares and helps each other - this is what makes Rockstar: INXS different.
28 Days Later... (2002)
Another British masterpiece.
As I'm reading the other comments, I think a lot of people missed the point. It's not about flashy Hollywood blood and gore, not about Hollywood baby food for the brain, and it is not about two people trying to "save the world".
I though the film was amazing. No sex scenes to take away from the movie, and surprise surprise, the two main characters _did_ not sleep together. The Infected were not in your face, but just there to scare you and keep you wondering when the next attack will be. The characters were magnificent. The 'traumatic childhood/accident' was not in play, (as it is in almost every anime and what not) giving the characters their own uniqueness. They didn't live in the past, the information was given to us on a need to know basis - making the movie mass use the gathering of cells known as the brain. The effects used to make the Infected stand out were well thought off and brought extra creepiness to the movie. When the group did make it to Manchester, the military presence was a bit of a disappointment. I thought that a international film could step away from the army saviors. I was wrong - the twist with the British military was well thought of (and was not Garlands futile attempt at making a fashion statement) that brought the audience for another spin. The scene where Jim comes to rescue the girls, in my opinion, was one of the most spectacular horror/suspense movie scenes. On a final note: It was refreshing to see an international film in theaters that wasn't "americanized".
