Matt Rife: Natural Selection (2023)
Hubris
Got bored and went on a comedy binge the other day. This special was terrible, and seems even worse right on the heals of Robin Williams and John Mulaney. Lazy comedy mixed with pandering "bits." I thought he was ok on some clips I've seen of him performing via social media, but then I made the mistake of putting this monstrosity on. Netflix if you are that desperate for content I could give you like 10names that would be so much better. If you're going to do edgy content, it has to be very very funny. He tried to be Eddie Murphy and only has 1/1000% of his talent. People give comediennes a bunch of grief for plastic surgery but this himbo has had more stitching than a quilt.
Grey's Anatomy: Who Is He (And What Is He to You)? (2017)
One of GA's worst
This episode always makes me incredibly angry. The two children in this episode, one who is brain dead whos father is trying to move heaven and earth to get him fixed even though it is impossible, the other, a dying child who is being allowed to die because her mothers insist on "saving her voice." Yeah, I get it. I'm female, and I totally understand the "taking away a woman's voice" allegory, but seriously? These two would rather have a dead daughter than a mute one? There are worse things than not being able to speak. There are ways to communicate other than with a voice. If I ran into a pair of parents who when told, by multiple doctors, that to save this child they had to remove her voicebox and the parents said "No" I would call cps. Instead of addressing this lunacy and ableism the writers went with the lazy "11th hour save." I love this show, and I hate hate HATE this episode. Just bonkers. Also, you have the money Avery get some therapy.
Bird Box (2018)
I rolled my eyes so hard at these bad reviews.
Nothing irritates the average "couch critic" more than an original idea. This film irrited a lot of people because it was an ordinal idea, well acted and beautifully produced but it was on a streaming service so the "old school" viewers thought of it as a made for tv movie. Once that group has formed a preconceived opinion of a movie you couldn't move them with an industrial crane. You're best bet is to ignore the.
I'm blown away by the talent in this movie, and it's lovely to see interesting but flawed characters for a change. The film manages to be both horrifying and beautiful and the audience is swept up feeling hope and despair in even measure.
Criminal Minds: Somebody's Watching (2006)
Miscast
They should have cast Winnick as "Lila", and Heard as "Mags". Winnick brought more depth and range for the 90secs she is on camera than Heard, as a guest star, did during the entire episodr. When "Lila" mentions she was trained at Julliard I laughed so hard I thought I'd die. Gubler shines, per usual, as Reid and the writers gave us a chance to get to see a very sweet side of him, despite the fact that they wrote Lila's personality to be "blond, barely wears clothes."If you're gonna spend that much time with a character let us get to know them at least. It's a little rough when people start rooting for the bad guy, because you've made the victim so very unlikable.
1941 (1979)
Funny at first but 2hrs of it insufferable
I don't think this movie actually ends, it just keeps going until you turn it off or go insane. It was funny at first but after 90min I wanted to scream! Someone gave me this movie and I finally watched it, now I'm mad at him because it's two hours of my life stolen, that I can never get back. I spent the last thirty minutes of this movie thinking about all the other things I would prefer to do with the dvd other than watch it ever again. My favorites are using it as a coaster and for skeet shooting. I considered burning it but the fumes are probably toxic, but I don't even want to risk releasing that films energy out in the world. Yikes!
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Once again the Fanboys miss the point
Was this the best Marvel movie? No. Was it as bad as these butthurt katekeeping fans want everyone to believe? Also, no. There is a lot of ridiculous in this movie and it's to compensate for the heartwrenching parts. Just because it isn't verbatim comic book cannon doesn't mean it's a bad story, and just because it's a different style of movie doesn't mean it's bad cinema. There are a lot of A list performers who knocked it out of the park. Bale, especially has the talent to make the viewer sympathize with the antagonist and Natalie Portman redeems herself by making Jane 100% less annoying than she was in the first 2 Thor films. The cameos are cute and funny and I appreciate that the movie doesn't take itself too seriously. A pretentious film can be good but it's very rarely fun. Obviously you don't have to like this movie, but if you never even give it a chance then you're going to hate it no matter what. Let go, laugh at the stupid parts, and appreciate the deeper moments.
Fresh Off the Boat: It's a Plastic Pumpkin, Louis Huang (2017)
Bahaha
Most important part, Forrest Wheeler does a fantastic Kramer impression!!! This episode was great, the pop culture references are hilarious and it expressed beautifully the awkwardness of freshman kids trying to be cool for Halloween.
A Lion in the House (2006)
A moving and honest documentary
When I was a child I spent years with my grandfather while he tried to battle cancer. I then spent a summer with him at 9yrs old while he lost the battle and my mother, his daughter, took on the role of his hospice nurse. I can only imagine what these parents went through, and the many parents who are currently going through it. This isn't just about the kids, but their whole family.
Some of these reviews are atroc, especially the ones judging the parents. Imagine judging people who are trying to do their best while living their worst nightmare. This documentary spans years, and they call it amateur. So what if it is! It's honest. In a world full of instant gratification this documentary was instead a long journey, as it should be. Most people who give terrible reviews no jack all about filmmaking.
This was honest, and beautiful, and heart wrenching and ugly. Ignore the 3 or less ratings, and take a chance on this.
Hart of Dixie: Lovesick Blues (2013)
Oof
This episode, while cute at the time, should be referenced as an accurate prediction of America's reaction to Covid19. Everyone upset about quarantine even if it helps them, government making people happy instead of safe, and Doctors compromising what they know is best to make the people and government happy. Still people break the rules anyway, and such a large population getting sick despite vaccines, including putting the only doctor at risk for people's "rights."
Little Women (1994)
Wonderful!
Little Women was one of my favorite novels growing up, I read it many times before watching this movie and I was so excited to find out how well the book was portrayed. Every actor was so perfectly cast. I rewatch this film every once in while and half the time I reread the novel or "Little Men" shortly after. Fantastic!
Bio-Dome (1996)
Bio-Dome is brain candy
No one thinks that this would ever get an oscar. It's just silly, and actually makes a point about the environment if you aren't too busy getting your panties in a twist. It's 90'stastic silly. It's fun to watch and more fun to make fun of, so just chill out y'all. Not to mention it gave some young actors a chance at the big screen, so just check your pretention at the door please.
Happy Valley (2014)
Entertaining but has one annoying thing.
I really am enjoying this series but the editor, director, whomever decided to make this choice to have a long high pitched note ring everytime the main actress is having a panic attack. Listen y'all she's a good enough actress to convey a panic attack without you playing this note that instantly gives me a headache. If it happens much more I'm dropping the series. It is that abnoxious and painful. If you're sensitive to that thing, stay clear of this show.
This Is Us (2016)
The Ballet episode
I was a fan of the show until you showed a watered down version of what most serious ballet studios are like. I was one of those dancers and my training was far more difficult than portrayed. I understand that they want to be PC with the times but if you are going to show accurate times of the show than be accurate. I'm done with this show. It made the struggle that we went through seem trivial, you could've been honest and it would have made a deeper impact but you took the cheesy false path. Yes, nowadays they are more gentle in a dance studio but not then, and screw you for showing it this way.
Tag (2018)
Dumb as hell
There are excellent actors in this movie. I'm pretty sure they are embarrassed that they were ever a part of this unbelievably stupid movie. Seriously? This movie owes me the 2hrs of my life it took away. The writers should be ashamed.
The Time Machine (2002)
This was 90min of my life that I will never get back.
I found this movie annoying and showy. I don't blame the actors for this. I believe that their acting was credible and emotional. I do, however believe that the writing was lacking and that the producers and director hoped that the flashy special effects would make up for the unfortunate script, they were wrong. I saw it in the theater when it first came out and at one point I was distracted by looking at my then injured ankle, which was more interesting than the movie. I also have a vague memory of seeing "Wishbone" do a TV synopsis of this book with more entertainment value than this movie. I beg of you don't waste the time seeing this movie. That was 90min of my life I could have used reading the book (which I'm sure wouldn't have made me want to run headlong into a brick wall like this movie did).
