Lost in Space (2018)
It had potentail, but ruined by some characters
I never saw the old Lost in Space, but I am aware of the original show, and the movie as well. So, I am not comparing to the previous work, and more as a stand-alone series.
Maureen Robinson and Judy Robinson are almost perfect in the show. It seems that there is nothing they do not know, or that they cannot do. Maureen is an aerospace engineer, and Judy Robinson is an 18-year-old medical doctor (in-training), but they both seem to be polymaths. Maureen is supposed to have accomplished a lot, but most of the flashbacks show her being at home, and a mom. Not sure how she had to time to learn everything she knows. They seem to overcome anything they come across, except a fake Dr. Smith. Dr. Smith seemed a like a manipulative person, but she also seems to be a genius as well. Regardless of the evidence to prove that Dr. Smith is a liar, she can fool anyone to consider otherwise. Dr. Smith can manipulate a highly advance robot.
John Robinson is mostly a side character, all he does is stay quiet and fight. John was in the special forces, and a combat veteran. He should be the best choice in the family to lead a group of colonists to survive in an unknow environment. He is also supposed to be the expedition commander of the current mission. Yet, Maureen seems to be the leader of the family, and the colony. It seems the writers believe special forces operators are all brawn and no brain. The most believable and likeable character in the show is Penny Robinson. She mostly wants to have fun, but when the situation needs here to sink or swim, she arises from the situation.
Through the show, both Maureen and Judy seemed to hate John. I thought maybe John cheated on Maureen, but it seems they are mad at John for being away to long from home. I am not sure why Judy hates him so much. John adapted a daughter that is not biologically his, and has tried his best to show her affection, but to be rejected by ungratefulness. John tried to help Judy with PTSD, someone who may know what the subject well, but she did not give him a chance to hear him out. Well, since she is almost perfect, she quickly overcomes PTSD by herself.
Maureen was the most annoying character in the show, and the most hypocritical. At one time, John wanted to have a gun for protection. However, Maureen replied with, "you know how I fell with guns in the house?" Remember, they are another planet, with a lot of unknowns. When they found the robot, they realize some other intelligent life created the robot, so they know they are not alone anymore. Later, some aggressive eel type creatures attack the family inside the spaceship, and John had to fight them off with a pocket knife. Later, some bear-size Stegosaurus looking creatures attack the colonist camp, and John is trying to protect his family with a pocket knife. Somehow, she does not allow John to have access to a gun. Also, by this time, everyone in the camp is aware that the robot with Will Robinson attacked their ship and killed many colonists. Maureen is uncomfortable with a weapon in the "house," but is fine with a former killer robot following Will around (which can revert to his old ways), which most of the surviving colonist are uncomfortable around the robot.
No Ordinary Family (2010)
Wow!
The reason I did not rate the show a one star, because the actors seemed to try to do their best with what was given to them. So, why the low rating? It is the idiocy of the characters and the actions they perform. The Stephanie, after finding out about her abilities, she decides to tell her assistant, which she rarely speaks with. The assistant was surprised that Stephanie acknowledged her, then confided in her. That is the person Stephanie decides to tell. Then, Stephanie forbids her husband, Jim from using his abilities, then she uses them herself and is angered when Jim confronts her. She also likes to criticize Jim for not spending time with the family, while she is rarely around, which other moms in the neighborhood criticize her for it. As for Jim, he decides to use his abilities to fight crime, but it take him a while to realize that he needs to hide his identity. He did not have to read comics to know that criminals knowing his identity may bring his family harm. Also, he knows his daughter is able to read minds, but decides to lie to her. As for the teenage kids, I give them a pass because they are teenagers, and if the parents are stupid, it is not surprising the kids will be as well.
Ying xiong (2002)
Expected a martial arts movie, not a snore fest
I do not understand the high rating of this movie, and I do not understand most positive reviews. To me, most reviews of movies seems pretentiousness, and act like movie critics. I saw so many reviewed praise this movie, but when I saw it for myself. I was highly disappointed, so much that I had to fast forward through a lot of the scenes. There was only of few minutes of fighting, while the rest was focused on being arty, and romantic. I assumed with Jet Li, and Donnie Yen in this movie, a lot of martial arts fighting would have taken place, but I assumed incorrectly. I watch movies for entertainment, and escapism. No matter how artistic, or excellent performances by the actors a movie has, if it is boring I can not enjoy it.
Extraction (2013)
Worse than expected
I was not expecting any Oscar performance from this movie, but there was nothing good about this movie, other than the appearance of Danny Glover. I watched the movie thinking there was going to be some decent action, and fighting scenes, but I was disappointed. The fighting scenes looked like the B-version of a WWE fight. It was easy to see that the fighters were slowing down for each other during attacks, waiting for the opponent to counter-attack. Most of the times, the strikes not making contact with their target were clearly visible. At least try to fool your audience a little bit, I am not sure how much it costs to cut, and edit fighting scenes, but do it for one fight.
Wu xia (2011)
Not the Wuxia I was expecting
I was intrigued by the original title, _Wuxia_, because some of the wuxia light novels. This movie turns out to be anything, but what I was expecting. I was expecting an action packed, fighting movie, because of Donnie Yen, but there was like only two decent fighting scenes. The movie turned out to be more of a crime, and mystery movie, like a Chinese Sherlock Holmes. It might be might fault, because this is what I think when I see Wuxia: The word "wuxia" is a compound composed of the elements wu (lit. "martial", "military", or "armed") and xia (lit. "honourable", "chivalrous", or "hero").
What made dislike the movie the most, is the incident with the main villain at the end. I was screaming at the screen, 'are you serious?'
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
150 minute snore-fest with 30 minutes of action
I prefer DC over Marvel characters, especially Batman, and Superman. However, this movie did not make both of my characters justice, and it was surprisingly boring. Batman was acting like the Punisher, Superman was acting like Ultron, Lex Luther was acting like a hipster villain, and I do not know what to make of Wonder Woman. If you want to have a good idea of what Wonder Woman is supposed to be, I suggest you watch the 2009 animated film _Wonder Woman_. To be honest, Zack Snyder should only focus on visuals, and let someone else do the rest. I hate to say it, but both _Deadpool_, and _Captain America 3_ were a lot better than this crap.
