The Missing: The Mountain (2016)
UTTERLY BRILLIANT...
This is one of the finest series I have ever watched. The final two episodes in particular are nothing short of masterpieces. I wish US filmmakers could get back to producing series half as good.
Shetland: Episode #5.6 (2019)
I LOVE Shetland, but...
I love Shetland but, while still great drama, this was my least favorite season of all. The character of Olivia may be one of the most unlikeable non-criminals in the entire series. She is constantly making bad decisions, never gives a hint of gratitude, and really made me dislike the series (just a little). Loved the Tosh romance storyline. Jimmy being forced to question or not trust a person close to him (Alice) is repetitive from last season when he had to question Duncan's involvement in possible criminal activity. I hope this series isn't the start of a downward spiral for the show as I am a HUGE fan. As always, brilliantly acted and scenery is amazing.
Happy Horror Days (2020)
IT'S REALLY BAD... and not in a good way
It's a complete waste of time, not intetesting and some of the dumbest stories ever. The July 4th episode speaks to an America that no longer exists. Just a waste.
The Professor and the Madman (2019)
A complete masterpiece...
There is not a single a single CGI or special effect in this film. It should still be considered required viewing for all people. An incredible story of forgiveness, friendship, and excellence. After watching a pandemic year or rot-gut films, you can really see what a difference quality acting and screenwriting makes. Poor critic reviews clearly are just hatred of Mel Gibson for his past personal indiscretions. These critics would be wise to learn a lesson from the film about forgiveness and moving on.
Another Life (2019)
TOO FOCUSED ON CLICHES AND IDENTITY POLITICS INSTEAD OF PLOT
The show had amazing potential. With a strong cast, healthy budget, interesting base premise, and excellent special effects, it simply should be much better. Instead it's hard to get past the strong stereotype and identity politics thrust into each episode and character. Diverse characters are always welcomed into a modern series but it is overblown and makes the plot suffer in Another Life. Curse words are thrown into dialogue so often that they lose their intended effect. The consequence is I found myself almost rooting against everyone. Major fail.
