Bruce! Where did you go?
26 September 2020
Slow, horrible written. The dialogue is stilted and awkward. Not the old Bruce Willis flick for sure. Wish I could get my $6.99 rental fee back.

From Sci-fi to Comedy?
15 March 2020
The first movie was dark, interesting and suspenseful. They have turned this remake into a ridiculous comedy. Everything is over the top silly and there is nothing suspenseful, or enjoyable for that matter. Why they chose to take a good sci-fi movie into this silly comedy is beyond me. It would have been better left undone.

Sly's Still Got It
6 January 2020
Well, it's been 24 hours since I watched this movie, and I am still thinking about it. That's something. I haven't been much of a Rambo fan but I liked this movie for the most part. The revenge feels right and you want to cheer each time one of the bad guys meets his end.

The movie gets into the story right away, though I wish they had spent a little time on backstory. Five minutes would have done the trick. If you haven't watched other Rambo movies, you're left wondering-what's wrong with this guy?

If you understand Rambo's past, the tunnel system and his paranoia over his "niece" heading to Mexico to find her father make sense. Yes, there are some serious plot holes but this isn't supposed to be an intellectual film...it's Rambo, after all.

Overall, this is a revenge movie. His family has been done wrong, and he is going to make them pay. And pay they do.

Bit of a Duck Dynasty Rip Off

Seriously? It doesn't even come off like it is unscripted. It is not the least bit natural and, well, frankly, I'm out.

Love and Hate it!
11 December 2019
The actors are great. There is good chemistry between all of the players. But...I gave up watching soap operas years ago because no one was ever allowed to be happy longer than one episode! As I get further into this series, I am finding the same thing. People finally get together and lo and behold some tragedy develops to keep them apart. I'm hooked but I don't like it, and doubt I will watch a second season.

I Got Bored
27 January 2019
It's a little difficult to take a movie seriously when the movie ignores all of the sequels that have been produced, however bad. In Halloween 20 Laurie had a son. Now, in this movie, it's a daughter. It was mentioned that Michael Meyer's crime was killing 5 people. Obviously if you watched the sequels the count would be closer to 25 than 5. Was this movie good? Not particularly. The usual mayhem, the masked Meyer killing with abandon and no motive. Laurie Strode, having prepared for the past 40 years for this encounter, still manages to come off as unprepared and ill equipped for the battle.

Not Enough Time
11 November 2018
The movie attempts to tell a very complex, multi-layered story in 2 hours. It simply can't be done. This would have been a good mini-series, or standard series. Due to the time constraints, we don't get a much of a feel for the characters. What we get is fairly shallow and one-dimensional. And, as another reviewer mentioned, it doesn't follow history as closely as it could.

The scenery is stunning, and there is plenty of action once the movie gets started. The actors do a good job with what they are given. But, I came away from the movie wanting to know these people and their history better. Two hours simply isn't enough time to delve deep enough into the rich history of the time. And so, it becomes a historical action movie, instead of an exciting view into the life and times of Robert the Bruce.

Classic, Corny, Fun
21 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The usual, boy meets girl, they clash like oil and water, and, or course, eventually fall in love. It was as predictable as snow in a Montana winter--but I really enjoyed it. I love the corny, predictability of it. The lead characters were likable and fun. My only problem with the movie is that it builds to the usual love fest ending and then disappoints. There was no huge declaration of unending, abiding love. You get that they are together but it was anti-climactic. Still worth watching though.

I Liked It, But...
3 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I like cheesy, predictable horror movies and this one fit right in. You have the female in distress with the added burden of taking care of her two kids during this nightmare. The kids, by the way, and extremely annoying with whining and crying. The predictable things happen but what we are left with is why. Why the yarn, why the wooden replicas of family, why the mask...and why after watching this family summer in this spooky old house for years does he decide now to terrorize them?? I don't like too much exposition in film but come on--a little can add to the story. We get none of that. Overall, it was an ok movie to pass and Sat. afternoon eating popcorn and Whoppers. But...certainly not great and nothing new here.

Alone in Paris
28 July 2018
I love a good, deep movie filled with symbolism and thought provoking scenes. But when it comes to horror flicks, I want to leave my intellect behind and just simply get creeped out. This is an unusual zombie movie. It is not scary, or even creepy. This movie is more about survival and loneliness than battling the undead.

Enter Sam. He goes to his former girlfriend's apartment to pick up his things. After some awkward conversation amidst some overly loud music and a crowd of party guests, his former girlfriend sends him down the hall to the office for his things. You can feel Sam's uneasiness with the people and the noise. Avoiding the loud crowd, he sits in the office and finally falls asleep. When he wakes up, the world, as he knows it is gone, replaced by flesh-eating zombies. We never know how or why.

This is the story of his survival, alone, isolated and trapped, in an apartment building in Paris. The first part of the movie was interesting as he searches the building, marking off apartments that harbor undead residents. Going into the various apartments, he begins gathering food in tote bags like a doomsday shopping trip.

What's missing here? A couple of things. We don't know Sam, and very little happens in the movie to really clue us in as to who he is, and what makes him tick. We get glimpses but nothing concrete to make us care about him and hope for his survival.

The second thing missing is zombie interaction. This is less of a horror movie and more of a psychological study on being isolated and alone, and the effect it has on one's mind. If you're looking for a movie that makes you think, with a side of zombies, this might do the trick. There is definitely a lot to think about here.

One of the Worst
5 June 2018
The acting in this film was horrible. Some of the big names were okay but for the most part it was a study in overacting. We sat through it reluctantly. You know when you are watching the clock thinking, "Is this almost over?" it's not a great flick. The acting, accents, story and lead actor were all just horrible. That's a couple of hours and $5.99 we'll never get back.

Not Good
6 July 2017
Predictable story lines don't bother me so much but bad writing and acting do bother me. This movie is one of the worst I've seen. I can't even explain why I watched it until the end. Adkins should stick to singing, and the others need to be a little more picky about the projects they undertake.

If There is Nothing Else to Watch -This One is OK
25 March 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Like the last review I read here, sometimes I like a relaxing, easy to predict movie to watch on the weekend while I do something else.

The story overall is okay. Mother and Father separated, get together realizing they can't live without each other. I get that, I do and I like the predictability of it. But the premise here is hard to swallow.

The father, daughter, and grandfather are likable characters, but the mother/wife in the story comes across as self-involved and just plain unlikable. The mother thinks more about work than what is best for her daughter. Like most mothers, no one comes between me and my family- and certainly not my boss. I wanted to see some of that motherly dedication in this character, but it was lacking. There is little if any personal growth in this character throughout the movie

So if there is nothing else available, you might enjoy this predictable family-oriented movie. Just don't dig too deep.

This One is Fun and Predictable
25 March 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I admit it, I like predictable movies, especially on the weekend when I want to watch but do something else at the same time. Hallmark movies are great for this.

This movie follows that pattern, fun, predictable, happy.

I think what makes this movie work for me is that all of the characters are very likable. The couple has been divorced for 2 years, yet remain friends. We are not exposed to a lot of bitterness and any diatribes against the exes.

Jeff Nordling and Valerie Bertinelli are great in their parts as caring ex-partners who have shared a long married life and 3 children. They portray an underlying love very well without it being over the top or sappy. The kids are great too - none of them is obnoxious as is too often the case in many movies with children as main characters.

Everyone does a great job. The movie is enjoyable and predictable with likable characters and beautiful scenery. I watched it smiling the entire time.

Absolutely Delightful Christmas Movie
16 December 2009
Great move, great music, great fun.

Is the movie, perfect? No, of course it isn't. But the missteps, and continuity problems can be forgiven. I have watched this movie every Christmas since I was a girl (many moons ago) and still love it.

This year for the first time I noticed some problems. For example, some of the male dancers that are on staff with the Wallace and Davis show, are the same guys who dance in the night club act with Rosemary Clooney's character. Nevertheless, it can all be forgiven.

I look at these old movies as stepping back in time to something less complicated-a time when women wore fancy dresses and night clubs were a great form of entertainment.

Men, Women, Romance, Good Music, No Serious Problems--it's all good for me.

Meet the Santas (2005 TV Movie)
It's a fun movie, but...
16 December 2009
I love these kinds of mindless, fun movies with no serious point to make. There are no politically correct lessons to learn here, but entertainment. I miss just plain old entertainment.

My two complaints on this lightweight Christmas movie are the Santa laugh that Steve Guttenberg does....it's positively grating and couldn't sound less like an enthusiastic Santa if he tried--and the really poor wig on father Santa.

Seems like for a few dollars more they could have gotten something that doesn't look like it came out of a dumpster behind a pet store.

If they could dub the laugh, and fix that wig, then this one would be great fun.
