Took Me By Surprise
21 December 2022
Like a lot of other reviewers, I found the love story hard to buy. Like one other reviewer I saw, I was pretty convinced that the actual couple was Tom and Assan.

BUT, I love seeing a love of doing all of the holiday things with kids. This movie caught all of the family rituals of Christmas without being overbearing and just stressful like it was depicted in Bad Mom's Christmas. There was a joy in sharing all of those rituals with the kid that made it believable.

In the end, I really liked the message of the movie. I liked all of the reasons to believe and all of the reasons not to steal that from your children. For me, this movie was all about Ella, the little girl even though she was supposed to be playing the minor role.

I couldn't buy the love story--my apologies to the married actors. But, I didn't need to in order to buy into the powerful Christmas message of this movie. I was prepared to hate it and was pleasantly surprised.

Gets Worse Toward The End
17 December 2022
I usually reserve the under 5 star ratings for movies I couldn't even finish, but this one started at an OK 6-7 and went downhill!

I find that I hate kissing scenes in most movies, but there was just no chemistry here which made it worse. The couple they forced together didn't work at all.

The background story that was supposed to drive the emotions was somehow dropped. It was still a thread throughout the movie; it just lacked conviction. One of the 'I hate Christmas because...' storylines was even partially reinforced!

The ending doesn't just feel forced. It felt like they tried to put a puzzle piece that doesn't quite fit into that spot with a sledge hammer. They made it work only to notice the final piece belongs in a different puzzle.

My rating slipped in the last 1/2 hour of the movie. There's just nothing here to love, in my opinion.

Good Movie Turns Stupid
11 April 2022
Others have already told all in spoilers, so I'll just say a smart, capable woman who's very good at her job and has a cop for a boyfriend decides to throw her brain away and act incredibly dumb for the last 20 minutes of the movie. I was riveted until then.

Watch It For What It Is
23 May 2021
This movie isn't a remake or a re-imagining of the original movies. It's not even the same story.

Instead, think of it as a parody similar to Hillywood's Supernatural parodies. Over-the-top acting, its own story, some nice cameos.

Consider the cast to begin with: You have to know that, with Melissa McCarthy the character will be ridiculous. Kate McKinnon's character will be annoying and inappropriate. OK, I don't like anything Kate McKinnon does on a good day. Kristen Wiig will be every character she's ever played and Leslie Jones will be outrageous and loud. How can anyone try to take this movie as a serious remake?

As a parody, it's fun. It has its moments. Chris Hemsworth as the hot but how-do-you-put-your-pants-on? Dumb guy gets real old. Maybe if he had an arc, but nope.

I probably wouldn't watch it again, but I feel that way about most parodies.

I Cared Too Much
1 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
If the movie aims to make the viewers angry, it succeeds. There is no protagonist here. Not a single one.

I spent the entire movie waiting for her to get hers and, while the ending was satisfying, it wasn't the ending I wanted.

About midway, I started thinking "Don't kill her; dismantle her life. She doesn't deserve to die."

It's disappointing that the writers had assets in the latter half and they just didn't use them. It's disappointing that Diane Wiest's threats went unanswered in the film. As a mom, in general, if my son let my suffering go unanswered to get rich...no, no, no. I would have had her killed myself (in this scenario).

So Good!

I love this one because it thoroughly explores the concept of both sides fighting for what they think is right in a war. Also, it explores strength, loss, and responsibility for your actions.

As an anime, it's gorgeous. All the feels. Of course, these are no ordinary humans. They each possess a legendary weapon that grants them extraordinary skills. As a gamer, I appreciated the way each bonded with their individual skills and excelled at what they had to offer.

Touching
12 July 2018
I put off watching this for quite some time because it looked interesting but weird. Now that I've watched it, it's interesting but weird. It's a web of life story that, at its core is similar to Crash, yet nothing like that movie. I loved the artwork. The apartment where the majority of the movie takes place is amazing. I'd love to live there! It makes the movie more visually interesting since, as I've said, most of it takes place in that space. You get the impression that Woody, the protagonist, is tied to the place by his obligations. Anyway, the story is heartwarming. For me, it was a slow start, got good around the middle, and was a bit anticlimactic in the end. But, it holds a good message and that's what makes it touching.

Terrible
10 July 2018
I didn't find anything funny about this. She's depressed, she's completely selfish and self-centered and she was all of these things from the beginning. There's no great epiphany or life altering event that suddenly makes her a better person. She gets told off once and flips the switch suddenly. Unbelievable. There is nothing about this girl that is relatable. Geez, The bad boy has more sense than she does. I don't see why it has good reviews.

Confidence is Sexy
2 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The crisis in the story was pretty sad--that she believed so much in her own beauty that she became shallow and self-centered. But, the morale of the story is a good one and not at all like the movies it's being compared to. Confidence is sexy and you don't need natural beauty for that.

Somebody Phoned This In

It's just not interesting. The fight coreography is terrible. Nothing is really answered and some things seem to be done just to change the story up. The jokes play on nostalgia for the original trilogy, but they're lame.
