Before the Dawn (2019)
Compelling drama
A very compelling indie drama about a subject that seems to be in the news more and more -- a student/teacher affair. What stood out was how realistic it felt, and that's a tribute to the filmmakers and actors. If this kind of film is not handled with nuance in how it's shot and how the characters are portrayed, it would just be something exploitative. Thankfully, this film did handle everything well.

An authentic indie drama period piece
An authentic indie drama period piece taking place in the Vietnam era about two sisters and what it was like to be alive and go through that very tumultuous time in history. The film captured the emotion, the confusion, and how they coped and got through it all... It's important that period pieces capture the feel of the time, and I was impressed that this film did such a good job with that via the music and sets. The pacing lagged occasionally, but overall, this was worth watching.
Julia 17 - (2017)
Ambitious, gritty and raw film worth your time to see
This is a really ambitious film that feels so real and heartbreaking as we experience the main character Julia's life. It's one of the grittier indie films I've ever seen -- and oftentimes was tough to watch many of the things she goes through -- but throughout I always empathized with her. The acting by everyone was great and for this kind of film, real. And the soundtrack really enhanced everything we watched, helping to really frame this gritty, raw world. I was also very impressed that the star, Andreea, also wrote, directed and produced this.
