The Rookie: Under Siege (2023)
Season 5, Episode 22
10/10
I KNEW IT!
5 May 2023
I knew The Rookie had it in there somewhere. After multiple ridiculous finales, finally a finale worthy of this great show! I'd have watched a two, three hour finale of this. I was enthralled. Creepy masks, cops lives on the line, bad guys with real force to challenge our heroes. I was on the edge of my seat. Everyone was involved. A little moment of happy. Of course they have to have us on a cliff until next season to see what's what. I'll be there will bells on. Juarez and Aaron are ambushed by creepy mask wearers and there's a riddle. No one is safe. Is this a new player? Someone with a grudge? Gah, this finale just reminded me of why I binged three seasons of this show and have watched religiously since then. Absolute greatness.

Haul Out the Holly (2022 TV Movie)
10/10
I'm thinking some missed the point.
30 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I completely get it. Don't get me wrong! I was full side eye for a chunk of this one myself. My personal main must for Christmas movies is the decor and this one had it so that's why I stuck around because the parents here?? Hated them. Until I didn't. It was a try out! A freaking try out! I get this one isn't going to be for everyone. I prefer Chabert when she doesn't portray the sugary sweet and overly bubbly lead. I thought Wes Brown was a quirky and endearing break from the normal cookie cutter love interest. I appreciated all of the nods to Christmas movie classics. I thought the supporting cast did a fantastic job and were hilarious while also making me care about them. This has actually been one of my favorites of the year so far. I really hate that it missed the mark for so many others. If you're still unsure if you want to watch this one or previously thought it was unwatchable because of unlikable characters then I encourage you to push through and give it a chance. I'm glad I did.

Let down.
28 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It had everything there to be great. But then it just felt like a lot was done for over an hour for things to be wrapped up in unconventional ways. I know that's where my low rating comes from and I'm guessing others too. You only see Jake with his dad for a short time, Rachel never actually connects with her mom, and then to top it off Jake and Rachel don't actually cement anything final on camera. I would have been 100% okay with not getting the romance part because I'll get my overdose with Hallmark but to never see Rachel and her mom together?! Unforgivable. I get what the message is but I'm a human living in 2022, I want my payoff if I'm committing my watch time. Love the leads and supporting cast. Loved the setting. Loved the acting. But overall, this missed the mark for me.

Ghosts of Christmas Always (2022 TV Movie)
10/10
A new all time favorite.
11 November 2022
Admittedly, the movies where they try to recreate it or give it a twist are typically not my favorite. I'm looking at whatever that weird Wizard of Oz movie was. The. Worst. This, though?? The. Best. I was hesitant but realized, I actually have no idea what's going to happen! That never happens. And since Hallmark has focused more on the romances in the last few years and stuck too a formula, I cannot tell you the last time a Hallmark Christmas movie had my eyes all wet. My son use to wipe them away as a toddler. He's almost 15 now and it's been years and years since one of these movies had me reaching for the tissues. I adored the acting and the storytelling was perfection. This isn't one to turn on in the background and halfway pay attention to. No, sit up, pay attention, and enjoy! More of this PLEASE HALLMARK!!

The Resident: One Bullet (2022)
Season 6, Episode 3
10/10
A very powerful episode.
10 October 2022
This show has always brought amazing storylines. The episode last season that shined a light on how precious nurses are to healthcare and how they are not given near the compensation nor credit for everything they do was heart moving. This episode had me wanting to pause it so I could find the closest place to donate blood and ask when is the soonest I can come back to give more. I knew healthcare was chaos but the potential level it could get to I don't think ever truly registered with me. That was pure organized pandemonium. Even people that are just "inconvenienced" you hated it for them. I know the relationships in real life between healthcare providers and the general public are strained but what a place we would live in if the ones called to do this work decided it was no longer worth answering the call for. I love that this show highlights the best and the worst of the field so many choose to work in everyday. While also managing to make the viewers just as interested in and entertained by the character's lives and storylines. Keep it up!

FBI: Prodigal Son (2022)
Season 5, Episode 3
10/10
I'm glad we finally..
9 October 2022
Got to see this episode. While finding it selfishly frustrating to not get to see the planned season finale, I agree with another reviewer that it was properly pushed back given the events that took place on the day this episode was set to air. I'm going to say something controversial here.. as a society I think we become desensitized to these types of things seeing them on TV shows or not treating everyone of the real life instances with as much shock as Columbine received. On one hand, I can understand not wanting to give real love kids the impression of notoriety if they go the route the kids did in this episode but on the other hand, I can't imagine the fear our youth struggles with knowing the next school on the news could be theirs. As a student, I'm not old enough to a part of the generation that practiced drills for possible bombings during wartime. The only drills I had to participate in were fire or tornadoes and that was scary enough then. To know these kids actively practice what moves to make if they find themselves in a shooter situation, is gut wrenching and heart breaking. Watching the kids in this episode run to those buses as if their lives depended on it because you know, it did and seeing the terror on some of the actors faces, even knowing they were acting, smacked me so hard across the face. The fact a student needs to be thinking about their escape route at any given moment of their day and depending on where they could randomly find themselves is just not okay. I don't necessarily care that a lot of shows represent the aggressors as gamers a large percentage of the time but it is what it is. I commend the show for choosing to wait and I hope these shows with this particular storyline become obsolete because we find an answer to a problem that's been ongoing and devastating for far too many years now.

The Rookie: Feds: Day One (2022)
Season 1, Episode 1
10/10
I'm willing to give it a fair chance.
29 September 2022
In no way am I shading the only other person that has reviewed this episode, because it would seem we value different things in our entertainment. I know a lot of people that watch criminal and cop procedurals with a critical eye so things that annoy them don't get to me the same way. I like to abandon critical thinking and applications to fictional TV shows. I 100% agree that Nathan Fillion is next level, beyond talented. The man could make watching him take out the trash funny or interesting, but most likely both. But I like Neicy in the episode of The Rookie where they introduced her and this show seems to be taking a play from FBI's playbook and making its spin-off seem a little darker in their tones even if you do have Neicy there for comedic takes. No, I'm real life she probably wouldn't make it through Quantico at her age and she doesn't necessarily look the part of physically fit for the role of an FBI agent but in no way do I mean that as an insult. She's still beautiful and the part I love most about this character is her experience being a guidance counselor and how that plays into why she's good at being a Fed. Just like with the character of John Nolan, she brings a new perspective and an oddly informed insight and wisdom to this character. Don't get me wrong, the female empowerment statements had me rolling my eyes all the way back. But I do like the Vampire Cop/newbie story the way it's included. The Rookie has been a binge worthy show for me since I discovered it two or three seasons in and consumed it far faster than I intended or seems possible. So as I said, I'm fully willing to give this show a chance because I remember turning my nose up at The Rookie for years before I finally actually tried it and loved it. So I'm hoping some of the powers that be have found a way to bring at least some of that magic over to this show. I look forward to getting to know this team better and how their dynamics work. So count me in for the foreseeable future.

FBI: Hero's Journey (2022)
Season 5, Episode 1
6/10
Here's the thing.
22 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I love this show. I'm going to watch it until they take it off the air. But after not getting to see the season four finale in the states, which sucked, I though this episode would bring the heat and drama. Literally the only exciting part was when they did the aerial view of OA running from the SUV. That's it. I love Missy. I watched her in Rookie Blue faithfully. I think she adds to FBI but it's been okay when she was unable to film too. This episode just wasn't it. It felt like we were missing some context with Jubal and his son and their dynamic. Maybe we would have that context if they ever released season 4's finale... but this felt like a run of the mill, week 5, throw away episode. Oh there's a bomb! Never mind, it's over there! *runs* oh yea, here it is but you're SOL BYEEE.. what?! You're bomb technicians. I don't expect actual bomb techs to perform miracles but this is TV. I don't need it to be realistic. This was just a dud for me. Hopefully others found more enjoyment. But I nearly fell asleep. Which wouldn't be that big of a deal if I wasn't a legitimate insomniac. If you only knew what all it took for me to fall asleep then you'd understand. Now when I need to sleep, I'll know I can just turn in the season five opener of FBI and I'll be out like a light. Fingers crossed that this was a one off and the season improves going forward.

Dynasty: Catch 22 (2022)
Season 5, Episode 22
10/10
Bittersweet.
19 September 2022
I'm going to miss this one. I really loved tuning in for all of the outlandish antics and really amazing acting. The show never got boring. I think there was so much more story that could have been told here. I would have continued to tune in for many more seasons. I like that there were few actually safe from potentially being there one episode and not being there the next. Losing Anders sucked. Sam was a gift that was totally unexpected and I was so glad he was there throughout for the show. Fallon was a boss b*tch and I'd listen to her sing her grocery list. And that's saying something because I typically despise singing in shows. I think I'll for sure be rewatching this series from time to time for years to come.

Roswell, New Mexico: How's It Going to Be (2022)
Season 4, Episode 13
10/10
I'm just gonna say it.
16 September 2022
It's not necessarily the ending that any of wanted but at least they got to attempt to wrap things up. I thought this last season was much stronger than the season before it. I appreciated that they didn't try to end it in the exact same way that the original show did. I think with how the story telling was going this season that there was a chance for more in this world. I held out a small hope that Netflix would decide to save it like they have other shows in the past. But I don't know what the final nail in the coffin was for this. Maybe the actors were ready to move on the something else and ready to let this go. I thought the show did a great job of tying in current social and political themes without being extremely overbearing. There were a few Hollywood cheap shots here and there but nothing to warrant more than eye roll from me while I kept watching. I loved the actors and the characters. And I would have tuned in for seasons to come. Here's to hoping the reboot machine decides to cycle through this one again somewhere in the future. Though, I know not everyone would agree with that hope. I do look forward to watching these actors in other projects. Maybe even some with other CW TV shows. Thanks for the good times.

And at least this wasn't Riverdale. So even if Roswell: New Mexico was cancelled, it's got that going for it.

L.A.'s Finest (2019–2020)

It was entertaining enough.
1 September 2022
I had seen this show around but had always written it off. But I'd finished binging a few others things and decided to finally check it out. Season two was just meh.. so so. I may have been impressed by it if I hadn't been pretty blown away by season one. Season one was extremely strong. There were so many different plot points. And early on in the season, they managed to really bamboozle me with a particular part in a particular episode. I have watched so much television and movies that I can pretty much call lines before they say them. When my son was younger, he'd usually ask "have you watched this already?" I hadn't. It's pretty hard to show me something that hasn't been done before. It can get pretty predictable. But I wasn't sure about anything here. They take risks. No one is really safe. The plot moves really fast so this is an easy one to binge quickly. I would have watched a third season of this even after only feeling so-so about season two. But this was something to do. It served its purpose. I was pleasantly surprised at the lack of wokeness and social Justice propaganda. They sprinkled a thing here and there and kept those instances super mild. So I really enjoyed that. Fear of this being super woke is part of what kept me from clicking Play for so long. So yea.. if nothing else, I'd suggest at least watching season one. You're probably going to still want to watch season two afterwards though. So just know, at least for this viewer, two didn't pack the same punch as one. But I'm glad I decided to finally give it go.

Sweet Magnolias (2020– )
10/10
I'm shocked at how much I love this.
28 August 2022
The VBS Dino nugget episode made my heart so happy.

Coming to find this show after being a decades old fan of the Vampire Diaries books and then the TV show, I can't help but imagine these two stories taking place at the same time. (A lot of you know already that both shows were filmed in the same time of Covington, GA. So when I see the graveyard or people standing in the town square my goes, Stefan or Damon could have just been there. What is the dark side of "Serenity" and the characters of Sweet Magnolias just don't realize there's actually vampires running around!? I'm insane.

I really am loving and adoring this show though. I'd just binged the first 4 seasons of Virgin River and really enjoyed it until the female lead came across and whiny in the last season. I was beginning to just be over it. So I worried going into this one. SHOCKINGLY, I adore this. With so much stuff being propagated in TV and movies during this time, this series is a complete breath of fresh air. Especially for those that prefer something a little more wholesome or just won't to enjoy some entertainment that doesn't have any agenda with politics. Cannot wait for season 3 and hoping for many more seasons to come!

I've been binging...
23 August 2022
The first four seasons for the first time over the last week so maybe that's a little to blame for my "meh" feelings on this show at this point. I was really enjoying it. I loved Hope being gone. Sue me. But season four Mel seems super whiny and clingy. And I don't know if it helps to hurt to watch this as it comes out over time or binging all that's available at once. But I feel like the storyline is pretty stagnant at this point. Character growth seems to be developing somewhat but at the same time, reaching the end of season 4, I feel like the story should be much further along than it is. I'm a huge champion of book becoming shows instead of movies because you get more time to tell the whole story properly and include smaller details that would end up being cut if this were a movie instead. So it's king of a Catch-22 for me. It also feels like they're just writing around whatever actors are available at the time of filming, which hurts the storytelling, in my opinion. If I were reading the books this show is based on, I feel like I'd be much further into the story by this point because I could have read several of these books in the time I've taken to binge this. With 19 books under this book series banner, we should not still be playing out things that occurred in the first episode and yet... here we are. Char still knocked up.. Nick finally coming to terms with the fact he needs help dealing with his war related PTSD. It's really super repetitive and I'm starting to be over the whole thing if I'm being perfectly honest. In books, instalove and repetitive dialogue, scenes, storyline regurgitation is a HUGE no-no for me. Some of the side stories seem like filler, just a way to pass the time and keep actors that are available still have a connection to what's going on. Boring. My other bug no-no, especially on screen is to have a proud independent woman that has her priorities straight suddenly become a doormat that whines every time something isn't the way she thinks it should be. GaG. Give Mel back her spine, let's have some new babies which is sure to freshen up the drama and breathe life beach into this flatlining story. Or just give everyone their HEA and pull the ripcord on this one. Because there's some miracles that even life support can't perform.

Warning: Spoilers
By the time I'm reviewing this one episode. I randomly decided to rewatch this and it's fine for the most part. But I take issue with Tom deciding to wake up Penny to tell her about her mother passing. Don't do this in real life. To anyone (with some exception) but never to a child. Allow them that peaceful sleep. Because their entire life has shifted once they know. I wouldn't even contact my teenage son at a pool party when our cat died tragically and oddly. That's very small potatoes to losing a parent. I have no idea why they thought this was a good idea. I just don't want anyone to see this and think this is the way to handle an awful situation like this.

16 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
But that was the lamest season finale. And I watch a lot of shows. That felt like a 2020, we're in a "pandemic" and didn't get to properly wrap storylines finale. Zero point to Dim and Juicy besides finally getting Tim and Lucy to acknowledge what they've been hinting at all season. And who lays down their semi automatic weapons to go fight hand to hand when you've got the numbers also? Did they let some first year college script writer who has never watched an episode of The Rookie pen this?? Firing isn't enough for whoever approved this. Blackball them. They aren't worthy.

Warning: Spoilers
Owen's rage storyline hasn't been my favorite and him going to see his dad seemed like it would be so boring. I love this 9-1-1 franchise because every episode feels like a headliner. No waiting 5, 6, 7 episodes for something crazy to happen. This episode didn't have any of the house firefighting storylines in it and it may one of my favorites now. I'm shocked. This one just hit different.

As someone who loved the show Legacies..
6 May 2022
When Riley Voelkel says "she's okay with dangerous" all I'm thinking is, of course she is. She's a Mikaelson witch in the okdest family of vampires and aunt to the only tribrid in existence. Plus now she's an undercover cop and a cop in New Mexico. Yea, no one is going to understand this review unless they watch TheOriginals/Legacies and Roswell: New Mexico.

Besides all of that, I liked that portion of the show. I've enjoyed the new storylines revolving around Dr. Dylan Scott. It's made the show feel fresh again. The uterus part, not a fan. Feels like it's leading to other topics about biology and science. I typically like Jessy Schram as an actress but I haven't cared for her character in this particular show. No fault of the actress. Just the character. Halstead feels like his character has gone as far as he can and I'm ready to see something else.

I didn't think it could get worse.
28 March 2022
That was my first mistake. The second mistake occurred because of the first, I still tuned in after those last few convoluted episodes with that false hope of improvement. I was down with the dark side of the Archie comics. Those first couple of seasons were really good. Loved the Jason Blossom plot and Gargoyle storyline. Other than that, this show is a hot mess. I get that these actors found a lot of fame from this show and all were fan favorites for their own set of viewers. It's like that meant they all needed their own storylines and now it's just trying to do too much. Pretty much the last thing that needed to happen was to add paranormal aspects to the mix. I'm officially calling it. After all these years/seasons, I'll take the good memories and move on to something else. This runaway train has zero hope, it's already off the rails. Which could possibly the next storyline for Riverdale. With any hope left, that train crashes into Riverdale and puts its citizens and their viewers out of our collective misery.

WOW wow WOW!!
25 February 2022
What an incredible episode. Even though viewers already had the information, the way that all just culminated was incredible. I know it's a medical drama and this episode wasn't really dedicated to a current trauma in the hospital. Instead it focused on the fact that doctors aren't just doctors. They have more going on than what goes down in a hospital day to day. And they handle this topic with such respect while highlights a major issue. And then the storyline involving the nurse shortage (even though in real life I fell like that's various hospital's own fault.) It gave us a look how under appreciated/taken for granted these nurses are but also how extremely vital they are. They're the true backbone of any hospital or care facility. They deal with it all and are treated as if they're the "help." A hospital would 100% fall apart if not for their willingness to help others and for a fraction of the the respect or compensation they deserve. This was a very well written episode and these actors brought it to life perfectly. There's a reason I've been a loyal viewer of this show.

Was the acting awful?
9 February 2022
100% it was. Awful doesn't even really begin to cover it if I'm being perfectly honest. I'd been wanting to watch this one for a couple of years now. I finally clicked on it to start to just kill a few minutes of time and found that I was invested and actually didn't want to turn it off. I needs to see how this plays out. I thought it was an interesting story. Though I did figure how it would likely end. Still, enjoyment was achieved here. If you like horror or slasher films and don't mind subpar acting and you're okay with a lot of events taking place pretty much in the shadows then give this one a go.

The Originals: What, Will, I, Have, Left (2018)
Season 5, Episode 6
10/10
This episode is the reason...
6 February 2022
That it has taken me 4 years to finally rewatch The Originals for the first time since watching them as they aired. I've rewatched TVD in it's entirety 8 times already. But never The Originals.

I guess spoilers ahead but for a show that's been out there this long and if you're reading a review this far into the series then it's a safe bet that you're all caught up anyway.

Rewatching it has made me realized that I actually love this series a whole ton more than I remembered or even realized. But the deaths in The Originals just hit harder than the ones in TVD. Maybe because in TVD, there was a chance that it wasn't permanent. A loophole was always an option with a can't miss witch like Bonnie Bennett. But this series... when you're gone, you're gone, given you aren't an Original. The bonds between characters are even stronger because everyone that wasn't blood to the original family, was still brought in and protected as if they were and that loyalty was repaid to the Mikaelson's in return. And while Jackson's devastated, Cami and Davina back to back about ruined me. But then magic loophole and Davina gets a HEA. But this episode. Oh my damn. It's too much. My. Heart.

Emotional. Damage.
