Love in the Air (2024)
Highly Enjoyable
This was a very well done movie and I am glad I watched it. The leading actors were solid in their performances. This was for me, somewhat of a departure from the usual Hallmark movies in that it was breaking new ground as two wounded souls worked together through turmoil and turbulence to prepare and then put on a performance. Being a team of just two pushed boundaries for both of them. It was interesting to watch the struggle each had. The support cast was strong but I think they could have been better introduced and strengthened. As an example, it took me more than a few minutes to figure out who was who, especially the individuals surrounding the lead female actor. There could have been more visible warmth between them not just words.
Dating the Delaneys (2022)
Third time is a charm
I watched this movie for the third time the other night and I was impressed. Maybe I'm slow on the uptake. The main two characters took their time and warmed up to one another, gradually. These two are wounded ducks, so to speak, each having lost a spouse and that makes them cautious about love and commitment. Both have children which makes things even more complicated and their slowness in realizing that they are attracted to one another is natural. The puns the two main characters tossed back and forth was at first mildly awkward for me but when you are dating and comfortable you let down your guard and let the real person out. I do recommend this movie but you need to be patient and let it unfold.
The Cases of Mystery Lane (2023)
Slow start but enjoyable
I'd like to complain that the movie started at 9pm and ran for two hours ... a ton of commercials, most of them horrible, piled on starting at 10:30pm. But it was a good enough movie to keep me from going to bed. The movie got off to a very slow start, and at the half hour mark it became clear what the movie was all about. The wife is bored and plays online poker which she hides from her husband and the husband (an autistic CPA) is hiding going to night classes to become a PI from his wife. At the one hour mark the actual story begins as the two spouses actually discuss their situation. The wife by the way never shares her poker habit. For two highly paid professionals I was surprised that they weren't driving nicer cars. Must be a product placement thing. Also, any law firm that would sign a contract that violates privacy protection laws isn't a very good one. As the movie ends a second prospective client is waiting at the door. I hope they have more stories but they need a faster start and an 7pm or 8pm start would be better. For me.
The Dog Lover's Guide to Dating (2023)
Good could have been great
I was looking forward to seeing this. Rated it an 8 out of 10. This is a low budget movie. Not much in the way of costumes or expensive sets. The premise was funny and the main actors were very good. The female lead was gorgeous, witty and articulate. The male lead was funny, but I had trouble understanding him in a few places because his voice was so low. The secondary actors were just okay. The dogs could have stolen the show but they were just props. I watched it twice just to make sure that I was being fair with my review. I am. One last thought, the lady the main male character is pursuing to date plays an outstanding self oriented, selfish designer who does a great job of being in love with herself.
Love in the Limelight (2022)
A good storyline and solid chemistry
I enjoyed this story and I liked the way the characters revealed themselves. The husband and wife team have starred in several Hallmark movies which I liked and with this movie I was far from disappointed. There was at least one review that lambasted the male lead. My take is that he did a very credible job and his voice was solid too.
One Summer (2021)
One of the worst!
I'll summarize my thoughts by saying that this was cheesy. Characters had no depth, very superficial. I was beyond disappointed. I cannot recommend it and unlike other Hallmark movies, I would not watch it again.
The Reagans (2020)
Good history show but highly biased
Written by, for and with a leftist bent, rarely a kind word for the Reagans. I enjoyed the look back but was quickly turned off by the editing and the pontificating by the liberal talking heads.
Love, Classified (2022)
Interesting but slow moving
Widow leaves grieving young adult children after the untimely death of her husband and their father ... returns to her hometown five years later as a best selling author. Lots of hurt feelings, abandonment, lack of communication. Takes the widow almost two hours (length of the movie) to say she is sorry. I rated it a seven because the acting carried the picture.
A Very Merry Bridesmaid (2021)
Put me to sleep
I found this movie to be slow and uninteresting. While I usually enjoy these holiday season stories, I found this one without imagination and rudderless in plot.
Christmas at Castle Hart (2021)
Boring, slow, bad storyline
Don't beat me up on this. The story wasn't interesting. The script was terrible. The CGI scenes were evident. The actors slept walked through the filming. I actually fell asleep watching this.
My Christmas Family Tree (2021)
Started Strong, Last 20 Minutes It Crashed and Burned
I wanted to like this movie more but the final part so was so poorly written and executed I was truly disappointed. There is an infection point in every Hallmark movie where conflict takes place and that is when this movie fell apart for me.
Follow Me to Daisy Hills (2020)
Waste of time
I think that this is one of the cheapest movies Hallmark has ever made. Two sets, maybe. Music was so loud I couldn't hear the actors speaking. No chemistry between the actors. Lousy script.
Sleepless in Seattle (1993)
One of the best ever
When this movie comes on, I watch it. Great story, great script, great acting. Sort of like a Hallmark Channel but with a lot more steak and sizzle too.
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
A great film
I've lived in LA for more than 30 years but was not here during the period the film covers. I was familiar with the Manson murders so I knew who, when, what, where. For me it was a trip back memory lane, three gig economy actors at different stages of their careers and lives. And it was amazing to see how much LA has stayed the same. I appreciated the interconnected characters and the slow and steady build to an ending that was amazing.
Christmas Scavenger Hunt (2019)
More than predictable and bordering on boring
Let me start with Tom Arnold. He's played one character his entire career. He showed up again in this rom com with no new acting tools. The female lead character looks like she is barely 18; the male lead looks like he is about 35 yet somehow we are to believe they were high school sweethearts. There no chemistry between the two.
Judy (2019)
Loved it!
This was a highly entertaining movie and it brought back memories I had of watching Judy Garland on various television variety shows when I was growing up. I've always been a fan of RZ and I appreciated the fact that she did all the singing for the film. I recommend this movie.
Love in the Sun (2019)
Not very good
I've seen many Hallmark movies and this ranks at the bottom. Why? The story was weak, the characters weaker and the chemistry was absent.
Long Shot (2019)
Very, very funny
This a great movie. Loved the script, the acting, the settings and the vibe with all the actors. I'd not only see it again but plan to recommend it to all my friends. It's just that good.
Disorganized Crime (1989)
Loved it
I was unemployed when this movie first came out and saw it at the dollar movie show. The movie theater was empty and I laughed my head off. If I could ever find out when it was coming on, I'd sit and watch it start to finish. The acting was great, the plot intriguing and the scenery was beautiful.
Up in the Air (2009)
One of the best movies ever made
If you've been in business, this movie is for you.
Green Book (2018)
Brought tears to my eyes
I was very young during this period and had no idea what was happening in the rest of the country. This is just a terrific movie providing the perspective of both black and white during the early 1960s. Well worth the time and money to see. One of the best movies I've seen in a long time. Linda Cardinelli steals the show.
Taking Chance (2009)
A fine yet sad story
War touches us all. This is a hard story to watch but it speaks to how those who gave their lives are treated as they are brought home to their final resting place. Well acted, balanced. There are no John Wayne's but all these young men and women who served deserve our respect.
A Veteran's Christmas (2018)
Worthy of your time
I'm watching this movie for the second time in a week. I'm a married man, what can I say?
This is a highly enjoyable Hallmark movie. There is a lot of chemistry between the two main actors and the supporting cast is solid.
Hall Pass (2011)
One of the funniest movies ever made!
It is not for every taste but if you are a married middle aged man who has an "inner man" who dreams of being single for a week, this movie is for you. It's filled with one liners and I watch it every time it comes on.
A Simple Favor (2018)
Fast paced, thought provoking, funny and smart
I didn't think either of the female leads could carry a movie but I was dead wrong. The suburban mom thing disappeared in record time to reveal a group of interesting characters with even more interesting back stories. Who is really who they appear? The sinister undertones reminded me of Chinatown and LA Confidential with much more laughter. The one liners come fast and furious and you have to listen carefully. Blake Lively should win an Oscar for her performance.
