Homeland (2011)
Great but Frustrating
This is a great show and I anticipate each new episode. What I don't like about it and why I only gave 8 stars is the fact that there does not seem to be some sort of closure at each episode ending. Or worse yet, the bad guys always seems to win. I like the anticipation of the next episode, but the sour taste left from the previous episode where the bad guys always seems to win makes me wonder why I watch this? HA! Guess that is the hook....eventually the good guys would win...right? As for the philosophical question on who is good and who is bad....well that seems obvious. The good guys are the Marines, the CIA trying to prevent the next terrorist attack, the US people. The bad guys being those who want to kill in the name of God. Anything else presented in the show is just subterfuge. The writers of the show try to get you to feel for the extremists and understand their cause as just. At times I can sympathize but how can that be when the extremists kill without consideration who dies? And they justify their killing in the name of God. I thought God loved everybody! Maybe I heard wrong. Hence my frustration with the show constantly portraying the bad guys winning at every turn. But I like it and I give it 8 stars for frustrating me, entertaining me and making me think. Otherwise....sure would like to see the good guys win at least once! LOL
Falling Skies (2011)
Getting Better and I Like it
It started off as a re-run of other syfy shows I have seen, but I gave it a chance. Now I like it and find myself rootin' for the humans and wanting a piece of the skitters myself. Each episode is better than the last (so far) and the story line is progressing (slowly). To me, this show is like FireFly. Started of a little far-fetched, but like FireFly, is becoming a show I anticipated to see the next episode. Sadly, FireFly was canceled just as the story line was progressing and when it developed a good audience. Just hope this show develops in the same manner but not canceled. Curious, however, to how long the conflict will last, will the aliens and humans learn to coexist, will there be a victory and defeat of either side....and will there be some higher philosophical question for all of us to ask ourselves about life, existence, family and humanity. If that develops into the storyline....this will surely be a show with a following like FireFly and one worth watching again.

Hope it gets better
Well....I am up for new shows and thought this was worth watching. Sad to say, it is just too hard to get through. The acting is fine and all.....but for some one who has been to Afghanistan multiple times, I was hoping for something more realistic. The story lines have no depth and the scenes are unrealistic. Example....episode 2 starts with a tarantula walking across the shower wall and the Canadian Doctor shoots it. Later it is referred to as a camel spider. Anyone who has seen a camel spider knows what they look like and they are very aggressive. That was no camel spider. The show is not gritty and not powerful enough to get veterans to watch it and be impressed. Maybe that isn't the focus group intended....but that is the group really passing judgment. Suggestion for the producers/writers and directors.....go for something along the line of The Unit if you can't muster up HBO quality (The Wire/Rome for example). The Unit was exciting to watch, good story line and fine acting....even close to something that is realistic. Too bad it got cut as the story line was just developing. Just hope this show gets better....still watching and jury is still out.
