Alphas (2011–2012)
yawn!!
15 August 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I have been watching this show, based on the other reviews, hoping that my impression of the series was wrong. Sadly, it wasn't. It is predictable, almost laughingly so. The only remotely interesting character is Gary. Aside from that the premise, a group of individuals with unique talents under the control of the government, and a benevolent overseer. In other words, they cannot be left to their own devices otherwise, they could 'implode'. This is the same laughable premise that is always put forward in order for people watching to feel better, so that they can believe the that if there are people like this in the world, different from them, they can be 'monitored' by people that 'know better'. Really, is this truly what is considered leading edge good?!?!?

I'm not much of a writer, but, I could probably come up with much better premise. Sadly it would never get funded because it would not allow for the concept of benevolent overseers.

White Collar (2009–2014)

great show, but by no means original
2 March 2010
Don't get me wrong. I think this is a fantastic show. They have great individuals playing all the different roles. Neal is great! He has a great personality and just the right amount of attitude.

The FBI people are well played. They like working with Neal, but you can see that they don't want to let it show, simply because they are the FBI. This show is probably a bit more real amount how some of these relationships can become murky. Regardless, my original point: The show itself is a remake of a classic 1960's show called "It Takes a Thief" starring Robert Wagner. Still a favorite actor of mine.

Either way though, I still like watching this show.

Criminal Minds (2005– )
true it is not bad, but not great either
26 September 2005
my problem with the show:

predictable writing, predictable twists, and no real interest on my part for any of the characters (as much as a like the principal actors).

i saw episode one. that was enough. too bad, i was hoping for more. but, because the writing is basic and clichéd, it will probably stay.

oh, well.

other shows coming out this year are better, but, i doubt they will stay. killer instinct is not bad - i like johnny mesner, but i don't think they will ever find something for him.

too bad.

Threshold (2005–2006)
waiting for this to happen
26 September 2005
i have been waiting for this. America gets attacked. now a whole genre of shows start popping up about a threat from the outside that looks like us, transforms us into them, but ultimately we have no way of really knowing who they (unless of course we use some sort of technology or we have a government agency saving our a**es). other shows like this are invasion (a clear rip off of the movies "Invasion of the Body Snatchers"). Threshold, is a cool show and I like it, but do not get me wrong, it is nothing new, just taking an amalgam of other shows and concepts and putting them together.

I think it will succeed only because it caters/panders to the proper level of paranoia that is in the US today.

hey, it's better than surface or criminal minds!!

looks like a remake of a german movie
22 September 2003
The movie is Enlightenment Guaranteed (Erleuchtung garantiert). A german movie about two brothers who end up lost in Tokyo, while going to a Buddhist Retreat. It is very funny and a great movie to watch if you have siblings. Since it is a relationship that many of us can relate to.

Lost in Translation look like a not 100% remake of this movie, made for American audiences (the other movie is in German with subtitles). Either way, both movies are great fun, and worth the view.

Enlightenment Guaranteed (Erleuchtung garantiert) is on video/dvd.
