Andor: One Way Out (2022)
What an episode
I don't know what to say i'm speechless. The level of writing, the subtlety of acting from Serkis, Skarsgård and Luna from the small twists that happen i have to say this was a really wonderful episode of television.
Why did I fall in love with Star Wars when i was a kid? Was it because it told me what I had to feel in a tasteless fashion and made throwbacks to things I already knew existed? Was it the flashiness, the coolness of the empty characters that they placed into an even more empty world? No, it was emotional stories that I could connect with in a marvellous setting that transported me into another realm. A realm far away from everyday life where adventures and excitement happened. This is what Andor does, and this episode just showcased what moving pictures are all about.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Great concept with halting execution
The script has a great premise, and I was absolutely loving hearing about not only of the inclusion of the Mighty Thor arc but also bringing Natalia Portman back with new shoes to fill. But her arc didn't feel important enough and comedy and jokes came in the way for the drama that in my opinion is equally as important as action and funny stuff.
As said there was a lot of jokes. To many for my taste. They felt forced and were not well timed. But if you already know or like the style of Waititi it should not come as a surprise.
You will have some laughs, the effects are good and will probably come home feeling like you got entertained. But I think we can ask for more. The pacing, directional choices and character motivations just don't make this into a good film. It's definitely not a movie that I'll be rewatching.
Home (2020)
Great Production with Wrong Focus
The series explores different homes as well as its inhabitants that created them around the world.
Before watching the series I must say that I was fairly excited. I'm a big fan of Netflix Abstract series, and when a high quality docu-series about architecture was about to come out by Apple I had high expectations. But I have to say that I feel as if the series is a bit flat, and hasn't managed to get the same depth as Abstract. In the case of Home, I feel as if the creators has strived to tell a more sensational and sentimental story, instead of showing us these homes, how they were built and how people actually live in them. The music can sometimes also be a bit forced. I feel throughout the series as if the music heavily tried to make us feel something specific at any given moment.
I ended the series with the knowledge of a lot of cool new homes, but nothing about how it is to live in them.
