Amy (2015)
Powerful film showing a great and frail artist
I didn't know much about Amy Winehouse. I feel so sad for her. The two men she looked up to the most in her life totally failed her; her husband and her father. I got choked up at the end when Tony Bennet said (and I paraphrase) " ... life will teach you how to live ... if you live long enough to learn." She was an old person in a young body so super talented. It upsets me when people were making fun of her problems. She was sick and needed help. I think she was close to making it out of her funk. But her addictions killed her in the end. Why didn't someone save her from herself? So many people in her close circle loved her so much.
Eraserhead (1977)
A Nightmare
I saw this movie first when it came out as a theatrical release. I went back to see it several times often bringing friends and family. I would ask them after the film ended if it reminded them at all of some unconscious thoughts they had or repressed event from their own lives. I have rented it on VHS to watch several times. I now own the 2000 DVD. I always thought that this film was as though David Lynch had somehow wired into a person's mind and recorded an actual bizarre and truly weird nightmare. It is beautiful and oddly serene to watch. Enjoy it with a loved one. The images of some dark hidden cracks in Henry's world are truly made real with the wonderful sounds that complete the video sound scape of another Lynch world.
The Machinist (2004)
Christian you totally looked great you sick bastard!
How does someone commit themselves so much to their craft? You could have died. You gave a very intense performance. You creeped me out, but that is good.
On the other hand how can someone like the other reviewer say "by the time the explanation came I was personally no longer interested and didn't think it justified the story anyway." You idiot. Go see the "The Incredibles". I can't give the ending away. But how else can you explain the hallucinations, the flashbacks and finally the explanation for all this bizarre behavior?
This movie was influenced by David Lynch. Very atmospheric.
I will be searching for the sound track and buy it. I was prepared for the subtle 'hints' that lead to the conclusion but it still caught me by surprise. Loved it.
I highly recommend it to those in need of a nightmare fix.
