All My Friends Hate Me (2021)
So very good.
I watched this because it was listed as horror. I could make an argument for it, but that's not the point. First off, the cast is incredible. Consistent across the board, these are all incredibly talented people. Every single one of them.
The cinematography is simple, and so incredibly effective. The small plot feels so much bigger with the well-crafted visuals.
Writing is superb, and the direction just hammers it home, playing up the subtext and subtlety throughout.
I was on the edge of my seat throughout, and just dazzled by the world building and the performances. This is such a special little piece. You can just feel the love of the project from everyone involved.
It's a near perfect film for me. The only problem that I had was with the ending. It actually was effective, but there was so much build that it had me expecting to be blown off my feet, and it didn't quite do that for me.
Thanks to everyone involved for such a well-crafted piece of art. Just fantastic.
Lust for Love (2014)
An absolutely beautiful film.
Wow, what a great film.
I only caught it because I think Caitlin Stasey is brilliant. The dialogue in the beginning was so stylized, that I almost turned it off. Thank goodness I stuck with it!
First off, it was cast perfectly. Fran Kranz is born to play the role, and shines the whole time. Dichen Lachman is brilliantly confident, yet guarded throughout. Literally all of the cast supports each other wonderfully.
Writer/Director Anton King does a masterful job of taking us through a romantic comedy that never is cheap (I rarely laugh out loud, even when I find things funny. I laughed out loud during this movie.), and makes the viewer really think. I found myself really enjoying scenes, but also thumbing through my thoughts and memories to see if there was some measure of wisdom I could gain by watching.
This is just a true gem of a film. I often have this itch for films that will make me think about romance and relationships, while indulging in drinks and provocative situations. This touches on all of it and proves to be uniquely satisfying.
This is the product of talented people who care about what they're making. The budget doesn't have to be huge if the filmmakers have love for their work.
Thanks for the journey. This will be added to my list of favorites in this genre.
3 from Hell (2019)
I didn't want it to end.
I only appreciated House of 1000 Corpses after falling in love with The Devil's Rejects as it filled in and made the characters three dimensional. Both those movies are better than this one, but man, did I enjoy it anyway.
This was going to have to be a different film, resurrecting the characters from the events of TDR, and I wasn't sure I was going to dig it as it began, but as it settled in, it found it's footing.
I can see that there are a lot of poor reviews, and just don't get it. I've been on the other side before, wondering what anyone could see in a film that I didn't. 3 From Hell was just a really great experience for me.
People keep criticizing it as a project that was forced or a cash grab. It didn't feel that way to me. It felt like a genuine journey back into a universe and mythology that was important to all those involved. I can tell a lot of love went into it.
I hope the poor reviews don't mean we won't get to see Sheri Moon Zombie and Bill Moseley reprise these roles again. I've had a blast following them through all three, and would welcome another!
RIP Sid Haig. Captain Spaulding will go down as one of the most iconic horror characters of all time. Would it be blasphemous to suggest a Captain Spaulding prequel???
Gigli (2003)
An Excellent Film... and I mean it!
So, I got pulled into the theatre to see this film against my will. Ask anyone If this is a good movie, they'll say no. Ask them if they have seen it, no again. The thing is, some one important wanted this movie to fail. It has a fun story, plenty of comedy, and some amazing dialouge. This was an exellent film... give it a chance... if you don't like it... I'll take the bad karma.
May be a stretch... but I give it 9/10
Howling III (1987)
Not sure about this one.
I am a huge horror movie fan, and I wanted to get more into the Howling series. I am very accepting of bad horror movies. When they are bad, they usually have a classic redeeming factor about them. This one doesn't have much going for it other than how different it tried to be. Not a great film by any standards, but I certainly don't regret the time I spent watching it. For all you people who love it, I can understand where you're coming from... sorry I'm not with you.
