Hollywood Houselift with Jeff Lewis (2022)
Architectural Digest!
Before saying anything else, I'm sending wishes for a complete recovery for Andrew.
It's a pleasure to see how Jeff has evolved into a mature, accomplished, respected designer. I'd hire him if he'd agree to work in Colorado.
His work is absolutely beautiful. He has the ability to see the best potential for every project large or small. The Anthony Edwards project is something he and Andrew should be extremely proud of, Architectual Digest! Every detail in that project is perfection.
I look forward to seeing what he does next.
His relationships with his team are honest and sincere. I miss Zoila and Jennie, but people move on.
Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy (2021)
Beautiful Scenery
I feel like I'm on vacation watching this series. I wish it focused more on the art and architecture than on the food that I personally can't eat. Celiac disease sucks...
I don't take it personally. I've given it a solid 10 rating.
Stanley Tucci, has done a great job traveling all over Italy and sharing the experiences with us. I loved getting to meet his wife and parents.
There are so many wonderful people who join him on his food adventures. The chefs are so proud of their creations and Stanley seems to always be ready to devour them. ( the creations, not the chefs). Stanley's enthusiasm is contagious. I'm smiling my way through Italy.
The scenery is magnificent. The camera work and editing are exceptional. This is an absolute pleasure to watch. Thank you Mr Tucci.
Shantaram (2022)
Waited a Long Time
I waited a long time for this. First the movie was never made. Now AppleTV has decided to cancel after the first season.
The season wasn't the best, but still managed to give the flavor of the book. Unfortunately a book written as well as Shantaram could probably never be depicted on screen with the depth of character and emotion as the book. India came alive along with the characters. The story is complex, overlaps, tangles and surprises again and again. It could have lasted for 10 seasons.
I encourage anyone who hasn't read the book to do so. It's a story of redemption and how a life can be transformed. It is actually based on the author, Gregory David Roberts' life.
There is also a sequel, The Mountain Shadow. I read them both twice.
Becoming Elizabeth (2022)
Disappointed
I found this disappointing. The actress who plays Elizabeth is too old for the part. She's supposed to be 14-16. The actress is in her late 20's, it's obvious.
I was conscious of her, the weird music and the f word thrown into the dialogue where it was superfluous and distracting. It was hard to get lost in the story and the characters. Everyone was acting. I kept watching. Why?
It was definitely not the quality of Outlander.
The Cazalets (2001)
Left Me Wanting More
I really enjoyed this beautifully filmed series. The acting was top notch, but I still felt something was missing. I think it's because I wanted more in depth character development and background. I looked for the books and now realize that his could have been a much longer more in depth depiction. It's still worth watching, but I'm looking forward to reading the 5 books it was based on.
WeCrashed (2022)
I Couldn't Finish
Jared Leto, I couldn't stop thinking about his accolades as an actor and wondering why.
Ann Hathaway, Blah, boring.
There was no depth to the characters just acting.
Another story about how the Emperor Wore No Clothes, but people believe him and he's stealing from them, GREED WINS. Until it doesn't.
The Chair (2021)
A Delight
Loved this entertaining series. No pretensions, just characters with character. Light in this dark time.
Labyrinth (2012)
Waste of Film
What a waste of time. It's a waste of my time to try to explain why.
Mrs Palfrey at the Claremont (2005)
A Pleasant Escape
I've watched this movie twice. I will probably watch it again someday.
It is a lovely reminder of how people come into your life and become family.
Our own relatives may not be the people we choose to be with.
We choose who we want to have loving relationships with.
Joan Plowright is delightful. Rupert Friend is delicious.
Strangers (2018)
White Dragon
I am amazed that this hasn't gotten rave reviews, but I'm one of those people who loves a good story. I will read a 900 page novel with good character development and long involved story lines. This series had that and more. It revealed a little more about each character in every episode. It wasn't predictable, it wasn't boring. It was beautifully filmed, well written, well acted and well edited. Hong Kong was gritty, dirty and like New York in its cultural magnificence. I will remember this story.
Made in Heaven (2019)
Need Season 2,3,4,5,...
Every episode makes you want to know more about the characters.
It is well written, well acted, beautifully filmed and edited.
It has all of the colors of India's complexity.
I really hope the series is extended to several more seasons, please.
